It only needs to be said that Podgorica is a city that was literally burned to the ground during the Second World War. It was bombed by the Italians, the Germans, and finally the Allies, with a civil war between the Royalists and the Communists that was brutal. So very little remains of the old architecture. Of course, the real and old Montenegrin capital is Cetinje, until 1946. On the other hand, one of the good things is the city's location, a 40-minute drive from the sea and half an hour from beautiful mountains.

14:30 My family visited Podgorica in December 2024. I must say that the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ was most impressive. The frescoes were stunning! Almost unbelievable to have such a beautiful church in the middle of an otherwise colorless city.
@Ojstra5 ай бұрын
Well, in Podgorica communist apartments are surely not impressive (looks like Chisinau and Minsk), but this Orthodox Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ looks simply amazing, especially inside (simply wow). Tours of the country mainly skip Podgorica, so thanks for showing us this city. As for history, after the Tito-Stalin split in 1948, Yugoslavia searched for its allies outside blocs and finally founded the Non-Aligned Movement in 1961 in Belgrade (the third world power that opposed both Western and Eastern Bloc although traded with both) - there Yugoslavia's main allies were especially Nasser from Egypt and Nehru from India although there were also Nkrumah from Ghana, Sukarno from Indonesia and (Rastafarian Messiah) Haile Selassie from Ethiopia. Even famous football (soccer) player Didier Drogba from Ivory Coast was nicknamed Tito by his mother as Tito was very admired in Africa once.

The situation regarding accommodation is not like that, but a video like this can give the impression that everything is like that. This apartment where Gabrijel was accommodated is not a communist one, but a poor, private house adapted for overnight stays...In Podgorica, there are any kind of accommodation you could want and how much money you have. What many people mention is the communist architecture of Podgorica, it is about modernist architecture that was current in the world at the time and was propagated by Le Corbusie etc. and there are many examples of such buildings, from residential buildings for workers to villas for the intelligentsia and managers as well as state buildings...As for the Orthodox temple in the video, it looks interesting and powerful, but it is kitsch...As for that Orthodox Montenegrin metropolis, they had some kind of autonomy before 2020, now after 2020 their comrades from Serbia, with whom they worked against Montenegro, abolished that autonomy.The state of Montenegro gave large sums of money for the construction of that church in the hope that the then Metropolitan of the Serbian Orthodox Church, who is nominally a Montenegrin but ideologically a Serb, would be persuaded to separate from the Serbian Orthodox Church, all for the purpose of correcting the injustice of Serbia's occupation of Montenegro in 1918. Gora and abolished the state of Montenegro, the Montenegrin church, etc. The current owners of that church, the Serbian Orthodox Church, are the biggest opponents of those people who gave money, Montenegrin states, nations, Montenegrin churches, etc. How far does it go, they painted the financiers of that church on the walls i.e. the political leaders of the state at that time burn in hell. That Serbian Orthodox Church is practically a sect that instead of Christ has as its idol a Serbian historical figure from the Middle Ages. The Serbian Orthodox Church follows the fascist ideology from the Second World War and looks at the state of Montenegro, the Montenegrin nation, the language, the church, etc... With the great financial and propaganda help of Russia and Serbia, and with the help of some gullible civic parties, they managed to win the elections in 2020 and open the door to clerical-fascism. However, from the fall, things will change because their results were disastrous. and it was their goal to destroy Montenegro in all segments, but they will not succeed.

I agree with you that Podgorica is worth visiting. You have exact knowledge about history. I would like to add: Iosip Broz Tito was born in Croatia. He was president of Yugoslavia and in the meantime President of the Union of the Yugoslav Communists. Yugoslavia was not united with the East European communist countries and with the Soviet Union and pursued its own politics. The private property was allowed and the people of Yugoslavia were able to travel to the West and to work abroad. Yugoslavia had a leading role in the Organization of the Non-alignment countries.
@Ojstra5 ай бұрын
Yes, Tito was born in today's Croatia (in that time Austria-Hungary) as Croatian but his mother was Slovene and his latest, longest and most known wife Jovanka Serbian, so he, for people, also because of that personified the Yugoslav idea of "brotherhood and unity" (bratstvo i jedinstvo). And it is true, he was the only one who could keep Croatians, Serbs, Bosniaks, Montenegrins, Slovenes and Macedonians together as his successors failed dramatically. For another record, in each of 6 Yugoslav republics and 2 autonomous provinces, it was one so called Tito's town. Podgorica (as Titograd then) was one of them and represented Montenegro. Others were Drvar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Korenica (Croatia), Veles (Macedonia), Velenje (Slovenia), Užice (Serbia), Mitrovica (Kosovo) and Vrbas (Vojvodina).

8:44 The statue is of Vladimir Vysotsky. From Wikipedia, he was: "a Soviet singer-songwriter, poet, and actor who had an immense and enduring effect on Soviet culture.... In October 2004, a monument to Vysotsky was erected in the Montenegrin capital of Podgorica.... The bronze statue shows Vysotsky standing on a pedestal, with his one hand raised and the other holding a guitar. Next to the figure lies a bronze skull - a reference to Vysotsky's monumental lead performances in Shakespeare's Hamlet. On the pedestal the last lines from a poem of Vysotsky's, dedicated to Montenegro, are carved."

I did keep a record, it's all on video. 😉

Dude stop moving your hand over the microphone for the love of god. Your content is great but this sound issue is very annoying. Change your setup, get a small handle on the bottom or something.

Probably the only capital city in Europe I can think of that really hasn’t got much to offer.

Now is peak season, beaches are crowded and hotels are expensive. I'm planning to go back in September when it's a little quieter, cooler and cheaper.

@@GabrielTravelerVideos i know, but still you can find very good prices and also enjoy these islands at their prime. Once in a lifetime experience: during the fullmoon of july or august at Sarakiniko beach in Milos. Enjoy the beauty of Greece Gabriel, thanks for the amazing videos 💓 we love you, many thanks

Not a fan of Putin, but not a fan of most governments. I particularly don't like the US government system, they pretend to have democracy but you're not allowed to choose who runs for the presidency. That's why I travel and don't look at the government. Look at the people. I am heading to Pakistan in a few weeks and I also want to get to Iran plus a whole lot more. ❤

Such neglect to Nicola Tesla. Americans are sure that Tesla is name of electric car only.

When Gabriel read "stari grad" in Cyrillic in Herceg Novi some days ago (although it was helped with English translation old town below it), I started to think that he has learned Cyrillic after many visits in countries with Cyrillic alphabet, but apparently it is still long way to go and it is not the case, seen here with Nikola Tesla, yes.
@GabrielTravelerVideos5 ай бұрын
At 19:45, yeah I didn't realize that, especially since there were no dates. But no, I'm not really getting a handle on reading Cyrillic, only if it's really obvious with the same number of letters as something I recognize. Now that you mention it I can see that it says Nikola Tesla, who I also mentioned in my video of Belgrade: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2qceI2uaa-igs0

@@GabrielTravelerVideos, anyways, congratulations that you have now visited all of ex-Yugoslav countries' capitals (and even capitals of both autonomous provinces Vojvodina-Novi Sad and Priština-Kosovo) as Podgorica was last in the puzzle. How would you rate them, in term of best to worst in your opinion?

Gabriel did you know Angel Gabriel (Jibraeel in Arabic) was sent by God to Prophet Mohammad (Peace Be Upon Him) to reveal the Holy Quran. Revelation of Quran was completed in 23 years. This vlog is interesting. Good job Gabriel.
