Thanks Cathy, after I watched this nibs comparison video. It gave me a better picture of what is the line width between the pilot custom 74 fine vs pilot e95s fine. After you've explained the e95s is a slight broader. I decided to go with e95s fine cause I've been looking for a pilot pen that is a slight broader than my custom 74 but not too broad like a medium. Finally I found the answer here. Thanks a million!

Cathy, thank you so much for featuring the Prera so often and speaking highly of it! Mine just arrived today and I'm amazed by just how nice it is-well made and it writes wonderfully. Aside from the Petit1 I've actually never used anything but italic Pilot nibs, so it's a little shocking that this Pilot fine is the smoothest nib I've ever used.

You're welcome! I remember when I wrote with my Prera (F) for the first time. I couldn't believe that a nib that fine could write so smooth.

@@gadgetstop321 Truly! I actually prefer the pencil feel of the fine on my Sailor ProColor, but I'm just blown away by Pilot's ability to create such a smooth fine, and at a relatively low price point.

I like that 'Dark Energy' ink, Cathy.....How lightweight is that Custom 74, say, in comparison to the 78G (+) ? I have several different versions of this model. Thank you, as always, Andrew :)

thank you for useful review!! I wish I should have watched this clip before purchasing Pilot Custom 74 in fine nib. I don't like how it performs the upstrokes. I am thinking of getting e95s in medium. Thanks again for good review!

I recommend you watch some videos of writing samples for the E95s. My E95s (F) writes noticeably wider than any of my other Pilot fine nibs and other people have said they've had the same experience. Mine is a lovely writer. I was just surprised by the width of the line it makes.
@nirvanagift8886 ай бұрын
@@gadgetstop321 I saw your sample and thought that e95s in fine nib provides quite broader line than any Pilot gold nibs. But I am afraid that Pilot gold fine nib will disappoint me again, like custom 74 does. I have no chance trying the nibs myself, I may consider medium nib. I want smooth feelings from the pen (in every angle ) which Pilot VP Decimo in medium is really good for my taste. Thank you so much for your kind comment! ❤️

Great comparison! BTW ... I've been meaning to ask; how's that E95s holding up in terms of it's durability (finish wise, that is)?

My E95s still looks brand new, but I really baby it because it feels so delicate.

Wanting to get that Pilot custom 74 but not sure what nib size to get. I have the E95s in a medium and it feels more like a medium/broad compared to my medium on my TWSBI. I was curious at what you think of the Custom 74s medium? Or should I go for a fine since I am wanting a little bit smaller writing than my E95s. Thanks for any help you can give. Hope you have a great day and keep up the great informative vids!!

I've never written with a Custom 74 medium, but I believe it will write like the medium Stargazer in this video. The E95s medium and the Custom 74 medium probably write with the same line width, though the E95s might seem a little more broad because it draws a more uniform line. If you want a noticably finer line, I would recommend going with the Custom 74 fine. You may also want to check out Goulet Pens nib comparison tool before you make your decision: www.gouletpens.com/pages/nib-nook I hope this helps and you have a great day too!

just got my pilot prera medium nib. i feel like it writes like your stargazer medium. i know they’re both medium nibs but is that normal for prera? i thought japanese measurements were thinner so i didnt expect mine to write like it does..

I just received the E95S fine and mine writes like my other Japanese fine nibs. It doesn’t seem wetter or thicker. I was a bit bummed that it didn’t. There is such a big jump from pilot’s fine to medium. Their medium is similar to western mediums. Wish more came in the MF. I don’t have a pilot ink in it currently. I have the kwz honey in it. Maybe that’s making a difference or perhaps the more I break it in it’ll open up more.

My favorite nib depends on which ink I'm using, but I have found that most of the time my favorite is the #5 14k fine nib on the Custom 74. The #3 14k fine nib on my Pilot Legno is equally good.
