The G&L L-2000. This bass combines 2 powerful G&L MFD Humbuckers and G&L's versatile preamp.
In this video I demo numerous sound capabilities this bass has to offer.
I recorded the sound examples through an A-Designs KGB-1tf DI/Preamp into my Agogee Duet and directly to Logic Audio. I wanted to showcase this great bass and show off some of its tones.
This bass has an alder body, maple neck with rosewood fretboard, G&L MFD pickups and preamp.
The fit and finish of this and all USA G&L basses is always impeccable.

I have a well worn L-2000 bass, and it STILL sounds GREAT. I LOVE it. Definately worth the money.

I own a 2500 G&L and I think it is THE best sounding Bass I have ever played. 2 Other Bassists that I know, have played it, and they went out and bought one as well. My eyes bugged out of my skull when I plugged it in. The sound is FAT and THICK. I played a $5 thousand dollar Lakeland once, and I`d take two G&Ls over that any day of the week.

Thank you so much for posting this video! I just bought a 1996 USA G&L L-2000 from a very good friend of mine. I love it, but didn't know what all the knobs and switches did. Thank you for walking me through it, brother :) Robert

Nice to see what all the switching does, you can hear it sounds good with decent headphones even though the tones don't seem to vary a great deal between all settings.

I've experimented with this bass a good deal and there are a lot of good sounds in it. My personal favorite and go to is: passive, parallel, both pickups, bass at about 80%, treble 90-100%, and the most important part, volume at about 70%. No matter where everything else is set I have found this bass typically sounds best with the volume backed off a bit. Gives it some air to breath, avoids overloading preamps, and for lack of a better term seems to just have a richer sound. Besides the L2000 every bass I've ever played sounds best with the volume wide open. L2000 is just a beast that needs a little taming

How do you use the bass and treble controls in passive mode?
@Thebasshang
@Thebasshang 7 жыл бұрын
+Billierollyjean the bass and treble controls are still cut only so I usually have them turned up and adjust from there, I usually only need to cut the treble a little.

@@Thebasshang agreed, I usually keep the bass all the way up and cut the treble if I want to emulate a more classic tone.

The G&L MFD pickups are *HOT*. I played on the same amp after someone who was playing a Pedulla with Bartolini pickups (which are known to be pretty high output pickups) and when I plugged in my L2500 using the same settings, the G&L's pickups were so hot I had to dial back the amp's gain to keep it from getting fuzzy/distorted.

Very interesting but I'm not hearing much differences between most settings. I have a JB model. The choices are fewer but the pickups make much different sounds from each other. I am no longer any fan of active electronics and for this bass I don't even think they're needed. G&L came out with a new passive single pick-up model, the number escapes me, but the demo shows it's all an electric bass can be short of a tailor made Sadowsky for $10,000 or so.

I'd agree that the audio on this recording doesn't do the best job of showing off the variations in tone. I have the L2500 (the 5-string version) which has been my "go-to" bass for about 10 years now. The tone controls are all passive. The first switch flips the pickups between neck(p-bass), both(music-man) and bridge(jazz). The series/parallel flips throws on a wonderfully thick low end when series is selected. The last switch flips between passive, active, active-with-treble-boost(great for slap/pop). With the 3 switches alone, this thing is a swiss-army-knife of basses.

@Thebasshang 8 жыл бұрын
+mert “bassangel” diker I apologize if I misunderstood the question. The EQ is 2 band, just Bass and Treble, no midrange. You're also correct that there is a master volume knob too. The switches are for pickup selecting, series or parallel, and pre set EQ settings.

Are the bass and treble cut and boost? Or are they boost only. Or are they cut only? There’s no center detent. Thanks

Nice playing but I don't really like the tone on any setting. It seems to be weak and lack low end. Plus there is no punch or grit to the sound at all. Maybe it would sound good in R&B or for bass leads, I don't know... I think I'd rather just have a Precision-type bass and an old Ampeg. ;0

Erin Odom It’s just his DI and recording. We’re not hearing the power amp or speakers. You can dial in an exact PBass tone and the L-2000 has a ton of low end. You can also get a JBass and Music Man tone. Very versatile bass. Great for session work. I play an ‘81 L.- 2000 through a ‘90s Eden rig, but the sound hasn’t changed much.

Like you,I like certain old time traditional basses.I have had two Gibson Eb models the last of which ,an Eb3 was stolen or I would still have it.The thing about this G and L lacking a nice thick rich bass tone is because of this demo.I would conclude the same thing if I didn't listen to another demo.In that demo there was plenty of rich fat bass tone.Trust me,I had an Eb0 and an Eb3 and I know what a big thick humbucker can do.This G and L can really do a great job with bass tones,mids and Treble.I have never been into active electronics but here they seem to actually do something good for the sound.I thing it's a fine bass and though I am more of a Gibson fan,I would give this very serious consideration.So many sounds from one instrument.The neck is nice as well.Listen to other demos.You can clearly hear the bass on them.

I have only just acquired one of these bass guitars and would like some help getting to the fattest , roundest sound. I have to admit , I don't know the difference between passive and active using the switch. I play with an acoustic guitar group and the leader keep asking for 'more bass' tone! I'm never quite sure how to set it up...... I'm not a fan of the funky slap style that seems to be played on most demos.....it seems to be good for that.
