Guthrie is about the fairest person I've ever known. We were at a jam in the Bassment in Chelmsford about 2003 and I had a guitar playing friend with me. He asked Guthrie questions about various guitarists. G3? After a bit Guthrie said, "I am aware of your Satrianis and Vais and so on. Listen to Jeff Beck." That clinched something for me: a good, kind guy, makes excellent coffee, a cracking cup of tea, chops galore if and if he feels they might be important, but - and shouldn't be surprised really - a music lover first. If he rekts these guys, that's a judgment call for you. He'll listen to drums for hours. Djembe for example. "You Had It Coming" confined him to his headset for days.

That was such brilliant musicianship. I usually can't handle Vai, but that just really worked. Govan might just be the best electric guitar player ever. How can you be so fluent in so many styles and techniques and shuffle them on the fly? Just amazing

The same as all great improvisers...Because he doesn't look it as being fluent in all these different styles but only being fluent and trying his best to master his own style, drawing his inspirations and influences from other genres with ultimate goal in mind to further expand and refine his own style ;)

Yo, if you like that type of shredding you should definitely check out Fredrik Thordendal from Meshuggah, hes usually chugging a crazy polyrhythm but when the dude solos its magical. His solos are a lot like Allan Holdsworth. Check the song Dancers to a Discordant System by Meshuggah, one of my favorite solos ever starts at the 6:27 mark in that song. Vai isn't "jealous". This isn't a competition. Satch and Vai invite all these guys because they want to share good music - not see who can play "the best". These guys ALL have their place and they are all VERY, VERY good players. Who could sit there and play the fastest 64th note runs at 150 BPM with some crazy pattern? Mayabe Govan. Maybe whoever practiced the most. I have respect for all of these guys.

Joe and Steve have done more to promote guitar music in their 40+ years in the business than any other guitarist,and totally deserve all the accolades they've received. I think he can, It's just that Guthrie has a different feel while executing that kind of tapping arpeggios and sounds more impressive. Also his right hand technique is different, he uses way more picking than Vai who is a more legatto guitar player ... so as a result Guthries notes sound more percussive and faster. I love and respect these 3 guys, but to my ears Guthrie style sounds more fresh and dynamic with all of those chromatic scales and percussive picking in his style.

If you have ever read and seen interviews about what these concerts are about, the concerts are not just for you, or us, it is for them too! They like to have fun, and they sat around and decided to do this song, so f'n what? don't like it? move on, they are not losing sleep over it:) They share licks and just have the best time they feel like having. I've seen Guthrie play and as a guitar player since 13 he has really upped the game. His ability to flow from one style and technique to the next is bar none! Joe and Steve are extremely great and are really the founders of shred guitar playing, but Guthrie has taking it to a whole new level! I love them all! But Guthrie, man that's a whole lot of bet you can't play this and be humble about it the whole time:)

Hah! This was absurd, and it was obvious everyone was going over the top intentionally for comedic effect. To me the climax was when Keneally played the same lead on guitar and keys @10:20, you could see everyone laughing at that point. Must be great to both have the kind of talent of any of these guys and to also be able to share the stage with each other like this. I see a lot of bickering in the comments about who is best, yadda yadda, but what matters is the fun spirit every person on the stage brought to this performance.

orion681 Nirvana was a step of the ladder for me becoming a fan of these guys, but Kurt was a huge cunt at times. He thought he was some sort of independent artist from a local scene when instead he was just as big as the big hair metal guys and still proceeded to start shit with them. He was a great songwriter, and i still enjoy nirvana's music but as a person i don't necessarily agree with even 25%of the shit he said or did outside the music
