Hi even though it is a very good looking test probe I still admire all your DIY projects because there’s a lot to learn from there. The simplest is the pulse probe from plastic pipe tubes and piezo discs. I proved to myself that I can do it with your tutorial videos. I would like to thank you for that and I am forever grateful.

Very kind words, Adriano and much appreciated:) The DIY is also more "serviceable". I've had to replace the piezo. There's also something to be said for a quality product for $17 What I try to do on the The GADGETS Playlist is feature affordable technology, whichever way we find it.

@theGADGETSplaylist2 жыл бұрын
piezo disks have this property where they "generate" their own voltage when pressure applied upon them... you have a piezo disk in your smoke alarm...apply voltage to it and it can vibrate (noise) ... but reverse also true, if we vibrate disk then it makes voltage...

Nice job Sir! On a running exhaust waveform at idle there is NO Phase shifting. Phase shifting happens at higher rpm. You can prove this out yourself. Take an idle capture, then take idle capture with injector unplugged. The misfire event will line up with the cylinder chart. BUT... Rev up to 3000 rpm with that injector unplugged and apply the cylinder chart and it will look like the next cylinder in the firing order is misfiring, when it is not!. A 4 CYL Phase shifts the misfire 90 degrees to the right, a 6 cyl 120 degrees to the right, and an 8 cyl 90 degrees to the right. Running exhaust waveform are at best good for identifying the misfiring cylinder. To see valve events, while applying the cylinder chart,. a cranking (fuel disabled) waveform display s the most valuable diagnostic information.
@theGADGETSplaylist3 жыл бұрын
I have not done high RPM exhaust pulse tests...nor have I seen one on YT... Would you have a link to one, Paul?
@paulpaquette19613 жыл бұрын
@@theGADGETSplaylist I haven't seen a youtube video on it. So the process I describe above you can do it yourself. If you are synced ignition on Cyl 1 and unplug the injector(#1), at idle, your exhaust misfire will line up on the cylinder chart with the exhaust stroke of number 1. BUT, take the same capture at 2000 rpm+, now use the cylinder chart and the misfire will move to the right 90 degrees, so if your F.O. was 1342, it would show up as cyl cyl #3 on the overlay chart. Again you must try this yourself to "see" the proof. I can't state this enough, exhaust running waveforms are at most useful for cylinder Identification for misfires. A cranking exhaust waveform can reveal very useful information. For example on a V6, F.O 142536, the IVO & EVC for cyl 3, and EVO for cyl 1, with ignition sync on 1 with the overlay chart. I wonder if I just wrote a script for a short video? Hint...Hint. lol

You do good videos, not too long, straight to the point plus your voice is easy on the ear. I'm interested in the Rotkee gear & have tried contacting them through their webpage & their facebook page with no response. Would you consider them reliable? I'm debating whether to go for their MT Pro scope or a Pico non automotive. If they don't respond it'll have to be Pico.
@theGADGETSplaylist3 жыл бұрын
MT PRO 4 has been out-of-stock for a while. They've been having trouble filling orders. This and some probes have recently undergone redesigned and intermittent stock issues. They do not take PayPal. Add items to the cart and on checkout, there are 4 payment options to chose from. Guys on our HScope Group report getting their orders in about 3 weeks time. Have not heard of anyone making payment and not getting their shipment. Make sure you understand the differences of MT PRO vs conventional USB oscilloscopes. They'll send me one (maybe) for review when stock situation improves. It's a lot of scope for $220 but it is not conventional. They could communicate better. But I think they are a small, honest company.

@@theGADGETSplaylist Thanks for the reply. According to their website the MT4 is supposed to be in stock on the 20th of this month. @@philb2334 first of all, it is not a USB oscilloscope...it connects to laptop through ethernet port and thus has separate power requirement (can be supplied 5v through laptop USB) not all 8 channels are same...4 have 250 KHz bandwidth...the other 4 have 1MHz bandwidth and are "differential inputs" (+) and (-) and there's more...I don't have all the particulars...

Hi i bought ROTKEE pds pulse transducer. can you pls explain how you have connected this to exhaust .. what kind of tube you recommend to connect to exhaust from pulse transducer. also can u explain where did you connected your intake ..
@theGADGETSplaylist13 күн бұрын
you'll notice I used a 1/2" ID braided hose for the exhaust test ... there's not that much heat there and it's not for that long so it can withstand it...and there are other similar sized hoses kicking around that might be even more heat tolerant also in this video I demonstrated using the PDS for crankcase test...just a small hose into the dipstick tube for intake PDS tests, the best 2 places are at the EVAP solenoid vacuum hose ...or...at the brake booster vacuum hose ... normally just engine crank tests since engine running at idle would produce high vacuum capable of damaging the piezo disk in the PDS

@theGADGETSplaylist13 күн бұрын
if you wanted to do intake PDS with engine running at idle, then disconnect air intake and have PDS take measurement upstream of throttle plate (between throttle and air filter) vacuum would be low there and no risk of piezo damage

Very interesting! I have never done this kind of pressure measurement on an engine and wonder about the "rule of thumb" delay in the exhaust waveform relative to the timing reference. This phase shift is due to the physical properties of the exhaust system, non? What kind of information do you derive from these signals?
@theGADGETSplaylist4 жыл бұрын
Not really a phase shift per se, Derek. The #1 sync is really undergoing its power stroke. That's why later (2 peaks later) it is then in its exhaust stroke.
