You sir are a star. I had just done my throttle bodies and the damn thing wouldn't start. I pulled it apart again but when I tried it again I turned the ignition on and off couple of times to build fuel pressure and it started.That convinced me it was the pump. I searched for a KZbin clip to see how to do that job and found this video. On inspecting the bike. guess what, Bingo.

Thanks Andy! After I swapped an engine, throttle bodies and the muffler on FZ1of mine I've noticed similar problem: bike is idling fine, rides ok but even slightest attempt of revving it without engaging clutch results in engine cuts off. First, I thought it might be due to disconnected EX-up valve cables (eliminator is on the way) but it seemed unlikely. I went on forums and ppl were talking about vacuum leak, fuel valves problem and so on. So I was checking and checking without success. That fuel line is sleeved so it is not showing a kink, especially stretched when a tank is up, nothing obvious then. If is just that problem it will save me a lot of stress and probably some coin as well.. About to check and change that fuel line today... P.S Waiting for throttle balancing video. I will attempt to do it as well :) (edit)...or maybe not. just checked. That e-sync tool is bloody expensive...

That was it! Changed fuel line to rubber one (like on vid) and it has solved the problem. Still need nice ride to test outcome but for now I can say - I owe you a beer. A year or two ago I did much the same thing, store sold me wrong kind of hose. After about ten miles my back tire keep squirming trying to throw me off and almost succeeded. Pulled over and found the hose had split and dumped Gasoline (almost a whole tank) over the hot engine and onto the road which apparently is amazing slick for motorcycle tires. Had to trailer it home and the bike fell over on the trailer, dinged the tank and broke part of the fairing. Moral of this story: Make sure it's safe for Gas/Petrol when you buy it.

Nice job. Important to note to get your fuel line from a reputable supplier. There is a lot of hose on places like ebay that is stamped with the right standards, but no manufacturers name. Typically it's cheap Chinese hose. It ages badly from the inside out due to the Ethanol in todays fuel. The internal layer you saw could be a PTFE or similar lining that is resistant to ethanol. The harder plastic hose you removed I'm sure was a cost saving measure, but it does seem to be pretty resistant to Ethanol vs a rubber hose. I've had rubber hose fail alarmingly, but never the plastic stuff...but it does kink.

Very good point. I would have only bought this from a proper shop that I trust. I even read a few reviews and made sure that the specs can deal with E10 fuel.

Now I can open the throtrle fast without my bike dying or hesitating it idles fine and I can get to redline now but now whenever I'm in gear its like it doesn't get enough fuel. It works sometimes if i don't open the throttle too much. I bought a fuel injection line from the autoshop and connected the quick release up to it.

Got the same thing on my old suzuki vstrom 650. That shitty hard fuel hose didn't bend in my case but crack the fuel pump connector. It was hairy thin crack and didn't leak in normal but onli in really hot environments. For a few hot day's in summer it will start to leak. It drives me crazy for 2 years until one day i was lucky enough to catch leaking in perfect time. And all that for 0.2$ price of decent hose and clamps. I will never understand how big names like yamaha and suzuki can afford to them to do such a big mistakes

From the pump to the injectors is a low pressure section so shouldn’t be a problem. Theoretically, due to the mass flow hypothesis, the pipe could be as long as you want and it would still work.

Clips look a bit weedy for a pressurised fuel hose mate. They look like breather hose clips. Use jubilee clips.
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean. I don’t think that the pressure is all that high between the pump and the fuel rail. The clips aren’t the toughest, but just providing a bit of resistance against the ribs of the fitting is enough to give me some reassurance! The hose is PROPER tight on there. Also there was no clip at all on the original, despite it being almost completely inflexible!

They weren’t a lot out, probably less than 10%. But as soon as they were all synced, the tone of the engine seemed to change and she suddenly started to hum! You can of course set up your gauges without going anywhere near the adjusters (they’re a PROPER pain in the arse to get to anyway!). That way you can see how far out they are before you change anything.

My original line was stuck so I ended destroying the connectors to get the line off my bike just to find out the line was kinked. About $50 USD later and my FZ1, which was down for 6 months, came back to life. Of course happening after the generator grenaded which lead me to believe it was the charging system the whole time... be aware, louis and polo like to sell DIN 73379 / 97 A =Nitrilkautschuk hoses. not resistant to modern fuel! Bio Fuel Hose According To DIN 73379 TYPE 3 E(SAE J30 R9 ). also called "viton tube" they kost 20€/m.important is "3E" these hoses are 3layer and not so elastic like the always offerd old DIN 73379 / 97 A . to attach them you need the right size of, in german called"Spannbackenschellen". bad fuel hoses are almost as dangerous as bad brake hoses good luck
@steve06806575 жыл бұрын
Surely the line was rigid hard plastic to hold pressure better? A softer line like the one you've fitted will expand under pressure and reduce power. It's why braided brake lines are better than rubber.
@AndyManCam5 жыл бұрын
That’s why a braided rubber hose is the best of both worlds! Plus the real pressure comes after the fuel rail. As long as the injectors are getting all the fuel they want, there’ll be no performance hit.

When you say fuel keeps leaking out, is it flowing, or just a couple of drops? There’s always a little bit left in the pipe, but as long as it’s not constantly running out, shouldn’t be a problem. If it is running out, then something is not right with the pump!
