Tanukis are bear-dogs native to Japan. They are common characters in folk tales. In the story of Kachi-Kachi Mountain, he is the villain.

Gacharic Spin used/referenced five folk tales/mythological figures in the song: Monkey and Crab Kachi Kachi Yama (Tanuki) Issun Boshi Momotaro Kintaro My first listen to the song lasted around two hours, including a crash course on Japanese folklore and Japanese corporate work culture 😳 I dont dare to imagine how much work they put into the lyrics to bring it all together like that... 😵💫 The song sounds very upbeat, and it's easy to miss that it's deeply reflective on social issues and tradition.

A tanuki is a Japanese raccoon dog (that's how wikipedia calls it), it litteraly looks like a cross between a raccoon and a dog. It's used a lot in Japanese stories/folklore from my understanding and this whole track actually comes from a folklore story. Wikipedia has a huge page on the story actually (Kachi-kachi Yama). Also, the cover of Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES has Mario in a tanuki costume, although most people in the West probably call it a raccoon.

It's a song about hostility and hatred on social media, with lots of references to folk tales.
