Hey guys!
I just wanted to do a video, expressing my personal concerns about Gabapentin.
I'm not a doctor, and this is not meant to be taken as advice. It's just my own personal opinion.
Much appreciation and love to you all!
Peace and good vibes.
Jay

Thank you so much for making this video. TAKE NO MEDICATIONS THAT HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE MARKET FOR AT LEST 15 YEARS W/O RECALL ISSUES! Doctors got HUGE kick backs for feeding patients, "new" drugs that harm MANY! I was given Gabapentin in doses that were 3000-5000 mg and I should never have gotten more than 100-300 MG MAX! it destroyed my kidneys are took a long time to get off of. Zoloft is dependence/(addiction, if there is dependence there is addiction) causing too. They finally made this a scheduled medication because of the benzo and alcohol type effects which SHOULD have been mentioned. Doctors/pharmcorps aren't too bright/ethical about the drugs they are allowed to pass out in samples of out. The first taste being free type drug pusher tactic says alot & try pushing on patients. I got ill for 4 years at age 18-22 and was given so many drugs I would not take and then they'd get pulled for causing too many deaths and injury. Why doctors are allowed to be gatekeepers. We KNOW what opiates are and how they interact with the body, so they can be mitigated. These newer meds aren't being responsibly managed or tapered.

Search for God with all your heart and you'll find the meaning to life. He will answer. It took several months of me seeking with everything inside of me before I found Him. Don't look in churches and preachers. Some of them are good but some are not. Open your bible and get on your knees And seek His face with everything inside of you and you will find Him. Nothing else in this world will ever satisfy your soul to 100% capacity. We were created to have a relationship with the one who created us and having that is where you find true satisfaction and contentment.

I'm on day 3, but from a light and short heroin run and they're helping Alot, I'm figuring by day ten I should be starting to feel better BTW, I got a gabapentin habit years ago, but once I reduced the miligrams I didn't feel a thing coming off those though. but yeah, they help through the first part of withdrawal, like 7-10 days use and I shouldn't get a habit. Yh, they told my mom that they would help for nerve damage in her feet, she had no idea they were addictive, she never took them though, which is good cause I need them right now

Congratulations, my friend! I'm proud of you for taking your life back. I spent over 13 years, messed up and miserable. The last year of my life spent sober, has been one of the richest and most productive and healing. Gabapentin was an absolute life saver. But I believe I was on too high a dose, and for too long. So, coming off the Gaba really screwed with my sleep, and increased my anxiety for about two weeks. But, ultimately, the support and relief it gave to me exceeded the negatives. Thank you for your comment, and again, congratulations! ✌😊

Looking good Jason! The struggle is real. Wow you go through a lot: I can’t imagine. Glad reading helps. I do like reading meditation and spiritual related books and feel like it gets me through rough times. Good for you 👍🏼👍🏼💕. I am a physical therapist and man those drugs people get on sometimes, it’s too much. In the nursing home people are on like 40 drugs or more. It’s crazy. Doctors CAN be pill pushers at times. Glad you do your own research; I did too related to Lyme disease since no one would really help me.

Thanks for your support, Sarah! Yes, reading helps a lot. It keeps my mind occupied. And I had lost my love of reading, while on pills. So, I've got a lot of books to catch up with. :) And yes, some doctors really are pill pushers. I've known a few. Unfortunately, I don't think my doctor really thought this one thru, so I'm glad I did some research. I think Gabapentin is an amazing drug... Just not for addicts like me, who are trying to get their brain chemistry back to normal. 💛😊✌

Your videos really have me breaking down because you're saying everything I feel outloud. I'm struggling with fentanyl perks and it's really ruining my life my daughter's life and my family's life and they don't know what I'm addicted to but its surely getting more obvious. The sickness it's so horrible I try to slow down but truth is that's never gonna work. I need to let my family in. My father. My sisters. I keep acting like I'm fine but it's taken its tole on my body my health my mental health. I haven't felt so hopeless and depressed and anxious and the feeling to just end my life since freshman high school. I over came it and not with the meds I was given. And now to say I'm losing what I fought for because of a pill I smoke. I don't want to lose my daughter. Or myself I feel like ending myself. I'm in tears and this needs to be my wakeup calling. Bless you and the Cold utter truth you are speaking. 💗 I'm a big fan of you I admire you. Every movement is a self improvement. I will get clean I can and I promise to begin a journey to sobriety.

Thank you so much for your comment, and sharing your experience. The best thing I did, to help me on the road to recovery, was fessed up. (First, to myself; then to my loved ones.) Once you're open with others about it, then you can be more open about the struggle... The quiet war you're fighting on your own, with no back up... Others can help you hold yourself accountable, because it's just something no one should have to battle on their own. Support is truly key. I know you've got it in you, and I know you're going to get clean: for yourself, and for the ones you love, and who love you in return. 💛 I'm here if you ever need someone to vent to, my friend. Good morning Jason! Gabapentin is a strange med. I’ve been on it for years and have had a positive experience with it..especially for mood and anxiety and for the other various medical issues I deal with. I have also tapered off of it several times, under the supervision of my doctor. In my own experience coming off of it I had sweats and mood swings. I have also came off benzodiazepines..and for me that was just horrible even with a taper plan. For me personally coming off gabapentin was nothing like coming off benzodiazepines. That was my personal experience. Everyone is different and react to meds and tapers differently. I felt the withdrawal from benzos way longer than gabapentin. I do agree with you that doctors need to tell patients that their bodies can become dependent on gabapentin and that they need a taper to come off of it. Thanks for the video Jason. Keep on keeping on! Have a good one😀🌟

It's just that, after reading some of the withdrawal symptoms (especially the mental ones), it scared me a bit. So I'm glad to know, from your experience, what the withdrawal was like for you. I know it’s been a while since you uploaded this, but I feel you so hard on this stuff. Im currently trying to get off Gabapentin just to make it easier coming down on Suboxone, which is ridiculous considering I specifically asked my doctor “will I become addicted to Gabapentin” before I ever took it, and he literally told me NO, it is NON habit forming, and this was a year before it became a schedule drug, but he still should have known, and he should have been honest with me. I’ll always be pissed about that one, like come the f on dude, this my LIFE, and with that one decision, he made it exponentially more difficult. Because I was quite resistant to getting on anything else aside from Suboxone. This is a hell of a journey, though, I’m wondering how you’re doing now. I can’t wait to be free again, hoping it won’t be years from now. Im currently on 6mg a day, started at 16 a day around 5 years ago. Just can’t take it anymore, gotta get clean somehow, no matter what it takes. I quit using cannabis around 8 months ago, that was tough, but doable, and I’m hoping that will be a temporary resource once I get to the really low doses. Hope all is well with you, people just don’t know how hard this is.

Hey friend - thanks for this kind and extremely honest comment. People don't get how hard this journey is. I'm 3 and a half years in, and I still struggle. I've had 7 to 10 days, scattered here and there, where I've relapsed. But I noted what triggered me, avoided said trigger, and picked myself right back up like my life depended on it. Because life free from the chains I used to be in is night and day... The old me is buried safely within, and I've slowly gathered the tools to deal with him when he comes out, so-to-speak. I really hope you're doing well on your journey, my friend. I apologise for the delayed response. (I've been on my other channel) Just know I'm rooting for you every step of the way, and I get how hard and heavy each step is. You're stronger than you know; we all are. @@TheseFourWalls I’m so glad you’re doing better these days, I can’t tell you how happy that makes me to know. Your videos have been a bit of a haven for me over the last couple years as I’ve been searching for ways to get off this stuff. I eventually ended up trying micro dosing Psilocybin to help get off Gabapentin, and that ended up helping my brain heal from it much much faster and with much less horrible withdrawals. It also really helped me get to the root of why I’ve stumbled with drugs and become an addict, and I believe it helped me a lot. It’s non addictive so I stopped using that no problem. I’m getting my second and last shot of Sublocade the day after tomorrow, and then I’m done with buprenorphine FOREVER. So I’m hoping that goes well and I can heal accordingly. Some people have some minor withdrawal for a couple months, but I’m ready for it I think. Either way I’ve spent as much money as I’ll ever spend on it so I’m just done with it all. I’m ready to be free again. Fuck these pharmaceutical companies and the doctors who have absolutely no regard for patients, though. But thank you again for your videos and your reply, it means a lot. I wish you nothing but the best as you continue with your journey with recovery. Never give up, you’re incredible resilient yourself, you’re actually a champion for going through everything you went through to get off of it all, seriously.

Thanks for your comment, it's good to know my videos are helpful in any way. And I couldn't agree more, my friend... Fuck pharmaceutical companies, and fuck irresponsible, money hungry doctors - fattening their pockets while having no regard for the literal hell they've put us through. I missed the part in your first comment about you asking your doctor if Gaba was addictive... I literally asked the same question and got the same answer. It's insanity. But I'm proud of you, having come through all that you've come through thus far. I know how hard it is, it's like a silent, solo war with yourself. But I have complete faith in you successfully finishing your journey back to the person YOU want to be. It's obvious, in your comments, how serious you are about getting clean. And, at least for me, that's what it took... wanting it more than anything... getting pissed and fed up and just wanting my life back. And that's how you sound. You're gonna be successful, friend. And if you need to talk or vent, I'm here. Keep your eyes on the prize, fellow warrior. 💪☺✌

Exactly. Gabapentin is supposed to only be taken for the 1-2 weeks tops just to get over the immediate accute withdrawals. There's virtually no chance for dependancy in that amount of time with the dose you mentioned, and even substantially more. After you're over the hump, then stop. You can even slowly decrease the dosage after the first week if you're worried about it. Gabapentin is a miracle for opiate withdrawal if taken correctly. Reason he has issues is because he's taken it for a long time. For everyone else lookign to use it to get off opiates, take it as I mentioned above and not long term.
@TheseFourWalls
@TheseFourWalls Жыл бұрын
Everyone has different experiences with Gabapentin. What might be a miracle for some could be a curse for others. I took it exactly as prescribed, and experienced hellish withdraws. That was my experience. If I'd been abusing it, I'd have expressed that. And just doing some simple searches on the internet, you can easily see that this is the case for many, many others who take Gabapentin. Everyone doesn't respond the same to a medication. But certainly glad it helped you, and everyone else that benefits from it. ✌
@TheseFourWalls
@TheseFourWalls Жыл бұрын
And ps, I was on Gabapentin for months before I even began my recovery journey, for restless legs. So it wasn't a 1 to 2 week situation for me. My dose was increased to help with the opiate withdraw. Then I dealt with the Gabapentin withdraw.
@Zonatapio
@Zonatapio Жыл бұрын
@@TheseFourWalls which only reinforces my point. Its the best opiate withdrawal medication there is, especially when taken for accutes (1-2 weeks). Your situation was different because you had prior long term use and a very high dose, hence the withdrawals you experienced from the gabapentin.

Hey Michael - This video was made over 6 months ago, so I'm off the Gabapentin now. But I was taking 1800 mgs a day of Gaba, as prescribed by my doctor. The night sweats I was experiencing at this point in my detox weren't from the opiate withdrawal, it was from the Gabapentin taper. But honestly I experienced night sweats during my PAWS as well. I experienced a lot of heightened anxiety and nightmares which would cause night sweats. But that's also tied into my Complex PTSD. So, everyone's withdrawal process is gonna look different. Yes you can, and it helps a lot with opioid withdrawal and nerve pain. It takes about 4 to 6 weeks for most people to start experiencing dependence. Hey my friend - I never ended up having to take Suboxone, so I am afraid this is a question better suited for your doctor. Discuss a slow taper (coming down like 2mgs every three months or something) so you can more gently get your system used to not having it. Also, check out the KZbin channel Real_Talk_ Recovery - a woman named Nicole runs the channel. She does live streams daily, and she's very knowledgeable about Suboxone. She even runs a MAT support and recovery group meeting once a week. (She's currently doing a slow-taper program herself, after being on Suboxone for 4 years.) I wish I had more answers for you, my friend. But I'm always here for support, if you need to talk. Peace ✌

These Four Walls thanks man. I have complex ptsd also from childhood trauma exacerbated by 2 tours in Iraq in 03 and 05. I was on every friggen psych med in the book for years and I managed to come off all of them. I got extremely injured out there and had multiple back surgeries and a knee surgery so I was also on every pain med in the book I managed to come off of. Gabapentin is the LAST med I take and I cannot wait to get off it to finally get my life back. Gabapentin originally helped my anxiety and my pain, but I’ve been on it for about 12 years, and I’ve been on 3600mgs the past 3 years. Every time I’ve tried to taper, I’ve always wound up back on it so a quick week long taper is it for me and I’m never refilling it again. I just want my life back. It has made my anxiety much worse over the years but still hells somewhat. I can live with the pain, it’s the anxiety that kills me, especially between the hours of 4am - when I wake up - and noon... after that it’s still bad, but tolerable. I will keep you posted

I aint doctor either but GABA saved ma ass in my last detox ! I took it only for 2-3 weeks to get over the acute withdraw and then stopped, of course I started by using Loperamide for the first week, Constipation is hell but at least I was off my drug of choice cause of lope, try to eat as lil as you can if you are mega dosing lope or eat something that doesn't turn to stone in your gut before you push it out, then I switched to GABA and it mostdefinitly took 70-80% of my worsts symptoms off, if you happen to have some Benzos for only a week or two MAAAAAAX that can help too, but you go find your own dosage, I'm not gonna tell anybody how much I was taking of each, good luck, oh btw I started hitting the gym after a month or two to help my body and brain recover faster, now im a big ass mofo, you can consider TRT and HCG treatment too as you probably have no fuckin testosterone in your fucking system, which makes you cry like a lil girl, which is normal of course, nothin to be ashamed of, testosterone also gave me a weird high after 3-4 weeks which I can't describe here. its like the magic hormone for a male. peace

Hey bud, I was prescribed gabapentin for withdrawal as well man and I didn't know I would go through withdrawal from it either. I stopped taking it abruptly and I had withdrawal symptoms for a week or so. My insomnia came back and anxiety, just make sure you taper off it bud. I told my doctor I didn't want anything addictive and he still prescribed it to me. It helped me but I wish I would have researched it as well. Glad I jumped off it now looking back on it! My doc upped my dose of gaba (I was on it prior, for RLS) from 300 mgs a day to 2400 mgs of gaba to help me come off oxycontin. It helped for the first week, so it got me through the worst of the physical... But then I was kept on it for months. I finally asked my doc "should I stop taking this much gaba?" She basically told me to do what I wanted. Then she said "hell, even if you have to take more Gaba to stay off opioids, we're ALL winning." I didn't want to feel "dependant" on another pill. I wanted to be sober. I needed my brain to heal. So I began taking myself of the Gaba. And holy shit!! Coming off of gaba was the WORST! I'd sweat buckets, toss and turn all night. I'd get no sleep, none at all. I had bad headaches and "brain zaps" for a few months, after being completely off the Gaba. And I felt hopeless. So, I began a sloooow taper off the Gaba. It was still rough, but I made it. Dr's should be more forthright with their patients, especially regarding medications that run a high risk of causing dependency. And the withdrawals are no friggin joke.

Within the past 3 and a half years, I've had maybe 7-9 days where I've relapsed. But that's obviously a far cry from the addict I was before, so I'm not too hard on myself - and I think that's crucial. If we beat ourselves up, we stay down. It's all about picking yourself back up from inevitable stumbles ... Cuz we're human ... We're fallible. But we've all got reservoirs of strength and perseverance within us. And once you've fully recognised and reclaimed your power, you can break free from those chains. Keep fighting, my friend. 🙏✌

It heals through influence. Influence forces your chemistry to change... for instance, let's say you're struggling looking for drugs right? And you are driving down the road yadayada, you come across a car accident. You witness it. You see the person needs help and feel you have no choice but to help, so you go involve yourself to see if they're ok. Once you leave there, you'll feel different. Life will hit you in the face and thoughts will race, but it'll humble you, which is a feeling you may have not felt before;-). See me, I always was in the forest, hiking in blizzards, rain, hurricanes, I love the forest. I also love legends of the forests around america, well being obsessed with all that and blinded by addiction, I realize something, why can't I have a career, hobby and home in the forest?!!! My dreams became my goals, but they weren't dreams during using, they were just cool thoughts. Mind you I didn't use subs after 3 days withdrawal. Only used em 2 times and the rest i had to step out into the world!! You can do this!! Are you doing ok?!!

If you are not told there is a higher chance that you won't become mentally addicted. The doctor probably thought that if you just used it long enough to get of the opoids you wouldn't become addicted. The mental addiction is the hardest part. It is what will tell you "I don't feel good because I don't have it. I need it." I'll tell you in my opinion what the best thing you might want to take action against this is. Because I know gabapentin. STOP all of your research about it. Forget about the things you have already learned. Do whatever you can to put the info out of you mind. Dumb it down. I know it's hard but don't over analyze it all. Just let it be. Go to the doctor and tell him you want a taper for gabapentin. If he offers a "comfort med" I wouldn't take it. Addiction is one of the reasons people have lost so much faith in medicine and doctor's. Chris from the rewards soul said in one of his videos that when he was in recovery and actually wanted to stay sober. The doctor prescribed him opioids and narcotic medication when he told the receptionist that signed him in. He was given to bracelet signifying that he was an addict and the other signifying that he was in recovery. When he was admitted into a room he told the nurses and the doctor the same thing. When he went to leave the hospital the prescriptions he was given was for narcotic medication. Not all doctors are like this though. There are doctors that do have respect. There are also doctors that just care about growing their bank account and pushing as many pills as they can. That's why they say that we are responsible for our own recovery. In our dealings with doctors we can decide what to take and what not to take. Because even if you tell them all that and they still give you something and you take it it could mess up what you have going on. There is no way I would expect you to know this. You are fresh out of the gate. I would recommend that you also look up the pamphlet from na called in "times of sickness." I'm pretty sure that you can find it online. It is very helpful. I have had many friends get tripped up on gabapentin. It's a nerve pills that can also affect your moods in a positive way. Because of this medicine I have been so many people relapse. They will start taking it will be fine. The doctor will either cut them off of it or they will try to stop taking it or something like that and they relapse. But it's because they're either not taking it as their intended to or they stay on the medication too long. Also they use the medications but don't learn any real coping tools that are to be used in place of them. You are through the worst of it. I promise you. You are better off on a non narcotic medication. I my state the consider gabapentin as a narcotic and the place that I go to receive counseling will not prescribe it or obviously won't let you have it in your system if you don't have a prescription from another doctor. Also I want to know what area you live in. I'm guessing Maine? But let me know.

Thank you so very much, for your thoughtful comment and advice. (I live in upstate N.Y.) I plan on talking to my doctor about tapering me off, slowly. Because I want my brain to have the best chance to heal, from 13 years of opiate abuse, and I don't think Gabapentin is helpful for that. @@TheseFourWalls That sounds like a very good plan. Always talk to your doctor of course. Being honest with a doctor is very important for us to do. It also can be especially hard for us. I didn't mean to overwhelm you in any way. I know you will hear it In the rooms about dumbing it down and making it as simple as possible. It really helps. Sometime when researching something so much we set our brains up to go in a million different directions. I live in Kentucky and I attend a counseling service tailored to rehabilitation from addiction. It really helps to learn, to talk things out, plan and have people to help hold you accountable. But I realize with the agoraphobia that you face that isn't an option for you right now. But attending a physical support group can really help you to open up and step out of your comfort zone. Something none of us love to do. But all in good time I think it might be beneficial. Personally it gives me something to look forward to. To get out, see and converse with my friends and help me deal with situations that I need help on. I have definitely been anti-social and of course I am very awkward. Social situations are extremely challenging for me. Alot of times I find them to be excruciating. Im also wondering if for you the agoraphobia came before the drugs and was worsened by use. Or if it was purely manifested by use? But with anything practice makes things so much easier. All in good time of course with a smooth easy transition. The best way to make a difference is to get out there and get your hands dirty. But I highly admire you for taking this on here with KZbin. We need more of this here. You are very brave and I am very proud of you. Every person on this planet can make a difference and it is so heartwarming to see you do it in this way. Keep coming back. We need you.

@@patcruise1323 You didn't overwhelm me at all, I thoroughly enjoy everyone's advice and input! Thank you for your comments. To answer your question, I firmly believe the pills caused my social anxiety to become full blown agoraphobia. Before I started taking pills, I was social, I visited people regularly. Ran all my own errands. Everything. It was about 5 or 6 years into the addiction - when I was 28 - that I started having panic attacks every single time I'd step out the front door. Over the past couple years, through working with an in-house therapist, I've been able to broaden my world a bit. I can go get my mail somedays, on my own. I can go to the store somedays, IF I'm with someone I trust. And these are things that, a couple years ago, were impossible for me. But eventually I'd love to be able to go to physical meetings, and think they'd be more beneficial. Thanks for your supportive comments. 😊✌

@@TheseFourWalls Ok. Yes I definitely found the same issue with myself. For me the drug use made me extremely nervous, anxious and anti-social. It wasn't until I got into recovery that I realized that the reason I was so anxious and anti-social when around people was because I didn't want them to see behind the mask. I was afraid I would be found out in some way or another. I was afraid that are there is one discover she's not normal. (As if there is such a thing) There is something wrong with her. Just like with eye contact. For a very long time I could not look anyone in the eye when I'm speaking to them for more than just a second or two. Eye contact with very few and far between. My disease wanted me all to itself, sitting in a dark room alone and unlovable. It wanted me to believe that I was being damaged beyond repair. It made me fear confessing or asking for help. that is what is so dangerous about this disease. It wants to keep you isolated and completely dependent. But coming off of the drugs and working on myself helped me get over the shame from my past and I didnt have to hide anymore. Of course that all took time. Growing up with emotionally abusive father who also happened to be a quote functioning alcoholic really always made me feel like I was less than. Even before my drug use. Then you add my drug use on top of it and with my drug of choice I was not able to function. In any fashion. Unless I had it. So that added to the feeling of feeling less than. I felt like the black sheep. The outcast. The one that you looked to as the failure. And so I set out to prove myself right. I had zero confidence in myself. It took a lot of positive self-affirmations self-care and positive self-talk to train my brain into realizing I'm a person. That I make mistakes. But I am human. That I deserve to love myself and to let myself be loved by others. I value myself today. That is what recovery has given me. I guarantee you if you give it a little bit of time and self-discovery and self-love that you will come away from all of this ready to face the world. It takes work but if you put in that work, those feelings will diminish greatly if not completely disappearing altogether. Just start by telling yourself every day that you're worth it. You are worth everything that this life and these people that you can have relationships with, have to offer. 💗💗💗💗

@detroit baby - I was on about 1800 to 2400 Mgs a day for about 6 months, and my withdrawal lasted about 12-14 days. (If possible, you want to try to wean yourself down a bit.) But hopefully all is well, and you're doing better now. Be proud of yourself for every little victory, big or small. And don't be hard on yourself if your recovery looks different from someone else's... We are all on the same journey (if the destination is soberity) but no two paths are exactly alike. I am a opiate addict and I am on Gabapentin. I don't do opiates anymore but now I'm stuck on Gabapentin. I have to say this that coming off Gaba is far worse than opiates. It took two weeks to feel better after stopping opiates and it was very painful for me as I had every symptom the worst being insomnia and RLS. I tried cold turkey with Gabapentin and after just 3 days I was out of my mind with all the symptoms of opiate withdrawals but much more severe in intensity. I also had blurred vision, very rapid heart rate, and terrible thought that frankly scared the living shit out of me. I had to throw in the towel and take Gaba again which left me in tears feeling trapped for life. I am now going to try water titration tapering which will take probably anywhere from 6 months to 18 months. Cold turkey is very dangerous with Gaba and I'm just saying you don't have to have that hellish experience if you are patient enough to taper over a very long time period. Stay safe guys:)

I did the same. Only I used pregabalin (Lyrica) instead of gabapentin. I felt when taking the nerve meds you only had to use very tiny amounts of sub. I felt they potentiated each other. So using the smallest amounts of each is the trick. Try doing so while away from work if you can because its much easier chilling detoxing than it is at work where your anxiety/agitation will rise and cause you to break.

All I know is that 2 years into my addiction I was on high doses of gaba and my family and friends saw my light go out. My kids were real small when I came off. I don't recommend doing what I did. I didn't taper and it was personally horrific for me. The gaba benefits didn't outweigh the risk. I thought it was just me being depressed and didn't believe anyone that was like whoa something is way wrong with you on this medication. Not saying its the case for everybody but like you said if you research the drug you'll figure it out real quick why it may not be a god send for everyone with chronic pain who takes it.

I couldn't agree with you more, and that's what I was hoping to get across... To just do your research, cuz it's far from a perfect fit, for many. The brain heals through influence.
