8 January 1735 "Ariodante" was performed in Haymarket Theatre in London. Carestini sang the title role and was rewarded with a succession of glorious arias. The vocal battle between Carestine and Farinelli went sky-high from that day on.

Depuis quelques années, les opéras de Haendel, portés par la dynamique des interprétations historiquement informées ont pris une place importante dans le répertoire des ensembles baroques. Ils sont aussi très présents au disque. Pour la première fois, Philippe Jaroussky dédie un disque entier à Haendel, lui apportant son art le plus accompli, fruit d’une longue expérience scénique. Haendel a composé trente-cinq opéras pour la scène londonienne entre 1711 et 1741. Et même si Haendel est aujourd’hui assez populaire, peu d’œuvres , comparativement à sa production, sont régulièrement montées. Giulio Cesare, Alcina, Ariodante, Agrippina, Serse, Rodelinda, Rinaldo, Partenope, Orlando, et Tamerlano sont données assez régulièrement. A par un air extrait de Rodelina, le nouvel enregistrement de Philippe Jaroussky se concentre surtout sur des opéras que nous avons peu de chance d’entendre sur scène ou en concert :Amadigi di Gaula; Arianna in Creta; Flavio, re di Longobardi; Giustino; Imeneo; Radamisto, Riccardo primo, re d'Inghilterra; Siroe, re di Persiaand Tolomeo, re di Egitto. Bon nombre de ces opéras furent écrits pour le célèbre castrat Senesino, qui créa beaucoup de premiers rôles pour Haendel. Philippe Jaroussky est ici accompagné par son Ensemble Artaserse, créé en 2002. Thank you for your explanation of the context of this CD. It's always most helpful to have these historical place markers to understand the music. But my heart was broken when you didn’t include Theodora in the last of Handel's significant operas. I suppose people could do this all day but, to me, Theodora is a knockout opera

Bellissima voce, complimenti! Ero china sul mio lavoro, un quadro "La canoa" che cucio per terra e ti ascoltavo. Mi sono alzata incuriosita pensando a un nuovo soprano . Hai una voce femminile, ma potente, non canti di gola, sei leggiadro da grande virtuoso!
