Another interesting antenna keep bringing us antennas like this

👍That was interesting, thank you Peter. I don't recall this antenna. It reminds me a little of antennas such as the Spiderbeam and Moxon. On 10m, the V5 design is perhaps very similar to a Spiderbeam. I used to enjoy getting the odd copy of Short Wave Magazine.

You are right, this is an interesting antenna. But, it is specialized so not everyone can build it. It requires a commercial multiband element. But, there are many wire beams that would be, I suspect, the equivalent builder's antenna not requiring the cost or cannibalization of another antenna. The Spider Beam, Hex Beam, and Moxon are three that basically are the same kind of antenna with their own driven elements. I don't know where they fall in the timeline, which came first, but the concepts surrounding this antenna are widely popular today. That antenna may have faded quietly into history, but if it were first, it left a pretty big wake.

Interesting antenna pity it's so big :-) gardens have become much smaller the years. ! As an aside, I've been watching your channel for quite some time and I've often spotted the aircraft pictures on your wall. Would they be by Harold Garland by any chance? they are very much in his style. If so I used to work in the same Lab when I was still an apprentice. I know he is SK now, G0NFJ - but that call seems a little new. Every so often Harold would bring in a selection of his paintings and set them up on a spare bench for us to admire. Really nice man I learnt a lot from him. Andy

This reminds me of the 'v' dipoles we built for fpv flying off rc planes. The forward pointing vertical v would begin to fade as the plane got too far causing weak signal static in the 2.3-2.4 Ghz analog video receiver and hence your video goggles. This would cause you to turn around and head home with the stronger forward pointing lobe pointing toward you giving a much stronger and clearer video signal. That was the working theory anyway. The antenna did have a stronger front lobe where the open part of the v was. If I recall correctly, the v's legs needed to be a bit longer to be tuned correctly but if they were bent in the field they worked fine when when you fixed by bending it back to approximate time. Easy and cheap to make vs the 4 leaf circular polarized clover antennas which are a bit more imvolved... Both of these were designed or adapted by some guys on fpvlab and shared about 15-20 years ago.

Thanks for sharing Peter, what a very interesting ant. I have often thought how a 20m beam ant would work, in comparison to my 3 ele parasitic vertical array. 73 zl3xdj.

Another amazing video - Thank you Peter - One question: How does the antenna in the background fair with the new EMC regulations - I have worked long and hard to comply with what 'I' think the rules infer only to see vertical antenna etc at ground / eye level being promoted. Am I reading the rules wrong ?

The antenna you see was erected for VSWR on measurements with an antenna analyser. Ultimately to be used for portable operation.

Alright then. I have got to try this.

Would this antenna be great for reception of over the air TV channels ?? I was thinking if this was reduced in size to 1/4 size wavelength this just might work, Drop a line with what you think. Peace vf

I’m putting a cobweb antenna up. The balun of the cobweb, does this want to be facing North/South or East/West
@watersstanton2 ай бұрын
It does not matter. The cobweb is omindirectional.

Anyone found a design for this with actual lengths and dimensions? Haven't had luck yet...
