Yeah lack of support for custom audio stuff (just wavetables at the time of release) is what held me back from trying it, because otherwise it looks like a powerhouse. I'd love to see it catch up to the new stuff.

If you still have it, you can update it to the latest firmware. It doesn't need to be a special edition MicroFreak, the original can be updated.

The updates are located in the Arturia midi control center. Just have that installed, log in , and you’ll see the updates for your machine listed on the side . Plug your microfreak into computer when doing this of course. Hope this helps

Thanks for doing this video. Is it possible to 'loop' a audio sample using either the chromatic sampler or the granular engine with the micro freak? Rather using a super long sample, I wanted to make a looped pad loop forever as long I'm holding the key.

Nvm, I was able to extend the sample by turning the "Shape" knob and crank up "Loop" breaking bad flask looking icon all the way empty to make the sample loop infinitely.

I've been interested in using Aurturia Microfreak as a Mid controller and for extra synths, but I've heard that this Machine has a few technical and electrical problems Iand 'm kinda worried about that. I'd like to pair this with the Roland Verse lab MV-1, since the Verselab has a ton of Synths I like. I wonder what's your thoughts about that and if you would recommend. I simply want more control and options for controling the Synths on the Verselab. Anyone has thoughts?

i suggest you read or look info on pro's and con's on capacitive keyboards like this synth and Buchla, and see if you have workarounds when grounding issues on your place arise against the instrument.

It doesn't, the Minifreak doesn't run the same firmware and still doesn't have any custom audio file loading as far as I'm aware

@@d3tuned378 Just turn on Unison, set voice count to 2 or 3 and use a MIDI Keyboard like the companies own Keystep to play some notes. Every other note will miss the note off. Arturia support once confirmed to me in an email that the bug does exist and they could reproduce it.

@@DCPier i prefer the microfreak keyboard, I think I only tried using a big keyboard on it once and I preferred the touch strip because you can get the effect immediately whereas aftertouch requires you to fully depress the key to activate Interesting bug. I'll have to see if it's fixed at some point

I must say there is a bit of a let down after the initial WOW! feeling and that's because it seems the entire KZbin collective has already played and ventured their opinions about software update which us, the plebs, cannot get yet. And from a demo perspective - granular is better presented with sounds which already feature pitch, timbre or formant variation, something like speech for example, as opposed to a boring kick drum-drum-drum-drumdrumdrumdrumrumrumrumrumrumrumrumumumumumdumdumdumdumdumdrumdrumdrmdrmdrmdrmdrmdrudrudrudrurururururuuUUUUUU-u-u-u-u-u-um-um-um-um-rum-rum-rum-rum-drum-drum-drum-druM-druM-DruM-DruM-DruM-DRuM-DRuM-DRUM-DRUM-DRUMM-DRUMM-DRUMMMMa-DaRUMMaa-DaRrrUuuMMaaa.... Still, ...MicroFreak aye. It is a synthesis treasure box. If they drop stereo output in version 6 update, I'm going to freak out 🤪

The updates always sound amazing in principle, but the results we see in these demos are generally very dull for me. The machine sounded most alive on Hit Grains which was poo-pooed a little. The only reason I'm hanging on to my Freak is the one or two KZbin people showing what you can do at the outer limits. Even then it may not survive the eventual release of the Behringer Roland clone.

Yes, like the other guy said -- you have to be imaginitive. There are so many things not tried in the video. Matrix settings affecting the sample. Use velocity from another keyboard to affect sample start, attack or loop points or all three etc etc
