Here’s what a lot of young artists don’t know when they coming into the music business, getting ready to sign their first contract. #1 Hire an ENTERTAINMENT lawyer to look over the contract with you while you are in that label meeting, not a regular lawyer, nor the lawyer that works for the record label. #2 Have the Entertainment lawyer explain any words or phrases that don’t sound familiar, or transparent. For example, the word “perpetuity” which means “the property of lasting forever” is a deadly word that record execs put in their contracts to KEEP an artists royalties, masters, and publishing. #3 understand what points mean, and what percentages (splits) the label is offering for your publishing, royalties, and masters.

By him saying he got his publishing and he still gets paid, that means everybody's contract was different. 🤷🏾♂️ Some Diddy did right by, and some he did dirty.
