My first game with these hungry boy: Spawn next to sophon, spot a nice titanium system, make an outpost. Sophon built an too outpost and take the system. Look on the other side and I'm being block by the hissio and the vaulter. Rush the attack ship, but these required titanium, so I am stuck with defender ships. Do an early war against the sophon and get two system around turn 30. Suddenly, the vaulter are declaring war on me. They were the leading faction and had a bunch of systems, while I barely managed to colonized 3 systems, that are in reality the remains of the sophon. Everyone is starting to starve, but I manage to get medium ship and stole laser canon tech from the vaulter. The hissio also declared war, but I've never seen them, so let's Ignore them. The great war of turn 50-150 was a massacre, millions of craver and vaulter dying for planets that there empire weren't capable of keeping, making this an attrition war, that craver couldn't win. Suddenly, around turn 170, horacio join the war against the ugly hive and lost very large system containing tier 2 and 3 ressource. Against the newly revised craver fleet, wich was made of tech stolen from left and right, the vaulter are being pushed back, until they make an alliance with Horacio and the geometry waifu. Fortunately, out of nowhere, the magic cloud came to my rescue and started nuking everything with there newly created obliterator. This war continues until around turn 300, where the luminaris stole my well deserved supremacy victory by being rich.

This song is sinister, it's militaristic, yet has a hint of sadness to it. Even though I don't play the game, just reading about the Cravers makes me feel sorry for them. The Cravers kill all life they come across not because they enjoy it, but they have no choice but to follow a kill or die system because that's how the Endless designed them to be. They live to work and always feel hungry no matter what they eat, all because their only purpose was to serve as cannon fodder that consume everything when their creators needed to deal with "pest control" or "garbage disposal".

I don't think they're "hungry" in the traditional "need food" sense. They probably just ingest some kind of mass-produced nutrient paste. They don't crave food, *they crave destruction*

Jason Hawk, I haven't played, but from what I read they can eat any plant and animal mass. So... yes, they do crave food, they're used as weapons to wipe out a planet completely, and to turn it barren. They are constantly starving, and thus have to endlessly colonize and spread.

It would be interesting to explore a potential "questline" that pursues a splinter sect of Cravers (led by a unique Bishop), who are attempting to somehow break this cycle. Trying to silence the psychosomatic side of the eternal hunger, to streamline their biological processes to require less overall nutrition, and break the chains of their dead masters. And in doing so, perhaps it could introduce an existential crisis for the Cravers: "What is a Craver, without a craving?". And in addition, as part of the questline, it could give a change to the Main Population like in the United Empire questline.

My first encounter with these guys was seeing a fleet of 13 ships, 3 of which were medium, making a beeline from a starlane that they *made* at me. I had scout ships and only had 2 nearby to intercept. I knew I was going to have a bad time. Thank god I could spam out on average 3 per turn to send in to fight them by attrition. They had taken 3 of my outer system before I finally stopped them at a choke point and held them long enough by cheesing with the enhanced shield tactic, as many flak guns and shields I could put on the explorer frame until I could crank out some proper destroyers of my own.

Managing your population as craver is kinda hard because once they finished devouring a planet the input of the planets is very low & it's especially bad for food.

@@madness1383 kinda do that but I mostly like to put cravers on one or two planets & put my miners on over other planets as well. It's a god send if you manage to find or assimilate the sower because they can restore depleted planets & I put them on the same planets as cravers. I also still think you should at least hit the 50 cap population for cravers to gain their trait & that you should take advantage of the slave drive trait to build more faster.

@@bobmcbob49 as a craver player, that's probably the adequate answer. Cravers do not really care about the pressure vines put on another empire (because they are constantly at war) so the best answer is to kill them when you can

The issue isn't so much that they have destructive urges, it's that they have no *other* urges. You could probably keep a craver docile and harmless with VR, but then it'll be just that, they have no desire to create a lasting legacy, great works of art, or a rich culture, they only crave consumption.

Probably the race that makes the least sense of all of them. The players are able to destroy planets halfway up the miltech path, and the Endless couldn't? Why wouldn't they just dump the cravers on one planet and blow it up, way less chance of them escaping

The Endless had a war going on, finite resources, with more pressing matters. The cravers were dumped on a planet and the planet glassed, it even has continent-sized craters where the bombs hit in the world preview screen. A planet killer is much better used against the Concretes, it makes no sense to waste one to destroy the cravers when a conventional bombing is expected to be enough, and if not it sets the surviving cravers back for such a long time they won't be a concern for centuries. That's the first rule of warfare, don't use excessive force, it's wasteful. The only error the Virtuals did in relation to the Cravers was complete mutual destruction, had either Endless faction remained, THEN the cravers would have been completely destroyed once the war was over.
