Yes. Nice introduction. But you have to love the irony of @2:50 "...avoiding the intellectual sins of the past", given that the concept of "sin" itself is a pre-modern Judeo-Christian idea. In short, it's THE idea that ALL modern thinkers UNANIMOUSLY rejected as archaic, and even barbaric, which of course it is.

What is the relation of Gadamers hermeneutics and the contemporary strains of philosophical and psychological constructivism? Was there ever a direct confrontation or did these developments/schoos ever exange their ideas and concepts? Kant didn't base his deontological ethics on taste and thus make them "very subjective". He based his ethics on reason and the only thing "subjective" about it is that anyone can only use his/her own reason and is only obliged to perfect him-/herself. Kant uses "subjective" a bit different than her

Really, this is a short biographical presentation. Here; I find nothing objectionable. However, in terms of understanding his philosophical works -most notably in Truth and Method () or the collection of essays , there is no meaningful discussion or exegesis here: which would have been difficult in any case. Yet, it seems to me that even the opening lines of the presentation seem to go awry: Gadamer's notion of hermenutics is radical, quite literally in that it seeks to 'go to the root,' and difficult. It's untrue to say that it is the "standard standard account of truth and meaning in the humanities," -certainly not in terms of practice; though it may be true to say that his work is given lip service by most academics in literature, some in law (notably Dworkin) and other disciplines in the humanities. I leave out philosophy, since many philosophers who engage his thought do, in fact, give it more than lip service and are able to understand that radicality. I am afraid, in my opinion, Dr. Frazier does not.
