Gabriel Wyner is the author of Fluent Forever, the best book on language learning that we've ever read. He's an author, polyglot, former profesional opera singer, has degrees in mechanical engineering and opera, and he successfully funded a series of pronunciation trainers on kickstarter.com.
His ideas on language learning have really changed the way that we are approaching learning spanish. Focusing more on pronunciation and way less on translations. This is the book we wish we had before we spent hundreds of dollars a Rosetta Stone with the idea of learning Spanish before going to South America.

Do not say Holland to a Dutch person, even though it's easier than saying the Netherlands. (It's the same as saying California for the whole USA, or Ontario instead of Canada) They find it disrespectful...even if they don't let you know. Just giving you a heads up.

Approach sounds good. So I subscribed to his app. Then needed to cancel it. Wyner's company (Fluent-Forever) won't allow me to disconnect their auto-debit from my bank account. Their "help" directions on how to unsub don't work. And nobody there will respond to my emails. Right now I have a monthly involuntary drain from my bank account to his. Not cool. The best explanation in the world doesn't justify his misuse of our favorable reactions to it

No they don't, have you witnessed a kid growing up?, At what age can you have a very basic conversation with a kid? (not just random words) but a simple basic conversation, the age is 6 or 8, granted they can understand orders way before that, and understand in general but not everything, eventually responding back with very basic sentences but a real basic conversation up to the age of 6-9 and that even when they have a tutor 24x7 (adults like parents), if an adult would have that in 1-2 years he will master the language
