When Gabrielle didn't even think twice about what she was doing because she wanted to protect Xena.. It was just so powerful to see her transition to this, but you could also tell how Xena wanted her to stay pure/true to herself on her journey. Xena didn't want that life for Gabrielle. She knew how much her killing someone would weigh on her conscience. Probably one of the saddest episodes, but also one of my favorite scenes from the series.

Everything about this scene was shocking, violent and beautiful. The gong when the chakram hits Xena is perfect and STILL gives me goosebumps. The music, the way she falls. I remember watching while recording it on VHS and then rewinding this scene about a billion times. Gabrielle being activated into full kill mode was glorious, sad and frightening. The frightening part is how good she was at killing. That's a scary thing to realize about yourself.

@@kyleday5026 Apparently, Xena started as a smaller spinoff series to Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. They had weaker cameras and overall equipment. However, ratings started rising and eventually it surpassed Hercules sometime during season 2 and it was the leading show from then on. I guess at that point they decided to invest more in the show and upgrade the production value which made later seasons look much better.

Oh my goodness, this scene will and forever be one of my favorites from the show. It stirred so many feelings and emotions the first time I saw it at age 13, and the emotions were rampant. The build up with the music when you see Callisto holding the chackram, angrily looking at Xena about to get away, I cant even describe how I felt when she throws it, ricochets, and breaks on Xena's back with that bell toll sound. I just remember my eyes tearing up. And when Gabrielle starts stabbing that guy at the end and that sound almost like an exhale that washes over her as she looks at the bloody dagger and drops it gave me such chills.. such an intense scene.

When I watched this series this particular scene gave me the chills . Gabrielle was trying to be a pacifist and fight evil with love, she swore never to fight again,after she killed a woman she didn't mean to kill, Gabrielle then followed a mentor by the name of Eli who was a Jesus like figure he taught her how to live her life in peace and love, but she had to fight save xena's life this was an amazing scene and my favorite one out of the whole series.

This is chilling, can't say anymore about it. They say the central question of Xena Warrior Princess is redemption, it is for the character of Xena. But the central question here and for the entire show, falls on the character of Gabrielle. From beginning to end is the christian philosophy: forgive your enemies. Xena loves the way Gabrielle is: that is the closest Xena got to say "I love you, Gabrielle", she admires the pacifist ways and soul of Gabrielle and that's why she cries "nooo" when she is lying on the ground watching Gabrielle becoming herself, Xena. Some comments here are so good reaching every aspect of this episode that I am not going to repeat what they say, like the music the cinematography and I would add the fine terrific work of Reneé O'Connor, Lucy Lawless and Hudson Leick. The best episode, no doubt. Thanks a lot for uploading it. Best tv series ever.

Heartbreaking😱😭 I feel like Rob Tapert owes me money for all the counseling I’ve required.😆 Seriously though, this was award-winning material. Top notch cinematography, writing, acting... They’ve taken the elements of actual Greek tragedy and put them all into a format viewers can get into. I appreciate that none of this was done for shock value, but instead added to the story arc of all the characters...Xena’s unrelenting hatred for Caesar and living the code of the warrior to the bitter end, Gabrielle’s questioning of her path/realizing that her love for Xena is stronger than an idealistic way of living, and poor Callisto still wandering eternity, lost, confused and without the peace she so desperately needed. This sets up the entire movement towards Xena balancing her good and bad parts, Gabrielle finding that peace isn’t about being an empty vessel but instead finding peace with her own good/bad parts, and potentially sets up the possibility of Callisto finally being redeemed. Epic pinnacle moment of Xena that heralded character changes even more far reaching than the Twilight of the Gods arc. Bravo!💐

The creators of the show originally wanted to give Xena a new weapon after the Chakram was destroyed but they changed their minds and instead they had the Chakram repaired and upgraded.

@@samhart4205 truly this is the moment Xena and Callisto's karmic affinity starts unleashing itself; just like Xena and Gabrielle were meant to stand by each other's side for eternity, Xena and Callisto were meant to be linked to each other forever. Xena switched positions with Callisto between Hell and Heaven and Callisto gave Xena a baby (Eve). And we also have Gabrielle fulfilling her on purpose by trying to save Xena by force as well as forgiving Callisto. Xena, Gabrielle and Callisto, each, were always tormented by the actions of an outsider and realized fighting for a better tomorrow is the only option remaining-it should have been, because that way, they were surely true to their convictions! When Gabrielle chose to step away from fighting, Xena's inner flame got tarnished as if Xena was the one who was always wrong: and Gabrielle's flurry of attacks in this video proves she was afraid of being a warrior-a warrior who knows from where to begin and where to end things. I'm not saying it's Gabrielle's fault they got captured, because it's not. I'm saying that each one's internal and emotional breakthrough led them to this and the broken chakram is the key to the new world they wanted to live in.

I’m rewatching the show and I realize in the episode The Convert (3 episodes before this one), Xena gets hurt in a fight and Gabrielle tries to run to help her but was stopped by Najara. I think that foreshadows her losing it in this episode. Gabrielle even says she realizes that in some situations, when someone shoves you, you may have no option but to shove back.

The way that Chakram broken is also amazing. The Chakram is Xena's weapon (it was created for her) and when it was used against her it broke. Think about we see the Chakram cut through anything even bounce of weapons created by gods and it is never been broken but when it hit Xena's spine it broken because it was used against its owner.

At some point in this fight, Gabrielle's desire to save her lover turns into utter rage and despair at the fact that she's powerless to do anything about Xena's spine. It's like a person pounding their fist on a table in defeat...except in this case, the pounding fists were stabs and headbutts.

Here, she went full berserker, true. But even untrained, in S1, after Callisto's poison dart she fought for Xena, then S2, I think, she fought off those trying to take Xena's body. But this scene, and this ep, is with me always. The same love that inspired this fierceness, was displayed in the tenderness of her holding Xena's broken body in the next scene. The Power of this episode!

This is one of the scenes in the series that I'd love to show to some people out there who constantly dismiss Xena as just a "cheesy action show" to show them how great the show can do serious drama. Its one of the most powerful sequences in series television and everything is on point - the performances of Renee, Lucy and Hudson, the direction, Joseph LoDuca's great music. I constantly wish that this series would be held as in high regard as for instance Buffy The Vampire Slayer is by the modern audience, it preceded Buffy and gave that show more of a chance to be successful and created tropes that Buffy continued on with. I wish online reactors would give it a serious shot. Everyone who hasn't yet watched this great series needs to asap.
