The Dakar Rally got its name from its original route, which began in Paris, France, and ended in Dakar, the capital of Senegal, in West Africa. The race was first organized in 1978 by French motorcycle racer Thierry Sabine. He got lost in the Libyan desert during a race and was inspired to create a new type of endurance rally that would take competitors through challenging and remote terrain. The race quickly gained international fame, and "Dakar" became synonymous with adventure and extreme motorsports. Although the race no longer runs through its original Paris-Dakar route, it has retained the name "Dakar Rally" even after moving to South America in 2009 and later to Saudi Arabia in 2020.

CS Santosh used to represent Hero in Dakar as India. Till then I used to keep update but in 2019 he met with an accident in Dakar. It was very bad news though he wnt in coma after the accident. but luckily he survived.

Sadly 2016 was the year when the Indian two wheeler corporate giant participated in the races .. The team Hero combined with the Germans SpeedBrain German off-road racing specialist .... They made 2 Dakar race bikes 450cc displacement.... The bike was wild in every way ... It's so sad team India isn't seen competing anymore among the world's most exotic motor sports event ...... 😢

@@ParthMaru11 We use to have a Himalayan car rally in the 80s. It's dead. Even F1 races are not held though we have a F1 track. Ever visited a tehsildar office for property related work ? You will understand the true meaning of bribe . Customs officials are the real headaches to get racing literature into the country. Everyone takes Modiji's word seriously.... Sabka vikas.... sabke saath . Don't earn alone. Indian leaders are the reflection of Indians .
