Update: My connection returned to normal speeds after around 24 hours. I'm now back to 100Mbps off-peak and ~80Mbps during peak hours. So I guess the 10Mbps throttle isn't permanent, but dependent on how you use the network.

Nice! Good to know. I think, DITO did mention about their FUP but wasn't clear about this throttling unlike in Globe. DITO better be doing that temporary speed throttling, cuz, I'm given to understand that DITO, per NTC's auditing/requirement, has to commit to a 27Mbps DL speed. (that's what I've read in our forum)
@atalakeanumonarshi1293 жыл бұрын
It looks like Dito has a limit of around 50 gigs or so before the FUP ( Fair Use Policy ) kicks in. Still, that’s better than my unlimited plan ( Smartfren Telecom ) where the FUP kicks in just after it reached 1GB. Also the speed is only 10Mb/s off-peak ( not limited ) so you could imagine how slow it will be if it got limited during peak hours :-/
@GadgetAddict3 жыл бұрын
Their franchise requires them to maintain a minimum speed of 27Mbps but not to give unlimited data. So I think it will be just like GOMO eventually. Where there’s no speed throttle for consumable data plans but there will be a speed throttle for the unlimited plan I guess we won’t know for sure until they announce their plans/promos

I knew someone who lives in London. He only pays 12 pounds (less than 800Php) a month for unlimited calls and texts with a 50gb data cap (speed around 200Mbps). Ergo, those two telcos are complete BS. We used to have PLDT ultera, 7Mbps, 40gb data capped @1299 monthly. And that's just internet.

Globe already created GOMO which has some great offers. Smart created Magic Data which isn't as good, but better than what they previously offered. Plus Converge, PLDT and Globe all upgraded their Fiber customers. So people are already feeling the benefits. Bad luck if you're a DSL or Postpaid customer though, because the telcos need to continue milking you, to subsidize their Fiber rollout costs.

I'm pretty sure that they (telcos in general) are positioning 5g as people's primary internet. Globe has such a product in some areas where they offer a 5g-router and unlimited 5g-based internet.
@GadgetAddict3 жыл бұрын
I don't think we should use the words "Globe" and "Unlimited" in the same sentence. They have a pretty horrible track record of using that word with very low limits lol Ultimately wired-fiber will still be the best option for most people. But only if their area has it and only when the telcos fix their "no slots available" problems. Although they say they're working on upgrading DSL customers, I don't know if they're really in a rush, considering the huge premiums those customers are paying. 4G / 5G with higher limits will be a good alternative for those who can't get wired connections. I suspect it's more of a crutch for Globe / Smart since it's easier and cheaper than offering wired connections.

That makes sense my plan on my dsl was upgraded w/o me asking for it, if i upgraded my plan before that,it will cost me quite a lot. Pldt upgraded my plan for no cost at all and my internet was 15-20% faster than before and im still paying the same amount. They already knew its coming and they cant do anything about that. They're trying to do some perks to upgrade their services and cost us more and we're doomed because of the lock in contract. These telco companies finally met their match and they know its time up for them, they"ve been choking us for so long. Hmmmmm i wonder what will happen on their stocks and that i have to focus on rather on this internet its already a done deal.

I believe that this "Fair use" limiting the speed is the aftermath of having such slow internet speeds with wired broadband connection versus mobile broadband for a very long time. Ever since the release of wireless broadband connection and making it super fast versus wired broadband connection, it instilled to the masses that you should take advantage of the "Fast" broadband connection you have while you still can because your wired broadband connection speeds sucks for it's price compared to the mobile price. But now that the speeds have bumped so much that wired broadband connections are much faster than wireless mobile internet connection, the mentality is still there for the old folks and that's why "Fair use" is still a thing.
@GadgetAddict3 жыл бұрын
I think you're right, to a degree. But the problem is that a LOT of people still can't get fast wired internet. The telcos aren't in any rush to upgrade their DSL customers to Fiber. The telcos are milking their DSL customers who are paying 2-3 times as much as Fiber customers, while getting a MUCH lower speed. It's also as if the DSL customers are subsidizing the cost of the Fiber rollout. How many years now and we still hear "no slots available"

nice. next problem to solve is the cost of electricity. the country is generally low income but the cost of electricity is more than twice in most first world countries, absurd. i think the current administration has looked into that with those news of reviving the Nuclear power plant but quite awkward considering China is producing so much cheap Solar Power products and simply dump those in our country for cheaper electricity.

@@GadgetAddict this is something that they need to fix quickly, not all people use gcash or something similar. its actually much better to use Smart sim with their no expiry data compared to GOMO, with Smart, you can tell your nearest loading station what to avail and your done, with GOMO and possible DITO, there's like steps 2-5 to get it done and probably most people that is now techy enough would probably bother dealing with it. heck you cant even use the app to top-up other SIM cards which I dont see a reason why you cant do that.
