The airport security only concerns illegal items or bombs etc. However the hotel where the delegates are staying is much more scrutinized. Imagine how much security there has to be when all major world leaders are staying in a single building. So the minimum decency is to at least co-operate with the security and make their job less painful. But instead making them stand for like 12 hrs and then simply send them back to the Chinese embassy is not a nice move on their part.

Indian security officials should have taken the action in the first instance. While opening of diplomatic bag is not allowed the suspicious oversize bag can be passed through the scanner to know if it is being used to carry drugs, weapons etc (which China is very capable Of). When human beings are being subjected through such screening then why not this unusual size bag. If it happened in China the bag would have been forcefully opened and the member would be either pit in prison or sent back to his country without the bag.

A well trained technician can use a scanner to read every page in a book inside a bag without touching it. If you scan a bag you are actually looking at and through the contents. I can understand the Chinese diplomats concern. I watched while security at a work site scanned my brief case which contained my wallet. I could clearly see every piece of currency in the folded leather wallet and the individual dominations 1's, 10's, and 20's.
