One of the best defenders in the world at his position. As a pairing, I think VVD - Ibou and Gabriel - Saliba are at a similar level, they really compliment themselves and are solid units, but individually Virgil is still the best in the world imo, so he is in front of Saliba and if I would have to pick between Konate and Gabriel, individually Ibou is better imo. Granted, I am biased as a Liverpool fan, but the way Arsenal plays, their whole structure and getting results is based on not conceding goals. Most games they play with 2 or 3 midfielders that are or have been DM at some points in their career - Rice, Partey, Merino. As well as up to 4 center backs in the backline (2 of them playing as fullbacks). Gabriel and Saliba are amazing, they are one of the best and will be in every team, but Arsenal's system makes them even better is what I'm saying. Liverpool don't even have recognised DM in their team and they have proper fullbacks, and their defense isn't worse than Arsenal's, so I think it's mainly due to Konate and Virgil. Yes, Gravenberch and Alexis are helping and Trent/Robbo are still good defenders, but Virgil and Konate individually are just creme de la creme.

He's learning from Van Dijk how to be an imposing presence on the pitch. His size and speed puts a lot of players off and since he has all the tools that Van Dijk has, he's starting to match him on the pitch. The end result is Liverpool doing very well this season. Could be the key in our title challenge.

Completely disagree. He has always been an imposing presence right back from his Leipzig days. His sheer size, power and front footed mindset have all been there before he joined Liverpool. Not everything is because of Van Dijk you know. Ibou carried Virgil for 2 years after the leg break. Gomez carried Virgil multiple times during the title winning season 19/20
