I love how respectful he is to singers. He could just be like "well Im a teacher so I know what I'm doing. you don't" but hes not. He really understands what being a singer and a voice coach is really all about. I sing Broadway so belting is something that comes easily to me, and that's not the case for all people and Tristan really understands that.

Also people who comment on these videos saying he’s too nice to the people he critiques are totally wrong. I’m a music teacher and the only way to teach effectively is to offer constructive criticism and support. If you insult and discourage someone they’ll never have the confidence to progress. There’s no need to be nasty to help someone to get better.
@cold.raviolis
@cold.raviolis 5 жыл бұрын
Yes!!!! This is so important for whatever someone is teaching. It's easier for the brain to learn with positive experiences and connect the advice to what you're doing. When a teacher is nasty the student can't only get discouraged but the brain also tries to store that memory far back in your mind along with the advice that would have been attached to that.

In my opinion, I think she's just shouting in the rhythm. Her voice isn't 'tamed' and is wobbly. She's trying to cover that up with the loudness She's trying to hit notes that are out of her vocal range
@angelinemaria4936
@angelinemaria4936 3 жыл бұрын
Nope, you can go out of your "vocal range" and still sound good. If you practise it. Just because someone tells you your this, you can always go out your comfort zone, and hit those notes just with some work. The big reasons that gabbies is off is because she's making it too loud, she can make it to a moderate volume and it would sound better and still be what she was going for, which was a edgy dark thing. She just needs more training.

I honestly believe there is improvement. Everyone is hating on her and yes, she does have a bit too much self confidence for my liking but Tristan’s coaching has definitely helped her improve and by a lot. Her singing sounded quite uncomfortable and I was faxed by how many people still cheered for her in that concert video, but as I can see, she’s improved. Most people are just bashing on her saying her voice is bad, however, despite the fact that it may seem true to you, it really isn’t. Everyone has their preference and perhaps you don’t like her voice because you don’t like her confidence. I’m not trying to be rude, pLEASE do not bash me in the comments, I get discouraged easily and Gabbie might too. I advise you to keep your negative comments to yourself, she seems quite dedicated to singing. I sometimes believe I’m average at singing but sometimes I’ll record it and scowl in disgust, deleting it right away. Please keep in mind that I do not watch Gabbie at all and only have heard a flew clips. Yes, perhaps I shouldn’t get a say in this but I find it very upsetting to know most of you are bringing her down. Just because she’s pretty popular, doesn’t mean she won’t see your rude comments time to time. Yes, self confidence could be something she portrays too much, but as someone who struggles with confidence myself, I do hope you refrain from such comments :(

I do think she has singing ability, she's definitely not as good as she claims to be. Girl compared herself to Rihanna and Sia and believe even Beyonce. She is most definitely not on their level or she would've hit that note with no problem. Her new song sounds really good, that's the voice she should be using.
@GeekedOutNeckbeard
@GeekedOutNeckbeard 5 жыл бұрын
Her fans are cheering cause... What else are they going to do? Boo her and make her feel like absolute trash? Nah. They cheered cause they are seeing her live and in person singing. And objectively her voice isn't as good as almost any other singer out there currently. While she IS still learning, she can't go on comparing herself to the big voices in the industry when she still sounds like a nail on a chalkboard. She can hit 1 or 2 notes, but so can you, so can I, and every other person. She can't be consistent, and she is trying to hit notes and do pitches that ADVANCED singers do and execute properly. Or some just have natural talent. Billie has, what I assume, is natural talent, just seems to know what to do and when to do it. Or she studied a LOT and figured it out. Either way, she was 15 when she hit it. Because she can't be consistent with her singing, she is, therefore, bad by all accounts. She shouldn't be selling songs or albums until her voice is properly refined. Albeit, mumble rappers and whatnot sell tons so who tf an I to say anything.

I think it was on purpose tho. The recorded version has the very same scream. She wants to portray that agony, which smooth, nasally belting doesn't necessarily do. I just don't think emotion is typically depicted using screams in most modern music, which is why people are saying she can't sing, when in reality she does have that technique. My Chemical Romance did it all the time, especially in songs such as "Teenagers". She does know where to place her voice to get that "clean" belting sound, but she choses not to.

Most KZbinrs do it because they think they could easily break into the music industry without having any talent. Gabbie on the other hand has said on multiple occasions that she has wanted to do music for a long time but never thought she could do it, KZbin happened on accident for her, she made a song as a promotion for her book and it did way better then she expected, she then started trying to do more but wasn't taking it fully seriously, then she went through some tough times that gave her a wake up call, now she is taking it seriously and taking care of her voice. She has made some mistakes like this genius interview and that one live performance of outloud. I honestly really like her voice (when she takes care of it) and i hope she breaks past the typical "youtubers cant sing" thing, shes good yes but i truly believe she can be great

Also, I think you’re criticism was fair and to the point. You said it as it is and I like that ❤️

@@angelinemaria4936 Yeah, gabbie hanna shows potential, and there are youtubers who are actually good artists and singers (e.g. Niki and Gabbie). But many just make songs and raps for a quick bit of cash, using the fame theyve already got to make it somehow work. Like, if youre going to produce music, either learn how to sing, or learn how to sing well enough and make up for the lack of vocal talent by excellent musicality and songwriting. However, i dont believe people need to recieve the level of hate they do get for producing music. The people in the comments and on social media also need to kearn how to approach criticism, and not spam youtubers who make crap music with hate, because no matter how mad their song was, that much hate is damaging.

It's actually quite insightful what Tristan says about the genius interview. When she forces out the "ster" in Monster you can hear how the mic changes... There's suddenly a lot more "room sound" she probably clipped the lav mic. The sound guy probably was not expecting that sudden change in volume.

I mean you can hear the audio issue. I get that genius can do whatever they want, but the fact they don't have equipment that can handle this is ridiculous. It's literally their job. They should be embarrassed with the quality of their production. It reflects bad on them too.
@tristanparedes
@tristanparedes 5 жыл бұрын
I agree. It's not even that difficult of an issue to resolve just turn the gain down on the microphone or use a microphone that works. Maybe I'll make a separate video on that aha

most probably they have quality equipment already, it's just that they don't know how to control them they could have easily put on a compressor between the incoming signal and the recording track, that would have easily fixed the distortion

It sounds like the loud part at Monster, the sound guys made it louder when they noticed she was louder. Do you hear it? It almost echoes. Some fault should be on the sound guys, that's what they are there for too, and I come from a music background too (more musician than singer)
@edengatsby

Aren’t we all aware of this? That she blew the mic out so a different mic picked it up?
@chickenx777
@chickenx777 5 жыл бұрын
they used the overhead mic for everything else and the scream part was probably the camera mic or something. at least that's what she said. she said she was afraid that the microphone couldn't handle it, because it failed with some other singer before
