An American original. From the NYC scene to the Parisian runway. From Network Television day and night to theatrical stages on both coasts and the Wigstock stage. A creative force and cultural and drag legend through the decades. A true genuine show person.

I've watched this hundreds of times and I just realized that @6:18, she doesn't pick up the telephone receiver, instead addressing the audience directly for maximum comedic effect.

Virtuoso comedic timing! Brilliant! I would love to see a breakdown of each of the 'quotes' she uses in this routine - which actress and film. I know many of them but not all. I want to watch each and every one to see those that have inspired Lypsinka! ❤

I've been obsessed with this performance ever since I saw it at Nightgowns and I've been trying to find where the "You didn't, you didn't!" part is from but I can NOT for the life of me find it!

I think it's from Mr. Skeffington, a wonderfully campy, melodramatic Bette Davis film. Not positive but I think so.
@aft3rgl0w76 жыл бұрын
I found it! It's from an album from a celebrity impressionist named Arthur Blake, called Curtain Time, from 1957. He's doing a Bette Davis impression. You can hear it at the beginning of this clip: at.ytube.org/video/Vo5ru8t2vYY and can find more info about the album here, including mp3s of the tracks (this part is from track 3, starting at 5:00) queermusicheritage.com/drag-blake2.html

This is what drag mime should look like. I am so bored of queens who have one gag, to one song, and expect that to sustain for 3 or 4 minutes. You see it time and time again. I was always taught that if you mime on stage, what you do should enhance the track, not be dictated by it.
@ivanolsen79663 жыл бұрын
or make you see the track as another story so you never think of the song the same ever again

Anyone know who's version of "If my friends could see me now" (the first song) that is, and where the "Popularity" song (the second song) is from? Can't find anything on them despite much googling. If anyone knows where the "you didn't... you didn't" part is from as well, please post!
