A wonderful guitarist who doesn’t get the credit he’s due for his skills. Sings in a dialect that is becoming rarer in Alba , Erin go Bragh is a fabulous song that mentions Ireland(my heart) and auld Reekie(my hame) just stunning from my favourite Scottish singer. 🏴☘️🇮🇪

It's actually a rendition of a much older IRA Song called Row in the town, this rendition is about an Ulster Scot who went back to Scotland and faced discrimination in Scotland because he was raised in Ireland this song, this character certainly is not celebrating Ireland or being friendly to the Irish he's been given the nickname ''Erin Go Bragh'' upon returning to Scotland he's Identifying himself as a Scottish man from Argyle where his Ancestors have come from the character displays his Anti-Irish sentiments as well as his dismay at the Locals in Argyle for not recognising him as a true Scotsman this is made clear when he says '' We'll I know your a Pat (Irishman) by the cut of your hair but you all turn to Scotsman as soon as your here you left your own country for breaking the law and we're seizing all stragglers from Erin Go Bragh'' He's boasting about how Ulster Scots have remained a totally Scottish Identity while being in Ireland and looking down on Irish Immigrants in Scotland for becoming Scottish calling them Stragglers It's certainly not a song celebrating much friendship between the Irish & Scots but I understand why a Scottish song titled Erin Go Bragh could lead one to that conclusion.

@@brendan650 There are two characters in the song, not one. The main character who speaks in first person does not in any way display anti Irish sentiments. He mostly displays his indifference to being contemptuously called Irish. He says: "but what if I were a paddy? That's nothing at all, for there's many a bold heroes from Erin go bragh" and "so come on ye young people wherever you're from, I don't give a damn to what place ye belong. I come from Argyll in the Heilans sae braw, but I never took it ill being called Erin go bragh." The other character who conveys his enmity towards Irish immigrants is the policeman whom the main character kills and then has to flee: "But I came to a wee boat that sails in the forth and I packed up my gear and I sailed for the north. Farewell to Auld Reekie, your police and A, and the devil gang with ye says Erin go bragh."

The real lyrics talk about taking the flag of the crown down and replacing it with a tri-colour. Pretty sure Gaughan was a unionist.

Swurvin Creations Dick Gaughan a Unionist ? You are an amadán (you can look that up). You also talk out of your arse on lyrics,as I’m sure you refer to a Wolfetone’s version, which is one of about 6 different versions I know of this song.
@ICT174 жыл бұрын
@@hiddenknowledge2012 Dick Gaughan a Unionist, are you having a laugh? A quick googling of Dick Gaughan's views on Scottish independence should soon disavow you of that idea. Also these ARE the real lyrics, it's a Scottish song from the 19th century, the later versions - such as the one sung by the Wolfe Tones - are post 1916 Irish nationalist songs, the original is not an Irish nationalist song.

@@brendan650 No, you got the song wrong, he is not an Ulster Scot, he is a Scot from Argyle, in the Scotish Highlands, where at the time of the song, people spoke mostly Gaelic, he being one of them. He has traveled through both Scotland and through Ireland, and the song is about an altercation he had with the police in "Auld Reekie" (a Scots nickname for Edinburgh), Edinburgh is in Lowland Scotland, Highlanders faced discrimination from Lowlanders for speaking Gaelic, in Edinburgh a police officer thought he was Irish and tried to insult him calling "Erin Go Bragh", he responded to the police officer that he wasn't Irish, although he had travelled there, but even though he wasn't Irish, he tells, he is not insulted from being called "Erin Go Bragh" for there are a lot of heroes in Ireland. The song is about the discrimination faced by both Irish and Scotish Gaelic speaking Higlanders at the hands of the Scotish English and Scots speaking lowlanders, and how, although not being Irish himself, the author isn't ashamed for being called Irish, he is even proud.
