This is so heartbreaking because as someone who stanned Soyeon before she even debut, the amount of hate she got because of how she looked like was so depressing. People were saying that she would not debut because she was ugly and listening to this song reminded me of those times when she said she knew she was ugly. I love how she was able to overcome all of those hate and is still able to achieve her dreams. SOYEON IS THE TYPE OF IDOL THAT DESERVES TO BE IDOLIZED BY THE YOUNGER AUDIENCE.

"There is no one like I-DLE" you're right, there really isn't. These girls hold a special place in my heart. Allergy has been so bittersweet for me seeing these lyrics and remembering how when Soyeon was a teen, the Korean general public absolutely tore her confidence down to the ground calling her too ugly to be an idol. I feel like there is no one more suited to talk of this subject than this group and I appreciate them so so much for breaking barriers in this industry with every concept they create and every album they produce.

The song is so sincere……FYI Soyeon joined Producer101, and she showed tons of talents but was judged being UGLY. The program has a clip of Soyeon got interviewed, where she said “if am prettier, will ppl love me? I hate the face that I see in the mirror” And when she joined “Unpretty rapper” she wrote a song “laugh” saying she’s hard-working enough, she’s pretty when she smiles. (But somehow that happy song makes me tear up every time)

The irony of Miyeon singing the line "Why ain't I pretty?". That girl could hang upside down from a tree, dressed in an old potato sack and covered in dirt and she still would be unreasonably beautiful...

True, but also almost everyone who thinks they’re ugly and hates their looks are actually beautiful. You might not be the standard of beauty, or not conventionally beautiful, but you are still beautiful in your own way. I know thats very corny to say, but it’s true. Very few people are actually ugly, and even they have features and qualities that are desirable and attractive. Everyone wants what someone else has. Sadly it’s just the human condition. You can be a 100/10 and still think you’re hideous 😫

Weel I think that's the whole point of the song. Soyeon wants to be like Shuhua Yuqi and Miyeon, while Miyeon wants to be like Minnie. Even the most beautiful people become insecure of another person because of societal standards.

Tbh I think this misses the entire point. Even if you’re attractive to other people you can still feel ugly despite being complimented all the time. In this video they’re all jealous of each other and wanting to be each other but feeling self hatred towards themself. It’s a cycle like nobody is ever satisfied with how they look

as a 17year old I relate to all of the lyrics so much its honestly crazy they released this rn while im probably at my lowest. The lyrics in the verses where its talking about the world moving on without them, and other teens being mature cus like I feel so behind in my teenage years bcus of covid yet i see kids my age like acting like highschoolers (online but its most offline like irl thats bothering me bcus i know how fake things on social media can be) when i still feel like I just finished 8th grade (when covid started for me and now im ending junior year) I feel so behind in my years like as if my time has stopped but everyone else around me it seems like was able to keep moving. plus ive always been really insecure and lately its been worse i've just felt very alone and depressed and everything so just overall this song's lyrics hit. I wonder if like the title track might start off where this mv ended like with her waking up out of surgery a new person but maybe not either way im excited with the album title being "I feel" it makes sense now (i dont like watching teasers cus they give too much away so i had no idea how this album would be)

Hii, I wish you the best! It's not funny right now but keep on going it will soon be alright! Those lyrics hits home for me as well, for my middle school me who was bullied during all years there. I wished I was somebody else, you know. I hated myself sm back then. I get what you mean with covid. I felt the same. It eventually gets better, tho you might think it's not possible. I promise you. You are strong to cope with such awful events and depression. This is hard. But you got it, keep going friend! It takes time, but it's alright. I think at the end she won't have any physical surgery, but maybe she will went into a dream where she realizes her worth. And she was always a queen. And once she will wake up, she will have a new mindset. She will truly FEEL (hence I FEEL album) like the queen she is.

I'm "older" here as a kpop fan and so I don't really worry about not looking like all these beautiful women we see all the time but I know there must be sooo many young women and teens that look up to them and think all these things portrayed on the video and it makes me sad, if I was a teen I would be so affected by it because I was very very insecure at that age, now as an adult of course I understand that these idols have a ton of resources to be able look a certain way, they have professionals behind , their companies literally invest money to make them look gorgeous, etc etc, I mean they still struggle with self image issues as you mentioned but not everybody sees that and end up asking themselves why don't I look like them. The pressure is a lot and it affects everybody the idols and the fans, G-idle talking about this mostly from the industry and the country they come from is very brave and I hope that message really helps some

I'm a Melody (fandom of btob who is idle's cube family) . I really like cube idols. Btob got a loooooooot of hate in their early days too for not looking like your typical kpop idol too. But Soyeon, Minhyuk, Hyunsik all focused on their main basis, music, and continued to make well grounded, relatable lyrics with good melodies. Now gidle is one of the biggest 4th gen groups queening all concepts and BTOB are the most, if not, one of the most vocally great male kpop groups. I hope coming forth, both he groups get more love for what they really want to put out there, which is music and message. The only thing I don't like ABT cube groups is that they are in cube, one of the worst companies out there

Plastic surgery etc.. NO. Everyone is beautiful in their own way, perfect, people have to love themselves more, also shouldn't get distracteded by those people with a lot of surgery to look better, but then the health won't keep up with it, I mean we all kinda struggle with those kind of things, sometimes I've issues like "ah I wish I could look like her" but then on the next day's, I was like she got everything made, body, face everything is fake natural beauty says more and we should love ourselves more, value ourselves way more. So right about "There is no one like I-dle". I-dle is just ... I-dle. In my personal opinion, the best K-pop group nowadays (no hate please). If Minnie looked at me like she did that dude, I'd ignore the age gap, learn Thai and Korean and move wherever she wanted me to move. Ok, now back to reality. I-dle reminds me of how 2ne1 did some songs, like "Ugly", subtle pointing out all the bad things netizens/fans/haters do. At that time the Social Media wasn't as widespread as it is now. When I was 5, we had no Social Media, no Internet, no PC's, no Mobile phones, not even VCR's, CD's or DvD's, but a gigantic tube TV, rotary phone, magnetic tape or vinyl and a basic calculator. If you're lucky, you can catch a good Radio station signal or have MTV channel. If you do, you're a popular kiddo but also being B***ied. One cannot win, just adapt or don't give an F.

i really appreciate you talking about the male side of the effects of social media and the expectation of (especially physical) perfection. having struggled with an eating disorder as a woman i know just how much men with eating disorders are not talked about. women have had it especially hard with this idea of physical beauty because for centuries that's all women have been reduced to, but the ignorance of men's own issues is a huge issue as well. i appreciate how sincere you are and open about your emotions and feelings because dismantling that systemic toxic masculinity is the first step to reducing the expectation of perfection in everyone.

For some reason when I heard this song princess Diana also came to my mind. Like Marilyn Monroe she was one of the most famous women in the 20th century and seemed like she had a glamorous fairytale life, the princess loved by all. If you watch her interviews and read her memoirs however you will see that like Monroe, her life is not a happy life either. There are so many famous people like Diana and Marilyn who looked like they had it all but met tragic ends. Point is you never know what happens when the cameras are off and the doors are closed, what you saw on social media and television is only a snapshot, a freeze frame of that persons life. Don’t ever compare your 24/7 with someone else’s snapshot.

In general I agree with what you said. But I don't think girls/women have it harder when it comes to beauty standards bc we talk about it. Whereas with boys/men, they're always invalidated and it isn't even recognized how hard it is for them. (saying this as a trans man btw) Not saying that one gender has it harder than the other (since that's also very simplifying the concept of gender/sex) but women at least can talk about it in most spaces/aren't shot down as quickly as men from my experience. And about teens being so much more mature today: YES. but I'd still argue that "mature" isn't really the right word here. They act like adults and want to grow up, but their maturity and "street smartness" is still lacking and that makes them very child-like.
