I almost always use the "full" version but I just grabbed my guitar and looked when I did it and I do the low end E and A strings like you but I barre the two high strings with my little finger and my 3rd finger takes some time off apparently. Strange....

@@GuitarGoddess I think I finger the E and A strings with my first finger on E for the G note and the second finger on the B note on the A string. My original comment may have gotten backwards.....sorry if so. There should be no injuries resulting from this!

I have to say I’m impressed on how you manage your channel GG. You don’t call out people who are clearly wrong on the comments section by not replying back to try to humiliate them and to prove yourself. You deal with it in a gracious and elegant manner. And you do treat all of us with respect. Thanks. I’ve always used the basic form myself. Because that is all I’ve known. But with the name suggests, the full open chord form has a more full rounded sound. I will indeed adopt it.

Thank you for your kind words. I did read your past comment and I can understand how it may have seemed like what I said was misleading. My goal for these videos is to keep them as simple as possible, so they are easy to pick up. I appreciate you bringing that to my attention, so that I can learn how to better communicate something like that to my audience. All is forgiven, my friend. Arguing about who is right in a comment section doesn't do any good. I want my channel to be a community that facilitates a positive environment. It makes my heart so happy that you appreciate that quality about me. Take care. 💞

@@GuitarGoddess Thank you to take the time to clear the air and to have it in your heart to forgive me. Wow that really does means a lot! I felt I have to say there is a slight misunderstanding and I can see why as my comment was worded subtly. It wasn’t me that accused your tutorial to be disingenuous. My reply to that person must have gotten lost in transit . Talk about bad luck! My comment was the exact opposite and was pointing out to that person that there was nothing misleading in showing the two forms of the G chord. But …. Hey. It doesn’t matter anymore. GG. All I can say is. RESPECT! To you forever.

Only to how it sounds .... and your ears are what’s important. They’re both completely legitimate, just different voicings of the same chord. I prefer the sound of the three finger version, but there are some situations where the four finger version is more convenient e.g. if you’re playing something using G and Cadd9 rather than G and C major (Look at Miss Ohio is a song that sounds nice that way). The four finger G and Cadd9 both have the third and fourth fingers in the same place so you’re just moving your 1st and 2nd fingers up or down a string to change chords (fingers 3 and 4 are pivot fingers in that situation ). That’s a nice easy transition in the early days of playing. You can also play a weak 5 stringed G by playing the 3rd fret of strings 1 and 6 and with your finger on the 6th string also muting the 5th string (you don’t want an open A note ringing out in a G major). Again there are situations where this can help transitions especially if you’re playing something in the key of C and need to get your fingers into an F barred chord. If you use pinky on 1st string and 3rd finger on 6th string that leaves your first finger ready to form the barre on the first fret for an F 😄 Bottom line, all versions are fine, play whatever you like the sound of and which best suits whatever you are playing. But it is good to practice all versions and the 4-finger version will start to get you used to controlling the pinky. You will need to be able to control that when you get to playing barre chords using E maj and A min shapes and need all your fingers working 😄
