Breathtaking! At ANY age this is a brilliant, sensitive, loving and powerful rendering of an exquisitely beautiful aria. This young lady gives me hope for the future of classical vocal music. Plus, she is a doll! I have a new live favorite voice.......sadly, my favorite of all time is no longer with us: Maria Callas. My prayers go with this young lady for sake-keeping and WISE and HONEST management.

This is the problem with competitions. You have to adhere to requirements. She could not show up to a competition with only baroque arias in 4 different languages. She sounds adorable here, but i would agree that her voice was not ready to sing that role on stage. She had, however, to sing these arias to win the competitions. She has wisely put away this repertoire the second she won and sticks to Baroque which suits her voice better. She may yet come back to this rep at some later stage. I am a huge fan!

You can hear how she has improved herself, ie, she sounded here practiced, reflecting the tutelage of her instructors to enhance the full throaty sound all opera singers e3med emcouraged to develop. But now her voice has resolved I to a much more pure and pearcing quality - the beat singer in the world, imho.

arlettesopr thanks a lot, Julia had a few teachers such like Dennis O'Neill and Yvonne Kenny. She followed masterclasses from Elena Obrazstova, Alberto Zedda, Richard Bonynge and Thomas Quasthoff.

This was never meant for a 17 year old. A pretty voice, but she wasn't ready for this at all. Didn't we all make mistakes at 17 that would make us wince today? :) Her place is definitely in baroque, heroic Italian coloratura. That really is where she shines. A clean, pretty voice that articulates well, but was never meant for "meat" (not yet anyway).

Craig Bloomfield Thanks for your reaction. This was during a competition in Saint Petersburg. She had to sing a repertoire, which the competition made. There was also baroque music in it, Julia is still singing a lot baroque music. Her voice is changed after this video of course. Please take a look at other videos. Elim van Delft - I'm familiar with her voice as I am a fan and already was when I made that comment. That's how I stumbled upon the video. I fully appreciate the constraints of competition, but my reaction remains unchanged: it was unwise artistically and pedagogically. Fortunately, she has blossomed into the lovely baroque soprano she is today. Many other young talents have been less fortunate due to being poorly managed and guided. People must sing age-appropriate repertoire to go the distance - always. Thanks for taking the time to respond. I really appreciate the background information. 😊

she is a fabolously talented singer. but in believe singers these days enter the stage much too young. three generations back singers spent much longer time for studies and perfecting their technique. and i agree with the other people who see her as a fabolous mezzo instead as a soprano.

Beautiful voice of truly Italian colour but please notice many of her high notes are a la Callas in 1960s-with wide,staying and unpleasant vibrato.She is too young to sing such repertoire only!I hope and wish Julia more patience and find such teacher who made her top register suitable to her not so big voice. Anyway,hope of the future,indeed!
