Gävle is a town in the north of Sweden, most famous for having the world's biggest Christmas Yule Goat. But 50 years ago it used to be known as Sweden's Chicago due to rampant violent crime in the city.
Come along as I explore the city and tell you of its history, dating back to 1413 when this was a fishing town and a center for transporting goods from the area of Bergslagen in Sweden, out to the Baltic Sea.
The places I explore along the way include:
Central Gävle
Gamla Gefle, a preserved 19th and 20th century part of town
Gävle Castle
Gävle Concert Hall
Berggrenska gården, called Sweden's oldest mall
The Boulogner Forest
The Gävle Gasworks, old gasworks that have been transformed into a cultural centre
Oh, and don't miss the clips from Church Street Saloon, a country & western bar in the centre of Gävle.

It always amazes us how far Chicago's reputation of Al Capone and his cronies stretches! Seems like a cool city with some interesting history, thanks so much for sharing! 😊

There may be people who are content with living in Gävle despite its perceived boredom and difficulty in becoming rich. Some individuals may value the peaceful and quiet lifestyle that Gävle offers, as well as its natural surroundings and close-knit community. Ultimately, the decision to live in Gävle or any other place is a personal choice that varies based on individual preferences and priorities.

These individuals may value the quiet and peaceful atmosphere of the city, as well as the close-knit community and sense of belonging that comes with living there. They may find fulfillment in simpler pleasures such as spending time with loved ones, enjoying nature, and pursuing hobbies and interests. Additionally, some people may appreciate the slower pace of life in Gävle and find that it allows them to focus on their personal well-being and relationships, rather than constantly chasing material wealth and success. They may value the work-life balance that the city offers and prioritize their mental and emotional health over financial success. Ultimately, while Gävle may not offer the same opportunities for wealth and excitement as larger cities, there are certainly individuals who find happiness and contentment in the city's unique qualities and slower way of life.

It is difficult to determine who specifically wants to live in Gävle as it varies from individual to individual. Some people may find the city's coastal location and beautiful surroundings appealing, while others may be attracted to the city's historical architecture and cultural events. Ultimately, the decision to live in Gävle would depend on personal preferences, lifestyle, and reasons for moving to the city.

There could be many reasons why someone would want to live in Gävle, despite it being perceived as boring and potentially difficult to become rich. Some people might value the slower pace of life, the natural surroundings, the close-knit community, or the overall quality of life in the city. Additionally, becoming rich is not the primary goal for everyone; some people prioritize other factors such as work-life balance, personal fulfillment, or community connections. Ultimately, the decision to live in Gävle or any other place is a personal one that depends on individual preferences and priorities.

After living here you realized that the Swedish "Castle" is more a manor house. In the English speaking world we always think of castles behind drawbridges surrounded by moats and with big, stone defensive walls. Not quite the same here. Oh, I also love these videos even though I live here. :D

Very nice video! Love the old part showing how people used to live and Sweden’s Oldest Mall. Too bad greedy Russia that has the most land mass in the world has to keep taking even more land. As for your comment about Hell, there is a town named Hell in the state of Michigan in America. It’s university is called the University of Damnation, a Wedding Chapel and knickknacks with the devil motif. There’s no churches in Hell, but if you want to go to church and live in Hell you have to drive to the outskirts where they are located. It’s funny to google Hell, Michigan in the winter and see that it does get cold in Hell, it snows, has freezing temperatures and it rains there too. There is also a small town in Oregon, US called Boring.😊

What’s frisbee-golf? 🤔
@ThreeStarVagabond
@ThreeStarVagabond 3 жыл бұрын
Haha, I've never played it myself, but apparently it's when you throw a frisbee in a trail and you have to hit certain points. Like golf, trying to hit the hole. And you count how many throws you need to hit the location. It's weird but some people here enjoy it :D
@jayamilapersson4030
@jayamilapersson4030 2 жыл бұрын
As he says its a game where you throw frisbees and instead of a hole you have a hoop like in basketball hoop but you have chains instead of a net which keeps the frisbees inside you AIM for the hoop and for each hoop there are a marked begining and you get points depending on how many thrown you need and like in golf you throw from where the frisbee landed after the first initial throw.

Nice video! But you should of went into the church and seen the rune stone! Or visited Gevalia coffee factory! He hee That restaurant with the peanuts on the floor and the US flag hanging is not bad food wise but really bad. I am an American and when I ate there all the Swedes thought ALL places to eat in US just toss food on the floor! The waiter told me "We want to you feel like you are back in US, feel free to toss chicken bones and all the food on the floor. We do not have illegals' working in places in Sweden like you are used too in US, but we have plenty of fairly payed staff with benefits to clean up after you!" He hee.

Yeah, good point! I just felt like I had such short time, since I was on a quick visit there - I forgot about many places... Haha, the only other place I've seen where people throw peanuts on the floor was The Long Bar in Singapore. There they did it out of some old tradition, to have peanuts on the floor so dangerous wildlife couldn't sneak up on you - or at least so I heard. I have no idea why they'd think that US people throw things all over the floor like that.

@@QueenMegaera Well tossing peanuts and bones on the floor is common in the US. In Florida where I lived for years it is very common. A franchise named "Codys" was one the of the serious places that does this. "Winghouse" is another one. But many others. Also out west in several places in California like in Valleyjo and Laholla this is common. So it is something done in US a great deal. BUT she was still being strange! He hee
