Bought my first dirt bike 8 months ago and just rode my first dirt trails. All of big Ben national park. Used all Gabe taught you and only had to dab once in all 80 miles of riding. About 50yards of 5" deep sand and gravel. Oh my bike is an xr650l with 50/50 tires and I'm 65 and disabled (no knees). Had a blast planning my next trip

Right on man, i had a couple smaller 4 stroke bikes as a kid, i got a bike licence and dual sport yamaha about 9 years ago, started out slow on easy stuff of course, and i guess developed the same sort of habits gabes teaching tyler, the balls of the feet and tank gripping is key, pretty obvious to want to develope this habit to these guys but i didn't ride with anyone, glad i had some good habits. the "athletic stance" i developed on a particular easy trail piece and then tended to use it all the time off road. glad to hear about others who just wanted to ride off road and did it. edit seconds afterwards, i wish i'd seen this video 8 or 9 years ago.

The real protagonist of this video is the location. I’m so jealous of you people! Living next to a dirt bike playground... man I’m so sad with my 390duke going around Rome... I’m only happy when I hit bumpy cobblestones and I take advantage of the dirt bike like riding position so I can stand up on those pegs and pretend I’m out there in the wild
@joethompson2972 жыл бұрын
After riding mountain bikes for years, there are so many similarities to dirt bike riding. Instead of "athletic position", MTB it's the "attack position", "prairie dog" is the "ready position". With dirt bikes, you are coordinating your clutch and throttle, in MTB, you are coordinating your pedal strokes and wheel lifts. In the end, it's all about balance and coordinating of bike and body.. Great video!
@jessd19525 жыл бұрын
This is really great stuff for people like me who learnt on our own with zero track experience.
@Dinkymod7 жыл бұрын
Having the balls of my feet on the pegs is what I'm used to from sportbike riding. Track days taught me to keep my feet that way. Would be weird to me to do it another way. Interesting how other folks coming from different riding backgrounds get different habits!

Yeah for sure! I just did what I thought was comfortable... but I can tell you that even from a little ride yesterday I did a 5 foot drop and if I hadn't been on my toes I think I would have really been hurt!

Great video. Lots of different challenges on that terrain. I ride a lot in the forest and one for the trickiest obstackes is the diaganol log. You get one wheel over it and the back wheel slews sideways. Even wrose when it's wet.

I rode a mountain bike for many years prior to getting on a motorcycle. If you ride a mountain bike down a mountain fast, you have no choice but to do the things described in this video, or you will most certainly fall. Motorcycles are much heavier than a mountain bike, but we're still talking about two wheels--lots of similarities.

Great video. It's really easy to fall into bad habits. Squeezing the bike will make sand riding fun. Squeezing the bike with your knees puts exactly 50/50 weight distribution on the pegs which causes stability/ enables more speed.

GREAT VID! I never stuck my foot out like that. It always seemed silly. It never occurred to me that my leg/foot/boot had weight and I could quickly and easily move the bikes center of gravity forward and change the traction on the front tire. This is much better than leaning over the handlebars to do the same thing when a relatively small CG change is needed. I have always used the balls of my feet on the pegs. When I was a kid, I rode everywhere with my toes drooping......Until I hooked a toe on a tree root and endo'd my ass. Since then, balls of the feet on the pegs. Even during my Harley days. Speaking of Harleys....My first three Harleys were kick start bikes. Most guys learned to use the ball of their foot on that slippery rubber kicker pedal or have their foot slip off the pedal forward on the downstroke and flatfoot stomp the ground just in time to have the kicker pedal kickback into the back of the leg......Excessive misery! Perfect agony! Friends rolling on the ground laughing! EveRide, Thanks! I will be watching this vid over......and over.
