My humble attempt to make a G&L L-2000 sound like a Precision, Jazz Bass and StingRay.
In my opinion; G&L sounds a little muddy on P mode, a little nasal on J mode and lacks low end on StingRay mode. It imitates the Jaco mode very good though.
What do you think?
No EQ added, just a little compression.

@@SO-bp2uc I absolutely love it. I did go from a five to a four string, which has taken some adjusting. I knew it would, and I wanted to go back to four but I do still miss some of the lows I could get with my five. That being said, I don't look back. I love the L2000 and adjusted fine to the four strings. Edit: Don't forget, this is technically one of Leo Fender's finest basses.

@@traestuart384 that’s awesome! They do make 5 string models, but I probably not for the tribute models. I’ve had a ton of G&L guitars, my 2000 arrives soon!

Thanks for the comparo. I have an L-2500 and this provided guidance on how to use the controls to shape the tone. Getting the exact tone of the P, J and MM is impossible without the same electronics. Thanks for showing the unique voice and versatility of the G&L.

True, getting the exact is not possible. However; you can occupy the same frequency area, which is also good!

Brilliant. I’ve got all three albeit my “Jazz” is a Mike Lull M5. My old 74 Fender P Bass is as good as the day I bought it new - just a bit too heavy for an old timer these days. My G&L is a Tribute series and for the money, it’s incredible. Does a really great P-Bass tone and that’s the way I have it most of the time.

In today's market, it's remarkable how affordable instruments can deliver outstanding sound and performance. I'm thrilled that your G&L meets those expectations for you! Personally, I've had a fantastic experience with an affordable Sire P5. I've upgraded its electronics, and it has become my dependable road companion since.

Fantastic comparison. I was at furst scratching ny head why the "Jazz bass mode" would gave the pickups in parralel, then i remembered the L2000 doesn't have the 3-way switch with singke coul option like the L1000
@DrKeremKoseoglu

There is a well known G&L mod called "K-Mod", which changes the switch to Series - Parallel - Single modes . You may look into it if you want to approximate J tones.

I like the sound of G&L as well, but the switches are a big turn-off for me, I like the option to blend pickups. G&L M-2500 had that option + a simpler preamp, but sadly, it's discontinued. I have recently received my custom built bass, which has sound characteristics of G&L - used Sadowsky electronics and meticulously selected woods. I intend to post a demo video of that bass, keep an eye out!

The Music Man bass is actually an Old Smoothie, not a Stingray. The pickup has 10 pole pieces not 8. The pole pieces are between the strings, not under. It’s less growly than a standard Stingray

I tried Stingray with a band and couldn’t hear myself. Its a nice bass, but doesn’t cut through. G&L cuts easily. I haven’t tried Fender. I mostly cut treble off. Sometimes completely, but it depends on the song. I keep mid and low flat. Sometimes boost bass just a little, not too much. Depending on a venue. At rehearsal bass is flat. Amp is also flat.

@@DrKeremKoseoglu I'm not a pick player but when I realized how thunderous the p bass sounds like when played with the pick, I started exploring pick playing more. To me, nothing sounds anything like a picked p bass. The rumble is so phat yet it cuts through everything like a hot knife slicing through butter.

@@farisfuad1150 I agree completely. After years of playing other basses, I came back to the P-Bass on my humble maturity. Darkglass overdrive pedals work very well with a picked P-Bass too; mind you 😊 B7K for scooped aggression (more pick sound) or Vintage Microtubes for tube-ish mids (warmer).

I'm sooo confused. lol. I have a G&L also, but your switch set-up looks different from mine. It's almost like yours are all upside down. at 0:24 you say it's neck pickup, series and passive. But if I set my switches to the same positions as your (down, down, up) I would get bridge pickup, parallel and active with treble boost. Weird.

The switches might have been installed upside down or sideways on some instruments. Not a big surprise on budget series.
