Pretty impressive stuff, really like the holographic cube, putting stuff like ads and video logs makes the world seem more real and adds to the history of the area, good work. It would be pretty cool if the holographic cubes could double as a distraction, creating a hologram of you which would get the attention of enemies

That's actually a great idea! I hadn't thought of that. In the game, the player will be learning how to hack terminals, weapons, etc., so this could easily become a mechanic in the final game. Thanks for the tip ;) -Elijah

noodlespagoodle No problem, if you wanna discuss some of the game stuff later we can do so on steam, and if you'd like I could recommend some books on game design.

Hey there Pat! Glad you like it so far - I'm honored ;P I can play just about every song from both the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games as well as both Metro games. My personal play style is kind of folk-like and melancholy anyways, so those games were right up my alley musically.

I say this in every video, but the game is looking better and better! I love the looks of the environment and the fact (almost) everything is usable. I like what you did with the audio logs. It takes away from the experience when you have to pause the game to listen to an audio log or watch a video. As always, keep up the fantastic work and I hope to see more in the future. -Brent

I can't believe I didn't respond back to you yet! Thanks so much for the kind words as always, and I appreciate hearing that you seem to like what I'm going for so far. There's a bunch of stuff going on (For example, I have a composer now), but I can't talk about everything. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer. Thanks again Brent!

noodlespagoodle I absolutely love the whole post-apocalyptic feel to games like Fallout and Metro, I actually came to your channel because your Metro costume looked amazing! About how long have you been working with game developing? Is it a hobby or something you actually took classes in?
@noodlespagoodle10 жыл бұрын
Johnathan Rush Agreed! I love those two series. As for my background with game making: I started learning to 3d model around 7 years ago, and have used this game engine for around 3 (G.R.I.T for around 1 and a few months). This game started as a small idea meant to improve my design skills, but quickly grew into a hardcore passion project, sort of like a "full-time" hobby. I never really learned much except theory of design in my past classes, so most of my experience is trial and error along with some KZbin tutorials. If you have any other questions about game design or G.R.I.T. I'd be happy to answer you!. It's a bit dull being the only person working on this, so it's always nice to interact with people who are curious about my background/ game. :)

noodlespagoodle Is there any one resource you found helpful? By that I mean is any specific website or video really good at explaining things? I was looking into making some sort of game, something basic to start with and was wondering where to begin. In fact if I get good at this I might be able to help! Although that will probably remain a dream.

noodlespagoodle I know. Will there be an Unreal Engine 4 version of this?
@noodlespagoodle10 жыл бұрын
Michael Bayonetta I decided against it- there are many reasons why, but basically it would take WAY too long to remake everything and UE3 is older so it runs better generally than UE4 so those are my two main reasons. I do own UE4 but do not plan to use it for my game any time soon.

Shit my pants at the first few words, "Hi, my name is Elijah." That's only because my name is Elijah too. This game looks amazing for an indie title and i seriously can't wait until eats released. How many people are working on this game?
@noodlespagoodle9 жыл бұрын
Hi other Elijah! (heh) It's essentially just me working on it :) I have someone helping to make some custom songs for it (and he's awesome for helping) but other than that I'm trying to do it solo for portfolio and money reasons. This version is actually outdated at this point and is being completely remodeled for UE4. The new version will have MUCH better lighting and QHD textures for most assets :) I also have been able to add more systems in the UE4 version, including items now being rotatable, a lean system, and a force look at feature (makes the player look at important items and events) Did you have any questions/critiques on what I've done so far? If you check out my IndieDB, I have some of the remastered assets in the most recent update so you can compare the old and new versions. Thanks for checking G.R.I.T. out! :) -Elijah

I just have to say, for one person working on this, this is amazing. I have a long list of questions and i don't want to take your time. I really want to see how this game will look when you get it all working in UE4. If you are ever working on another title or a group project, i have been modeling some things and i am working on a portfolio, so if you need any help with some small assets i would be more than happy to help. Can't wait to see this finished :D
@noodlespagoodle9 жыл бұрын
Wouly Thanks for the kind words ^_^ It is functioning in UE4 at a much more fluid level than it did before :) The issue is more that I have to remake the level layout/assets which is going to take a little while before I can show much! As for your questions, I don't mind answering them at all! (although if it is a spoiler I obviously won't answer it in too much detail, heh). It's nice to have people who are interested in my project in the first place, so I'm curious what kinds of questions people think about when they see my work. Thanks again for commenting :D -Elijah

noodlespagoodle assuming that by this time you will have a team behind you, after grits development is completed would a console port be in mind? what types of mechanics are planned by release? will it in any way be similar to fallout? and are you ever going to go into early access on steam?
@noodlespagoodle9 жыл бұрын
solid snake I love the idea of consoles :) That's something i'd be interested in doing assuming I could afford the licensing and such. As far as the mechanics? I won't mention much of it detail, but imagine a combination of Metro 2033's survivalist systems and emphasis on hiding over direct combat with Amnesia: the Dark Descent's physics interaction mechanics. Then try to picture elements of Half life 2 in the way the narrative and characters are! I would say that it is not exactly like Fallout except in it's appearance (that retro-futurism aesthetic), but I am a huge fan of the game so I would not be surprised if I unknowingly take inspiration from some of it :P This is not an open-world game: more linear but still lots of city to explore (oh yeah, and the city is going to be the main part of the game). I don't think that early access would work for a strictly single player game - it would need to be played all at once to really get it right. I toyed around with releasing it in episodes perhaps, but ultimately it would be best I think as an all-in-one experience without beta access or the like. I'm glad you like what I have so far! It's on a different engine now so it will look much better than it does in this engine (once I've recreated all of the content and remade the gameplay systems that is). It's going along nicely so far. If you have any more questions, let me know!

Tell you what, first thing I like the look of and noticed(besides the nice graphics obviously) is the health bar, it's only a little touch, but really stands out, I think the regenerating health thing is such an over done recycled pile of garbage, it has its uses sure, but I think if BioShock had regenerating health it wouldn't be the same future classic I love 'till this day. Really great. Can I recommend something with your plot please? a bit vague this but keep it dark and touch on a lot of controversial things that people can relate to if you really think about it. Maybe watch some John Carpenter films for even more inspiration... and fun =) If you only watch one, I recommend They Live. There's usually a darker meaning behind most things, especially when it seems all nice and 'set up'. Keep up your great work. Oh yeah 1:43 that's a bit harsh and overkill of that drone, it's only a bouncing ball, bloody kill joy hahaa =P
@noodlespagoodle9 жыл бұрын
You sir have good taste in films! I love "The Thing" as well as "They Live". Both are very high in my list of favorites. I totally agree about the health bar - I wanted to keep the health system more realistic and classic. the interface definitely needs to be cleaned up and will likely change quite a bit as I figure out the aesthetic I'm going for. It's funny that you mention those tips about the plot - I actually have a few controversial things going on with social issues like consumerism as well as some pretty dark subject matter as well that will hopefully be both provocative and compelling. Keep in mind that this bunker is only a tiny part of what I want the game to be - The majority will take place above ground, and will introduce some pretty awesome mechanics, environments, and characters. Until that milestone though, I want to make this bunker as fully realized a place as I can manage :)
@Johny40Se7en9 жыл бұрын
noodlespagoodle I know I do, ta very much though =P That's great, could maybe touch on religion too. I had a look at the videos you sent, ta for those, that NOITOM tech is great, that the same stuff they used in Uncharted? very accurate and fluid. Keep doin' your thing, lookin' forward to seeing it develop the further along you go.

@noodlespagoodle10 жыл бұрын
Perhaps ;) I love art deco, and I figure that in a retro sci-fi game it makes for a pretty sweet environment! I am a huge Bioshock fan, although my game itself doesn't relate beyond elements of its art deco aesthetic.

Is there a way I can donate to the project? This game looks so promising.
@noodlespagoodle9 жыл бұрын
yellowhello786 It's always nice to know that people are still supporting the project even though I've been keeping updates to a minimum nowadays (Switching to a new engine = setback in production). It may take time, but I plan to finish this game with the level of quality it deserves! I'm flattered that you find my project worthy of a donation ^_^! If you really want to donate, my IndieDB homepage has a donate link. Here's the IndieDB page: www.indiedb.com/games/grit-the-past-is-everything If you do choose to donate, I'd be happy to talk with you and incorporate an easter egg of your choice, as well as credit you :) Otherwise, I'd be happy to answer some questions if you have any :D -Elijah

Is this a bit like Fallout?
@noodlespagoodle10 жыл бұрын
Hey man, thanks for commenting! I suppose it is a bit like Fallout in the sense that you start in a bunker, although that is where the similarities will pretty much end. This game is a blend of futuristic and retro, sort of like Blade Runner in a way. It starts off playing a bit like Amnesia, and as you eventually get weapons and tools, it will largely be defensive strategies and not so much direct COD like combat. So definitely an emphasis on stealth and the idea that the player is fragile yet has a variety of useful tools. I suppose I want it to play out a bit Like Metro 2033 did in the survival aspect, but with even less firepower. Feel free to ask if you have any questions!
