I would like to be a crime victim advocate. I've been having trouble trying to figure out what I should major in to do that. Seems like Social Work is fitting. Thank you for your hard work and what you do for people. 🙏🏼

I agree, I think it is important to know your niche. I feel people don't respect the profession. When I tell people in a social work, it's like an akward "ohh".

I felt the same way. My advice to you (if you don’t mind) would be - take your time. Move at a pace the works for you no matter how long it takes. Determination and faith will carry you far (in my case). I ended up doing better than I could have ever possibly imagined. I’m sure the same will be for you. Best wishes to you! 🙏🏾

I found my niche and I am able to articulate my long-term goals (creating stable households/economic mobility/investment); however, the challenge I face is breaking into my niche at the entry-level when most projects are at a high-level complexity.

A video on niche’s for introverts vs. extroverts would be cool. I’ve done community outreach and quickly learned that won’t be my niche. I think I prefer small groups/one on ones but we’ll see.

You are awesome Gaby! I love the way you narrate the content and hiw relatable it is. I used to listen to your videos before I joined MSW. It greatly influenced me to take up MSW. Thank you so much.

I really love this video! Your statement about desiring to be school social work resonated with me. Because I also wanted to be one and still have a passion for helping youth. But I am now aware that that field is broken...and also needs system level reform. Lol. So macro it is. While I love direct care work with students I won't be as fulfilled knowing I'm not "moving the needle." Is that also what came up for you?

Great video and valid points about specialization driving up rates for the field. My specialization is co-occuring disorders; mental health and substance use disorders. I am in my first job in the field as a residential counselor. My internships were with out patient dui counseling and adolescent counseling. Both valuable experiences. Now, my credentials are LMSW, CADC, and eventually CODP-1 (co-occuring disorders professional. ) When I was a kid I wanted to be a psychologist 😁

This really solified what I am looking to do. I am a former accessibility specialist whom went into the mental health/D&A field Admin side of things. I have this oppurtunity to get a social work degree and I still have this strong passion to advicate for people with disabilities. I also have this urge to help people in the environment I work in now. So I am combining the passions but want to do it on a more case management level rather than heavy clinical work or adminstrative side. I am so nervous about it all but I think I have a solid plan.

Hi I’m having a hard time finding my niche. I’ve always been passionate when working with young children/adolescents. I always wanted to work in a medical setting. I am not sure where to go after I obtain my BSW. I am also minoring in Psychology and Spanish to hopefully open a door to more opportunities. I definitely want to go for a MSW, and get a hold of a job that pays well and I feel comfortable in. I’ve heard about medical/clinical social workers and that really catches my attention. Any suggestions? Love your videos btw, they are very informative!

Sounds like being a children’s therapy could be a great fit! School social work also. Medical social work is a bit different but there are many opportunities for it, and well paid. But you probably wouldn’t work solely with children.

Hey, I'm at the entry level and I'm struggling yo find my niche to really know where or what part I fit the most. During my internship I worked mostly with women and children and I don't want to just assume that's my niche just because it was the one I did.I am currently planning to venture into other areas then thereafter maybe I can make an informed decision. Hope it works out

I’m not really sure about the Ohio landscape. I’d just say to be open to non traditional locations and try to think outside of the box. And If you have any professors who do macro or research, ask them for advice on locations.

I am literally in the same boat, I got a remote research internship before I started my MSW, but am somehow struggling to find any field placements for my masters that are macro related and I am in near a big city, so kinda freaking out haha. Did you end up finding anything for your placement? I am literally thinking of doing a different niche because of the lack of jobs/field placement opportunities I am finding for macro work /:
