I like the design and pacing. This would be reasonably easy to adapt to different abilities and tool availability and allow someone to fine-tune their final assembly to any level of refinement they so desired.
As far as I'm aware, you're the only person to utilise a desktop fan motor for any power tool project. This will potentially recycle hundreds of fans and keep them out of landfill. CONGRATULATIONS !
Very nice project sending support from South Africa 🇿🇦

Good design and build a coolthing about it is almost every shop has a use for a disc / beltsander combonation ! I never realized that a fan had that type of a gear box inside of it but it makes perfect sense considering the two movements a oscillating fan makes

Being as both sanders do the same thing and a disk sander is far the better. You could have saved yourself a lot of time and just made a disk sander. But thanks for the tutorial.

Older fans had fairly high wattage motors, because their fan blades were made out of thick metal sheets. I remember when I was a kid we had 3 fans in our house that completely made out of metal, they were very heavy and noisy. They had huge motors. But nowadays, almost every fan motors are rated around 50 Watts, specially table fans. Those motors are useless for these kind of products.

Неплохой Мастер, для неточной работы довольно хороший результат. И, всё же, мотор слабый. Если уж делать такой станок для шлифовки, то пусть он не только для маленьких деталей. Молодец! Лайк, конечно!

The motor would overheat. It's a CLOSED BOX. No ventilation. Wood is a good heat insulator, not a conductor, so heat is TRAPPED within the box. If it overheats, it would most likely burn.

Great unit. Well done! You should also consider protecting it more though by putting a large knot in the cord just inside of the hole it goes through the case fo it so that nobody can pull hard on the wiring and have wires pull out / short out / break off in the unit. Strain relief is a mandatory safety thing for any sold electrical product on the market that protects the user and the device fom unreasonable strain applied to the cord thus preventing breakage of th wires or attached components, lessening the chance for a user to be electrocuted by a frayed cord and also reduces electrical fire potential of pulley's wires shorting out inside or outside of the unit.

I think it's great how you repurposed the fan motor into a sanding machine but it would have to be only for very light ,read hobby type work as the motors in these fans aren't that powerful . I'm looking at doing the exact same thing with an old air compressor motor , it's got a ton of power and perfect for this application I'd say

The only problem is that those types of motors can't take much load and require the propeller of the fan to keep the motor cool, otherwise the motor will burn out. You just doomed the motor, you put it in a wooden box... with no breathing wholes :-\. Don't get me wrong, the whole idea and the project itself is actually great, if you would've used a different motor ;).
