we need a bloody Mental Health, Abuse Victims & Addictions system that brings multi-sectional professionals with such humane, leading edge and just dam sensible realizations to ensure we get a effective system & institutions grounded in this healing perspective, theories, research and practices that work. BC Women's Counselling programs all practice from this. I knew it as I always find myself grounded n real life + childhood, plus abuse, witnessing violence, experiencing unaddressed PTSD in 2 traumatized parents, 2 grandparents, one used alcohol, one women; withdrawal from both and mum, overwhelmed every moment vented her powerlessness rage on her kids. 2+2+2 DOES NOT A MONSTER MAKE OR A LOSER, BUT A COMPLEX & CONFUSED, OFTEN LOST & OVERWHELMED STRESSED OUT PERSON WISHING FOR SOMEONE TO HELP THAT GETS THEM...BUT NEVER MAKES THEM FEEL UNSAFE OR THREATENED IN ANY WAY. CAMH is another great resource full of non-medicalized oppressive practices & knowledge. It is based in empowerment using a lens on the intersection of our bio-psycho-social experiences, staged treatments ed & tools. Medicine has us labelled as pathologically traumatized where CAMH knows it is a normal reaction to overwhelming situations where no safety or supports was accessible.

A million more of his ilk, and we might be able to turn this terrible mess around. But such wisdom and compassion is so, so rare these days. Still, it's a great comfort to hear him speak (even if meeting the man himself could never happen for the likes of me). Thank you for the upload :-)

I'm diagnosed with schizophrenia, and here en Denmark, the doctors still support the dopamin hypothesis. The medicine makes it worse, it makes me isolated, wich also makes it worse, and I end up at the hospital. And that's the spiral. I hope something will change in that system, and hopefully soon. All the best to those who suffer, and those who are on the right path.

1:36 - 2:36 is so incredibly spot on. That is our society in a nutshell. The majority may scoff, but the majority are abnormally "normal". He's a brilliant man and, quite clearly, a very kind & humble one as well. A very rare combination!

This is a very intelligent man! Depression is in all of us and no-one cares for the elderly, it has always been my dream to make a difference for people with needs especially emotionally. Older people are left in their own worlds and often neglected and forgotten! We are a sick society when we do not look after them! Regarding depression we are people who feel deeply about others and the world around us! We live in a tough world and we are all getting to that lonely place called old age! Come on society think!!!

I started hearing evil voices telling me to hang myself from years of daily drink and drugs abuse, i ended up in a pit of depression in a clinic. I didn't believe in God beforehand but as the voices were real and evil i instantly started praying to God out of fear . My commitment: I confess to God that I am a sinner .I believe that the Lord Jesus christ died for my sins on the cross. I believe that God raised him from the dead. I now repent of my sins. I receive him as my saviour. I confess him as Lord. ( I haven't drank nor took drugs in almost 2 years, Glory to God. ) If you confess with your mouth "Jesus is Lord " and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead you will be saved . God bless you.

I take his point about villagers in developing countries having stronger emotional connections with each other, arising from mutual necessity and low mobility. But that's not to say that consumerism won't arise among those same villagers given the opportunity, as I think it is doing now. Our economic system does *not* say that "what matters is not who are but how you are valued by others" (2:03). This is pure interpretation on Gabor's part. Not all Westerners are consumerists: we created hippy culture and the New Age. More and more of us are learning that consumerism doesn't bring peace and happiness. In the meantime, capitalism has served us in many ways that are not considered here -- for instance, we are less likely to suffer famine and disease. So let's not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Let's acknowledge that spirituality is neither Marxist nor capitalist.

Milkica Mares Dr Maté is not a fan of Jordan Peterson; a guy who supports patriarchal attitudes; climate change denial and supports the very economic system that Maté is criticizing. There is a video of Maté on KZbin where he talks about Peterson. In short, he doesn't have a very high opinion of him.

He looks like a former addict
@S4vh55hdci5 жыл бұрын
Yes. He spoke about his addiction to consuming and purchasing compact classical CDs and his talk on Ted.com. The process for him was just as exhausting as it is for any other addiction whether it be substance-abuse, or any other behavioral addiction. Absolutely exhausting to maintain behavior that leads nowhere but farther from ourselves stead of stopping the addiction which is about running away from who we truly are and doing it on and on and on for years because trauma prevents us from going to that deeper place of sitting still and seeing that we are, and ultimately is that we are all good people. The trauma, and a capitalistic culture and the way it's become which is traumatizing in itself makes this past extremely difficult for all of us. And then pop on top of it substances like alcohol or crystal meth and you have a recipe for disaster and moving in this process. . It's a living hell living that way on and on for years. What he does Sobrio only has personalizes it is experienced and relates to what he did or didn't get in childhood because of his own mothers experience growing in Nazi Germany. The most important thing is besides how tired he feels he's able to tell this message and he tells it because of his own struggle and suffering that's the beauty of it.
