That’s actually what I was thinking… when I think of Poirier making light work of Mcgregor twice and Gaethje doing a job on Tony and this fight. You can’t help to think how good Khabib is. He’s levels above the whole division, and this division by far is the hardest weight class without a doubt.
@crazykubla
@crazykubla 2 жыл бұрын
True, I don't like how the division played out though. Prime Tony got robbed, McGregor stopped training, khabib kept delaying or missing his fights. The constant drama between the McGregor khabib camps didn't help either. Still, khabib kept going through all that madness which probably adds to his legacy.

The thing about Khabib is not just that he wins all his fights, he makes the opponent look absolutely helpless and crushes their willpower just watch his last 2 fights against Poirier and Justin, look at poiriers face before he loses gasping for air and Justin gaetje for how tough he is literally tapped out before he went to sleep.

That's what great fighters do. Jon Jones did the same with the light heavyweight division: made everyone else look like a chump, even though in his absence we clearly saw a resurgence of talent. Amanda Nunes makes everyone in bantam and featherweight look like a dunce, even legit former kickboxing champions like Germaine du Randamie. Hell, people keep making excuses for people that Israel Adesanya defeats. Remember when he KO'd Rob Whittaker twice in one fight? Or when the infamously pressure-oriented offense of Costa couldn't get off the ground? Everyone keeps saying "why didn't they do the thing they usually do?" Part of a great fighter's game plan is preventing the other guy from executing his.

What scary about the Gaethje khabib fight was the amount of control he had. He physically didn't hurt him on the ground whatsoever. It was pure technique. Khabib also weathered a lot of Justin's strikes before Justin gassed out. That's when Khabib decided to grapple and take him down and put him to sleep. An absolute masterclass. So good, in fact, that it made Justin look like a child. That being said, Justin Gaethje's biggest weakness isn't his wrestling, but his conditioning and energy management. He does his best when he takes it slow, but he's admitted numerous times that he sometimes ignores his coaches because he just has so much fun in the cage and only wants to keep swinging. That's probably why he's my favourite fighter. Sometimes he'll ignore strategy because he loves hitting people and getting hit.

Yeah, I don't think people realize how top level a move that was from Gaethje, he is without a doubt, possessing of top tier wrestling skills. People thought he had terrible wrestling skills after the Khabib fight, but midair legpass is some very serious shit in the wrestling world you don't see much of, even at an olympic level. You could literally see the spirit drain from Chandlers body after that for a period of time. This fight just proves to even further how good Khabib is/was. A big reason why there's a lot of hope from Makhachev is because people miss seeing Khabib just manhandling the greatest fighters in the world, who the next in line would have a war with. Thats worst part being tired and getting choked after smash. Because it will eventually break opponents will and thrive for win. After couple takedowns, ground and pounds fighters goal switches from winning a match to how not get taken down. I would rather get KOd than 15 or 25 mins grueling “smash process” It reminds me a scene where Leo Dicaprio gets manhandled by grizzly. He manages to kill the bear. @T. I already explained this in other comments before, there are three weight type..1. walking weight meaning any normal day weight, 2. Fight camp weight, this is the time when a fighter is confirmed or signed contract to fight in a specific weight class, if the fighter's weight is far from the weight category he's going to fight,..he'll start cutting weight in terms of food n drinks(control diet) until to a certain targeted suitable weight, 3.cutting weight.. this usually they start doing it a week or two week before the fight day,they do it gradually, until few days left they start to do water cutting weight , usually they go to sauna, put thick covering all around their bodies just to sweat as much as they can. This is why some people misunderstood when a fighter tell his walk around weight, it depends on when, if he's asked during normal days of course he weight a lot, if asked during fight camp it will be lesser
@Rlouis367
@Rlouis367 2 жыл бұрын
@T. The part you say he almost died cutting weight, you said that because not many fighters shows their video of cutting weight, I did comment about this on Khabib's official video channel and said you shouldn't show the complete video especially the last part where he was lying down n look weak, the reason was if new fans watching this they will misunderstood into thinking he's the only one cutting weight that bad, and also especially his haters will use this to say this the proof he's a weight bully which is not..to add more during his last fight for Justin, he was in all kind of hell, his father's death, he almost didn't want to fight anymore but Dana kept pursuing to do it at least for the last time, this is the word of Dana himself, and then he got mumps, he had to rest for 3weeks i think without heavy training, just light cardios, and lastly he broke his toes, these are all why it was terrible weight for him.. According to Michael Bisping, the weigh-in shouldn't be an issue, he said, it's a standard procedure for every fighter before they weigh in infront of journalist on the stage, the official staff which isn't working for UFC, will do the weigh-in at back of the stage 1st, jus for final check, ..if he ever miss weight, it might be only few ounce,... remember he's not the one to fight again at least at that time, it was only three month after the lost of his father.

DC has said that Islam got better wrestling and tighter striking than Khabib, and Javier Mendez has said that Islam was ahead in striking but only wins a few sparring rounds against Khabib ever. My intuition is that the remaining factor is Khabib's fight smarts. I've seen Islam pull some smooth moves but not as much as Khabib. It could also be Islam never needed to, we'll see when he gets contender-level opponents.

The way I see it with Khabib you arent gonna win defensive wrestling or not. The problem is you have two options both are bad almost equally. 1) dont be afraid of the takedown he picks you up and slams you as soon as you believe its a striking match cause the legs are right there for the taking and you have your hands high. 2) be afraid and try the old pull away fron the take down most of Khabibs opponents love this one, you will succed in defending cause he cant get enough leverage over you if you are backing up, but sideaffect you get closer to the cage and nowhere to go, that is actually the reason why most of Khabibs takedowns are against the cage. Now Gaethje circled very good that wrestling experience helped him made sure his back was almost never against the cage except once in late round 1. Just one problem he was getting pressured heavy, and Khabib ends up setting the pace its much more easier for Khabib to run frontwards than Gaethje running backwards and he got tired in just 1 round crazy. You just cant win against Khabib, the only way is to be a better MMA grappler not just one area like folkstyle or JJ all of the grappling, and you have to have more experience than Khabib.

Against Nurmagomedov it wasn't Gaethje's wrestling that let him down, it was his BJJ. But its not like elite BJJ works against Nurmagomedov anyway, we've seen Nurmagomedov maul multiple black belts (Truijlo, RDA, Poirier etc). Chandler just doesnt have a brain. Dont get me wrong it was an entertaining fight, but so are some BKFC fights. Chandler was fighting like an idiot, hands down letting opponent smash his face. Does he want to be champion or just an entertainer. Geathje fought well.

Love the content Chael, thanks for always bringing it. I didn’t catch it on the camera angle at first, but Michael hit his head hard on the canvas after the takedown… so I think he was collecting himself from that as well as confidence gathering…

That leg pass that Gaethje did is the definition of art in Martial Arts, there's no other word except beautiful that quite describes it. To get picked up and look like you're going to get slammed to only end up in a better position than the person who picked you up is just incredible.

I spend every second of everyday in the present, putting in the work to get better, using these gifts God has given me to be the best version of myself each and every day.
