back when skateboarding was pure. Everyone was just out to shred. Not trying to look like someone else or worried about street vs. vert. Just skate and do it with style.

weird how 60% of nowadays skaters don't even know what kind of brand G&S is...
@benhaney58434 жыл бұрын
Probably more than 60%. And its not that weird, they haven't had a presence in quite awhile and most kids think the world started the year they were born. Usually most people have to be a little older before they start acknowledging or caring at all about history. Even with the internet and KZbin you still have to care enough to search and know enough to know what to search for. Why would a modern kid search for G&S? They wouldn't know enough to know they should.

Still got my G&S Bowlrider
@soulofash21123 жыл бұрын
It's not really all that weird. Element, Powell-Peralta, Plan B, Zero, Birdhouse, Blind, Girl, et al are the brands people know. They're the ones that have solidified themselves with excellent deck art, big names in skateboarding (Powell-Peralta with people like Stacy Peralta and Tony Hawk), and cultivating a certain image. Gordon & Smith are more about surfboarding. Always have been. Yes, their boards kick ass, and yes, I still have my Warptail 2 (that was Peralta's signature deck when he was on Team Zephyr back in the day) and it is EPIC, but it's not really a shock or weird or unusual that G&S isn't that well known of a brand when their primary focus is surfing, not skateboarding. Just sayin'.

I’m guessing this was a sort of promo video for surf/skate/sports stores to promote product? Or was this a vid that could be bought for home viewing? I have to admit I really don’t know much about skateboarding films in the first half of the 80s. I assumed the Bones Brigade Video Show was the only tape that was sold for home viewing around that time.

I'm not being to pompous by say that if you get out of the bowl 3 feet or more,right its just don't move me,it's amped up cool,but those hand plants make me raff,u make me raff,great ducking music that's olds school riding music,riding music meets jammin music sweet,but every time someone does a hand plant,especially when they put that nice long stall in there that lets the world know this mother fuckers got some serious balance skills I trip the stall is an extra 15 points,its just where the stall is,that makes it so unique.I was busting four airs when I was ten years old in 1975 to 1977,I just got back into skating vert at 53 years old,and I'm having fun because we were blessed with I nice pool locally and I couldn't handle the temptation of not ever riding a good size bowl see onces u riding a 14 foot giant half pipe your kinda spoiled for life,especially at age ten...so 37 years later needing a new hip I got my old ass back up on vert,bowls are awsum but falling on wood is so much more forgiving,but I did good I hung around for a week waiting for the place to empty out,but that never happened,so I came by at ten in the morning and had the whole pool to myself,ten foot deep shallow was like 6foot boys at Payne parks did a killer job and they even came by once and skated the pool so they can't be all that bad.Well I worked on my board to get it up to speed,because it didn't even roll,so I put thousand dollar type s wheels on a 5 cent Wal-Mart board( free promo don't get a Wal-Mart board,and things started to move I was hell bent on doing some airs because I only skated vert for a year and was just doing airs all the time once I learned them,but the old hip on my front foot(regular) is real sketchy and needs to be replaced so I was only able to blast right up to the tile because in 1977 our half pipe didn't have coping so I not to good at coping specially big pool coping so it took me a couple weeks but my 53 year old ass got up ten feet on the pool in the deep end ,but the thing that really surprised me more then anything was these young kids doing two things first thing that happened was I wear all my pads when I skate vert,which most skater don't wear pads,except when there going to try a new trick I didn't know,the kids did,I laughed so their flocking around me hey watch me do this watch me do that,can u do this can u do that,second thing and dis was really amazing I main do front side kick and air preferably,and these kids were having a heart attacks because they never seen front side kick turns,front to front to front,I can't move my hip good enough to do front side airs and that kills me I'm still trying to get over it,I'm hoping I can get in better shape so I can at least do some tail stands and some board slides,like da bad ass one youse guys are busting here,thanks,I got off to a pretty good start,for letting it lay for 37 years and never been in a bowl or pool,but bowls are kick ass,and I just found out that there's a 12 foot bowl recently made not to far away....killer video I've heard about Chris Miller and Neil Blender but never seen any early footage,dose is da god fathers clean shit,poetry,and those tricks are still what I'm seeing today,and this is 1984 crazy man crazy,piece out my neighbor just gave a baker so I starting a new build ,never seen front side kick turns before what da f man...come on kids live a little....chow.
