This is my all-time favourite piece from Faure`s Requiem and I`d like to dedicate this piece to my late Aunty Stella [she passed away on my 55th birthday on the 23/6/2022], and I`m definitely miss her so much now and it won`t be the same without her. R.I.P. Stella.

Faure let the basses end the piece on the third. And we will be forever grateful for that trust. Goosebumps every time.

Nice short score for close study of the harmonies here! Thanks for posting this wonderful movement by Faure. It's been one of my favorites of his since the 1980s! Glory to Faure!!

I sang this in 2001 at GMU as a 1st tenor ... Leonard Slatkin conducted the final performance. We were all amazed how much greater we could be, with a top notch conductor aboard.

I adore this with the full orchestra and organ, but for some reason, now that I have had the privilege of hearing multiple interpretations of this, I find that I much prefer versions that use female voices in the soprano and alto parts, rather than this version, with an all-male choir. Boy sopranos have beautiful voices, but they lack the color and richness an adult female singer can achieve, I think.
@DrChrisF6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, particularly in the upper register
@zeldalawrence-curran1366 жыл бұрын
Fauré is apparently on record as saying that the soprano parts should be sung by 'ladies with some experience'...

I actually found this version after the chamber choir at my all girls school sang it (in Canterbury cathedral, which made the performance even more beautiful), so I looked it up. I definitely agree, it sounds far better with a female choir.

A écouter religieusement pour les accords inouïs et crescendo de ces phrases musicales qui ont dû demander à leur compositeurs de les sortir du tréfonds de son âme endeuillée. Sublime !

Anyway, unfortunately sopranos are a beat behind or dragging too long on: "...Lux eterna..." and on the last part at: "Requiem eternam donna eis Domine...". Sorry, but I count. Voices are beautiful!

Ana I It's clearly rubato. Blame the conductor if you must as it isn't written but I've always felt that some rubato there is justified both in terms of the music and the meaning of the words (a light in the darkness).

Ana I I’m agree,idiot!

Do you know what "Lux Aeterna" means? Eternal light. That's normal for the conductor to make it last soooo long. Just try to make relationship between words and music!
