I love this version. The HUGE brass sound at 2:10 and the way the choir carries through until the transition at 2:33 when it's just the sopranos singing. And how the violin is featured in the earlier parts. All the live versions on KZbin just don't have that balance. Beautiful.

For years I've lived a double life. In the day I do my job, I ride the bus, Roll up my sleeves with the hoi polloi. But at night I live a life of exhilaration, Of missed heartbeats and adrenaline, And, if the truth be known, A life of dubious virtue. I won't deny I've been engaged in violence, Even indulged in it. I have maimed and killed adversaries, And not merely in self defence. I have exhibited disregard for life, Limb, And property, And savoured every moment. You may not think it to look at me, But I have commanded armies, And conquered worlds. And though in achieving these things I have set morality aside, I have no regrets. For though I've led a double life At least I can say, I have lived.

I would be hard-pressed for a reply. I didn't need for The Almighty to impart a lesson regarding how brief life is. I lost my father when he was thirty-eight. I was barely ten. I lost one of my best boyhood pals a year later (in 1966). We had plans to start a band. In 1977, I lost my first fiancee to a drunk-driver. It took me from that time to Nov. 2008 to meet My Barbra Rose. I've had enough. I have resolved to live a solitary existence (as much as possible). Heaven keep you. Bon Champs -- W

lilulay That is a quote and without knowing who made such an outrageous remark I believe him to be a foolish fellow. I am not RC but believe that some of the most beautiful music in the world was composed for and by Roman Catholics. In our own meetings we do not pray with music (No, I am a Christian; NOT a Muslim) but I do love Christian music and as a boy sang in a choir. All men are brothers.
@donaldedward49518 жыл бұрын
That is a very silly thing to say. A may be fully a part of '' WESTERN CIVILIZATION" and NOT want to be part of an organized religion.
@donaldedward49518 жыл бұрын
So, you may reject the development of the telephone but your rejection will obviously make not difference to those people who own or may want to own a telephone in the future and the same applies to any other development one may wish to "reject". However the growth of atheism will I believe have an effect on the artistic works both in music and art produced by people of faith.The reasoning behind Theodore Dalrymple's statement would be interesting. Do those who quote him understand why he said that? I certainly do NOT. What developments did Theodore Dalrymple have in mind. Was he thinking of the nation-state for example. Rejection of the nation-state would result in fewer wars and perhaps more customs unnions. To a thoughtful person quoting his statement our of the blue is not helpful.
