Totally agree with how good palm rests are, they make a huge difference. My ebike came with them and seat post suspension. I got the same bottle bag for mine, there is a spot for a bottle holder, but as the top tube slopes a lot it was in the way, its also good as it helps keep your drink hot/cold too. I've got the rear bag like Wondering Womble with the fold down sides - find it great for small shops, lunches/snacks and for somewhere to put an extra layer of clothing or waterproof jacket. I do like the look of that folding rucksack, must see if I can find something similar, would be good as we are planning on doing some of the Otago Rail Trail and Alps 2 Ocean here in NZ, and having an extra lightweight bag for a few extra layers etc that we can remove easily from the ebikes would be very good.

Hi John, I had a very similar tool kit and was in the same place as yours, I didn't use it much at all, when I came to use it all the tools were rusty, I cleaned them all up and covered them with an oily rag, next time I went to use them no more rust.

You can get rear shocks fitted with a lockout. My partner's ebike has one and she eventually found it to be very useful. Good ones flick in and out very quickly and you soon get used to anticipating when you need it.

John as well as the rear suspension you can get shorter cranks and pedal arms - normally the length is on the back of the pedal arm - 175 and 170 are standard but you can go as low as 165 or smaller if you go for Childs crank sets - I put 165s on mine and it made a significant improvement. You would then just need a crank extractor tool which you can get from decathlon, Hanford’s etc

I need every bit of power to the crank, hence looking for a new cassette, so reducing the length of the crank arms would be counter productive.

@@GadgetJohnI looked into that and with the right gearing the impact is negligible- there’s a good article on it on the shamano website

Fit a longer adjustable shock rather than a bar. They can lockout but if you increase the strength you will probably get what you want

Have thought about doing the great Yorkshire bike ride?? It’s 70 miles from weather t racecourse to the Brigg in filey (I’ve done it 4 times) yes E-bikes are allowed as it’s all for charity Covid killed it off BUT I’ve heard it’s being revived next year.

That tread pattern reminded me of my old Raleigh Grifter - happy memories ☺️ Great video but looks extremely fast - you take care 👍

P.s to get more ground clearance you could try and get a stiffer or longer shock, or maybe fabricate something like a leaf spring shackle hanger. Couple of decent titanium plates either side of shock top would do it and look quite 'factory' fit 🤔

Interesting stuff John, and great to see how you're modding the bike. Have you thought about a different, longer shock on the back rather than converting it to a hard tail? If you're only after an inch or two lift, that should be doable given the massive range of bikes with similar rear suspension. Just a thought.🤔 Tally ho! 👋

Hi John, with regards to the rear shock. Can you lock it out. On midprice and up bikes you can lock them or/and adjust them?

Could you go for a shorter crank to help stop the pedals grounding?
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Жыл бұрын
That would hugely affect the gearing and make the bike unusable.

I changed to a bigger bike a couple of months ago as I like to go for longer rides and in slightly rougher terrain
@Quirky_vehicle_adventures
@Quirky_vehicle_adventures Жыл бұрын
You could get a longer shock but be careful you don't change the steering geometry too much.
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Жыл бұрын
It’s the rear shock, it doesn’t have anything to do with the steering.
@Quirky_vehicle_adventures
@Quirky_vehicle_adventures Жыл бұрын
@@GadgetJohn yes but if you lift the crank further from the ground by using a longer rear shock you change the angle of the head stock therefore changing the steering geometry slightly. I've done this before due to being tall some bikes it can be ok but others can give a strange steering feel. 😁
@GadgetJohn
@GadgetJohn Жыл бұрын
I’m only stopping it dipping from the shock travel, so it won’t change it
