Anyone attempting to taper Gabapentin, I recommend going much slower than this. Going down 300mg at a time is good until you get to 300mg, then try going to 200mg for a while (at least a week), then 100mg for a while, then 50mg for a while, then 25mg for a while, then 12.5mg from a while. And yes, once you go under 100mg you're cutting open the pill and just taking the powder. Just eyeball it, half is 50mg, a quarter is 25mg, an eighth is 12.5mg etc...The point: take your time and go slow, I avoided withdrawal symptoms when I did it this way.

Hi Mason, thanks for sharing how you felt. It’s good to hear your descriptions as my five year old is going through it and it’s been terrible for him. It breaks my heart what this does to his mind. If only I’d known, but then again it took the pain away so he could walk again, so for that I’m grateful. I can confidently say it effected his behaviours. His moods changed dramatically , he was angry, aggressive, irritable, agitated and restless all the time. He lashed out physically at insignificant things. He was extremely anxious too. He also suffered physically from severe headaches, sweating, being tired from severe insomnia and feeling itchy all the time. This drug is both incredible and alarming. He was on it for over 7 months and started to taper off over a period of four months. He has stopped now, but the withdrawals are still happening on day 5. Thank you so much for explaining how you felt. You are really helping people to understand what this drug does and to spread the importance of tapering down. I appreciate it. Annie.

I hope your son is doing better. I have been off of it for 5 days now. I tapered myself down to 40mg by splitting open the capsules and weighing them on a digital scale. I think that was critical for me to come off without major withdrawal symptoms.

I was prescribed this drug for pain due to bone spurs in my neck. It worked great, but after a while, I started to forget simple things like where I placed my keys, forgetting stuff at the grocery store. Then one day I forgot my pin code for the teller machine. When I had a doctor appointment and forgot where her office was, I really got concerned and told her about this when I got there. Doctor immediately stopped me from using the drug, tapering me off slowly. It took about a month and a half, but my memory is fine now. Gradual withdrawal I felt tired, irritable, and couldn't sleep well. Terrible drug.

I had jaw surgery and was given this medication for the nerve pain that I had gotten after surgery. It definitely helped with the nerves firing 24 hours a day. When I first started taking it I was having trouble dreams for the first couple of weeks. Then I started to talk to a few people and they all had nothing good to say about it. I took it for about 2 months straight and I was a total ass hole on it. So I went cold Turkey I straight up threw them away. I was a worse ass hole for about two more weeks. I was thinking about shit that I’ve never thought about in my life. I felt as if I had lost self confidence and questioned my self if I would ever be able to deal with the pain and my mind was telling me to get back on it. My wife had to give me some tough love by telling me she married a strong minded person not a person that let his mind that was influenced by substance control my life. It was hard to stomach it coming from my wife but I swear with out her telling me that I would probably still be on it. I still suffer from nerve pain but to be honest I rather deal with some pain than deal with mental illness because thats where it was going. I’m writing all of this to say you are not alone and for you to stay strong you got this💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Gabapenten nearly literally killed me! I was talking it for nerve pain (fibromyalgia, pinched nerves through out my entire spine). The pain was and still is almost unbearable. Gabapenten caused me to have strong suicidal thoughts, hallucinations, anxiety, extremely terrifying vivid dreams, sleep paralysis, feelings of being electrocuted on different parts of my body, crazy insomnia up to being unable to sleep 1 to 5 days and so much more. I was only on 100 mg. 3 times a day for about 1 year. When I finally went to the ER they said I was having a panic attack, IDIOTS and before I was disabled I was a nurse. The next day I stopped taking it (2017) and so very grateful! All of those symptoms have slowly almost disappeared, but this is 2024. This was just my experience with gabapenten. I don’t recommend quitting cold turkey, especially on higher doses!

I started drinking a lot, I had never drank till I was 38 and like anything I do I take it too far. I was drinking 2 handles a week of captain Morgan 100 proof a week. So when I decided to stop drinking I started smoking weed again. Then when I stopped smoking weed I couldn’t sleep to save my life so I started using Kratom. Trying to get rid of Gabapentin by say taking 1 at 6:am today, will take 6:15am next day. Adding 15 minutes from yesterday and so on. When the routine reach around 12:noon. I skip taking it the next day. Then start again the day after my self imposed routine back at 6:am. I lost confidence with my doctor (who is very young at that time) that’s why I’m doing this. @@masonrunning sorry I should have mentioned that unfortunate fact. However spores are perfectly legal to obtain in 48 states of the US (wink) and for me personally, I was getting too suicidal, and my doctor wouldn’t allow me to taper any slower than -600 a month, which is BS imo. Psilocybin micro or macro is incredibly beneficial by wiping clean those synaptic pathways we build up through drug addiction. Clinical trials via John Hopkins U have shown 80% success rates for cocaine, alcohol, nicotine, etc. they’re currently studying it with buprenorphine in AL. Dosing by micro is probably best at .1-.3 every day for 5-7 days, then take two days off, then back on and repeat. Every time you’re starting again, it’s time to drop Gabapentin again. Psilocybin is also non toxic, one of the safest substances known to man, and molecularly structured very similarly to DMT, which is produced endogenously by the brain. It’s also non addictive, I’ve gone up to a week without taking it, and the only withdrawal I had was from trying to drop Gabapentin again without it (that bs sucks)

@@masonrunning I’m also down to 900 from 3000mg, and while I can feel it’s getting harder to drop by 300mg at a time, I’m not super worried because I plan on reducing the drops and increasing the other usage to make up for it. Will probably have to use P for a couple weeks after the final drop to help my brain heal naturally during that time. See, I’m not 100% sure, but it genuinely feels like the P actually quickens the healing process, especially in larger amounts. It’s almost like I’ll take an amount, and I’ll lose tolerance to Gaba, even though I’m dropping. For example. I took around a gram one day, then stopped taking it for a couple days, during those days I was down to a 300 in the morning and 600 at night, and the 600 at night actually knocked me the hell out and made it feel like I’d just started taking them again. Very bizarre. The more withdrawal you go through, though, the more trauma you’re experiencing and going to have to deal with in one way or another, and I don’t want that trauma to interfere with the speed or success of my taper. So I’m trying to still go as slow and steady as I can to win this race in the end. Thanks for responding! Your videos were a big help in keeping me motivated to get off this stuff in the beginning. I was on 3000 for around 7 years, so I’m just trying to be as slow and safe as I can be.

Don't be discouraged. Just do a very slow taper over a longer period of time. Watch a You Tube video by Jeff Thasher on his taper journey. It will be scary to hear whst he went through but it will give you hope. I take 1200 per day. I started a taper down to 900 a day but it was too many mgs to go down. By dsy 7, I became so dizzy I was lethargic. I had to go back up. Took me days to recover. However, I want off of it. I am experiencing times where I am clumsy, stumbling over my words when speaking at times and I developed tremors, which can be a side effect after ling term use ( almost 3 years for me). I learned from my first attempt thst I am going to go super slow, even if it takes many many months. Again, watch the video I suggested. Be encouraged! Be hopeful! I wish you success😊

I run out early lately because I take gabapentin for pain and anxiety. I think how I feel getting off of it is just more pain and anxiety. But it is helpful and I feel a safer alternative then opiates or benzos. We really need to keep it on the market as physicians and patients need something that can help and Drs are very reluctant to hand out controlled substances.

Agreed 100%! I'm prescribed 600 3 times a day for anxiety as well as to deter me from my previous drug abuse. It has been a godsend, I haven't touched an opioid since. Although the withdrawals are not fun, I'd rather be having them than being panicked or worse, constantly screwed up on something that'll kill me.

@@Josh-rn1em I've been on it since Jan 2021 so not that long term, but the only noticeable side effects I've gotten were blurred vision which went away in a few weeks, sometimes I'll drop things or have jerks of my muscles. The withdrawal from it sucks but I can tell you I would rather be withdrawing on Gaba than touch an opioid again and have it consume me. I am tapering from prescribed benzos. The benzo withdrawal is absolute hell and tapeting is super slow because if i try to go faster i get too many bad symptoms. So to help i started taking some gabapentin. It is helping especially now at the end of the benzo taper. Actually its the only thing helping short from sleeping in a comatose state. But now at the end my withdrawals getting worse and i am wondering if its now the gabapentin giving me withdrawals since i am taking them less now to see if i can get off the benzos. My anxiety is up and i get burning skin and feel restless just unable to function. When i take a low dose of gabapentin this goes away and i calm down dramatically. The burning hot skin cools off. So i dont know is it now increased benzo since i heard its hard shortly before tapering off or is it now gabapentin whom i relied on to help me through. How do i differentiate? Im worried now about gabapentin reading horror stories online. Benzos are hell i can verify that especially because physical dependence can kick in even after a very short time as in my case. Is gabapentin the same?? So i just changed from one hell to another? Please let me know what you know!

I think it's completely irresponsible for this medication to have been prescribed for anxiety related to abuse of another substance to begin with...I hope this doesn't scare people off from using this medication because it's extremely effective for neuropathy and a great substitute (when used properly...) for opiates when people actually do have injuries or conditions requiring pain management! ✌️. It does help with alcohol consumption, if that's one's issue, because it does act on GABA receptors. But if a person has an addiction issue with alcohol, that likely just swaps hands and turns into addiction of gabapentin (or anything else a person might substitute alcohol for). Someone recommendeded microdosing psilocybin and I'd never advocate anything illegal but I'd say go macro instead of micro, work out the subconscious, underlying issues using your new awareness, address those, and not have to even think about microdosing. Start fresh. 👍✌️💪. All the best!

Men should also be encouraged to express emotion and be open about their health struggles as well. Leaps and bounds ahead of where we were, but I've known several men personally who have died younger, or are in the process of because they refused to go to the doctor. I spent years avoiding the doctors because I was ashamed that I was in so much agony. Expressing emotion and physical pain doesn't mean be weak. Men should be emotionally tough, but it should be approached in a much healthier way than "Stop whining and be a man." Part of the reason I tried escaping my reality is because I heard "stop being a pussy" from my own father more times than I can count. When you think you are supposed to be cold and emotionless, and invincible in the face of chronic pain, I feel you are much more likely to fall into things like alcoholism etc

The half life of a drug has nothing to do with its potential to cause dependence. Most chemicals with abuse potential display withdrawal symptoms. This video was made to inform people who are suffering from withdrawal symptoms of the potential difficulties which may arise. My personal issues are in no way attached to this video. I take pride in my ability to distinguish my personal issues from the withdrawal of a chemical. It is a fine line and is a skill which takes some practice to develop.
