Got some major nostalgia vibes just thinking back to gaming in the 90s. At the time I was the designated Nintendo kid in the neighborhood but thankfully my next door neighbor was all about Sega (even during the Master System days) so it wasn't hard to keep up with both companies. Much fun as I had with Sega the only console exclusive franchise I was severely jealous of was Phantasy Star, to the point I pooled my allowance money with my friend so he could afford IV.

Segaretro.org looked into the whole 'no project Uranus' thing and from what they were able to gleam the reason for that is as follows: 'Hiroyuki Miyazaki offered a few explanations for this, saying when pronounced in Japanese it sounds like "Uranu" or "won't sell", what he called "an ominous name for a project."' BTW this channel is incredible and the fact you don't have more subscribers make me think that the people who are behind youtube's algorithm should go to trial in the Hague.

My friend how have you been? I see this amazing channel is still rocking hard and that puts a huge smile on my face. I am a connoisseur of all things Sega and this video has to be one of your very best. So many memories... I started gaming back in 1986 with the Nes and Master System. At that time I was very much a casual gamer that longed to have the arcade experience at home. Nothing irked me more than seeing "just like the arcade" splashed across a box only to find said claims to be a stretch at best. That is until the new super 16-bit systems started to show up in gaming mags. I am a cynic by nature and didn't trust anything EGM (for example) said about these new "super machines." Christmas was around the corner and my parents wanted to know if I wanted one of the new consoles...but which one? Almost daily I flip flopped between the TG-16 and Genesis until one fateful day in late November of 1989. I just purchased a brand new game for my Nes that was unlike anything I had ever witnessed before and I wanted to show it off (Ninja Gaiden). I took my brand new Nes game pak (remember that) to my best friends house to show him my awesome bounty. When I arrived I promptly handed him my new game and told him he needed to play this game. What struck me as odd was his reaction to it was ho-hum or meh. He told me he was playing something new that I had to see as well and it was going to smoke anything I brought over...I thought, "challenge accepted." Unfortunately for me, I walked into his room and found a game I had seen before but only in the arcades. He was playing Ghouls n' Ghosts for the Sega Genesis and my jaw quite literally hit the floor. I had never experienced graphics and sound like that before in my life. In an instant I went from casual gamer to hardcore in a matter of seconds. I knew I had to have one and was willing to do whatever it took to get one. Thankfully, my dad is a gamer like me and I had him pick me up just so he could see the Genesis in action. His reaction was one of shock and disbelief at how close to the arcade the Sega Genesis was. You better believe that Christmas I got my...ahem we got our Sega Genesis. That first day I got Altered Beast (pack-in), Ghouls n' Ghosts, and Space Harrier 2. Just after Christmas I got an IOU game (my parents couldn't find it) Phantasy Star 2...I think it was January. Even when I got my Snes on Christmas of '91 my Sega Genesis was still king in our house. I recieved Sonic The Hedgehog the very same day as Super Mario World. My friends and I held a super 16-bit showdown that holiday that lasted an entire week. My dad (school teacher) even printed out score sheets for us so we could rate them. Even though it was a close battle Sonic The Hedgehog came in with a win for being so original. Those were good times my friend, good times indeed. Ever since that Christmas of '91 I have rated gaming consoles and still carry the tradition today. Last year we (fiancee, friends, family and I) pitted the Xbox Series X and PS5 against each other...but that's a story for another time.

Hey I’ve been good! What a great story! For me it turned out something the same except I got phantasy star 2 and final fantasy 2 at the same time. Oh man what an Xmas! I saw another comment but it dissolved! I guess google didn’t like it. Anyway I was referring to the rush to next gen, like 32x or fox chip or 3do of what have you through the eyes of people who weren’t there and couldn’t see how huge the change was to a new system. Sure it’s probably hard to discern now so I can see why people would be puzzled at the 32x without the right frame of context. Actually in 2011 I stopped paying attention to all new games and so since then I’ve missed out on a lot and just don’t know what’s going on with great detail. Honestly I haven’t seen an Xbox one in Japan ever let alone the new one 😂 so the lay of the land is different and my point of view in truth isn’t complete

Hey GTV - you have been and still are the best out there the best channel on KZbin that covers so much of what I enjoy. Thank you so much for bringing back the TOP Commenters portion at 4:16 again. That is awesome to see and I hope you'll keep it as it encourages me and others to keep writing and corresponding with you! I had heard of other Sega units with different names but nothing like this! Yes, it would have have been so awesome to take that all with me to college and sneak in a few places. 6:18 would be Venus!! I wonder - was there an American version of this that I could have taken with me?? Didn't hear of one but, I was so busy insane with year round classes. Still, I certainly would have got one during a trip to Japan but I guess I didn't know or understand the connection (would it work) for me. Ah, the 32X - now this is what I called smart marketing! The Genesis could play ALL of the older Master System Games and the 32 was another attachment away for the 32-bit and still have all your Genesis games! No switching electrical ports and ports, just a smooth switch-over and there ya go! And even though I didn't to experience the Venus, what a brilliant idea to save on funds than having to buy yet another system and then research and hope they had what you wanted on there! Too bad that one AND the Jupiter didn't came to be... the Jupiter could have been out years before the Nintendo 64 and who knows what it could have done? Maybe enough to keep Sega afloat Maybe in another Universe, we can only imagine... It very much WAS a war, from 1990 onwards, Sega and Nintendo really were head to head with Nintendo loosing in those early years... the Super Nintendo was great, no doubt, but I remember the Phillips... and for the life of me, I can't recall a SINGLE GAME ever produced on it. Ah yes, the 9th Planet PLUTO. Just like we learned there were 4 Oceans versus 5... I still think Pluto should have been grandfathered in or something. Don't you? What about Sailor Pluto from the original Sailor Moon?? "Your demoting me to WHAT? Oh, I'll show you the meaning of demotion all right! You, COME HERE... " I've heard in whispered tones this is the REAL origin on Mortal Combat with Scorpion's Attack. But I guess only Trista and Serena with ever know. (Their American Names) BTW - Love the different Sega Games background music. Awesome stuff as always man, please keep it up and especially the top commenters. My wife had the Genesis and then the Saturn, while my best friend had the Genesis and shortly after the Sega CD and 32X. A "solar system" is just odd to think about, but given Sega's marketing when they still made hardware, it's not surprising. Nintendo made toys, but Sega moved planets. I did choose the Dreamcast over the PS2, though. I was a broke E-2 in the Army and the Dreamcast had recently been discontinued. So, I could buy a used PS2 and a game for around $100 ($150? I can't remember), or buy a used Dreamcast, around ten games, the keyboard, and the modem for the same price. I chose the latter.

@@GTV-Japan Very true story. The flat earthers just have a different idea of what the planets are. Well, it depends on what flat earther you talk to. There are many flat earthers who believe that the planets are more like wondering stars than actual physical planets that you can inhabit through space travel. Many flat earthers believe we can't leave the earth's atmosphere due to a giant dome known as the firmament. I've done a lot of research on what they believe. It's a very fascinating case study.

I have always wanted a Saturn but never got one. I DREAMT about it multiple times. But it came out after the disappointing Sega CD (awesome system and totally worth it, but the line-up was anemic) and the 32X (the less said, the better). I couldn't justify another Sega hardware gamble after that level of failure. (Thankfully I got a Dreamcast later.) NOW I could get a Saturn... but the games I want are insanely expensive, and so I would need to mod it to play backups. And emulation has finally caught up with the Saturn, thankfully, so... maybe I'll never own one. What would be the point? Just to have it? Sigh... I know they lost the source code for a lot of their classic games, but why isn't Sega considering a Mini Saturn? Just do a bang-up job on the emulation on a few lost classics (PDS, all of the Shining Force 3 episodes, Burning Rangers, etc.) and you'll have my money!

I’d love a Saturn Mini! There was a short time where the Saturn was $200 and came with three games and it really should have driven sales but I’ve always contended that once Final Fantasy VII was announced that was the end. As anyone on the fence went to PS for that game and publishers followed. Best I can recall until that Saturn and PS were almost even in the USA and the Saturn was leading in Japan. Great video... I recall in 1993 "gamer magazines" in the U.S. that it seemed like someone was trying to take credit for the name "sega Saturn" despite a Japanese press released naming next generation Project Saturn in January 1993. Thus by mid 1993 someone was claiming that the "Project Saturn" was gonna be too expensive and it was gonna use Motorola 68020 or 68030 CPUs which iirc were technically high end CPUs already used by Namco's arcade hardware boards and prpbably some of Sega's arcade hardware however in a Japanese Sega Consumer History book published after Sega Enterprises went bankrupt and the consumer division was disolved in late 2000 or early 2001 that those CPUs, while powerful, aka the Motorola 68020 and 68030 would have easily been over powered by the competition being that they were suggestions from Sega of America which is why they just made no logical sense and the person who said this had far more credibility in saying that in a limited manner, Hideki Sato San had previously been chief hardware team of the SG1000, the Mark III aka SMS, the Sega MegaDrive and Sega Saturn (the MegaCD was said to have a different chief designer/engineer) meanwhile Sega headquarters had long years alliances with Victor JVC, Yamaha and Hitachi... not just Motorola so the very custom development of the Super Hitachi CPU and later the SH2 were actually handled and engineered top secret with Sega and Hitachi engineers inside Sega headquarters and the use of a dual CPU set up was nothing new for Sega's arcade hardware engineers since the mid to late 80s while Namco's first 3d polygon hardware used dual 68020s or 68030s iirc. Also the use of dual VDPs in Saturn was also not really something new especially considering the mid to late 80s Sega arcade hardware and even the 3DO and to an extent the Atari Jaguar and probably the NEC Super GraFX since those hardware used multiple or parallel graphics chipsets which again becomes a bigger theme later on with Sega's arcade hardware in the late 90s minus the Sega Model 1, Sega Model 2 and Sega Model 3 since those were in the teething problems of being very costly high end arcade hardware. Ehh long rant yeah but very interesting... if we consider how it relates to the "Jupiter" which only appeared in gamer magazine articles in early 1994 as rumored hardware that was later denied in the youtube Sega Official hardware history talk... probably because talks about such a thing were probably a bit controversial. Being that yes, Sega was in third place in Japan up to that point in 1993 before the Sony official PS-X announcement adding one more competitor for next gen... we must always be aware that the console wars in Japan were way more ruthless and fierce than anything that was going on in the U.S.A. Being that initially Atari abandoned game consoles for proprietary computers that could also play games in the mid to late 80s and in the U.S. videogame consoles were just not being seen by... "grown ups" as seriously profitable industry devices and the unfortunate luck of the VERY unstable management staff hired to work at Sega of America since 1986 leading to further instability, Tonka Toys managing SoA while Nintendo of America did went through their teething problems but built a solid beachhead and later the delay of setting up and reorganizing Sega of America to launch the Sega MegaDrive which ended up as a year delay and Sega Genesis... Plus NEC also facing major teething problems setting up NEC America to properly handle the marketing and distribution of the PC-Engine... which just turned into another entire year delay... wishful thinking would have had a pre-planned launch of the Super GraFX instead which might have helped subsidize the Super GraFX hardware in North America so long as small number of units were distributed. Anyways it was a lot of fun for the Sega presentation to reveal the Sega Venus prototype and deny the Jupiter ever existing which again may be influence coming from a group that may deny they placed that influence there but in 1993 and later 1994 gamer magazines, a particular salesman chief in an american subsidiary branch who had never really launched a next generation lower cost arcade at home hardware launch before, definetly had some major insecurities easily noticed by the remarks, commentary and interviews given which showed weak management leadership and should have translated into being replaced by a more capable and confident management staff. Even if the Sega Japan staff deny it... there are clues in plain sight that the Sega Saturn could have easily been an all in one hardware machine capable of full ROM Cartridge OR CD-ROM functionality as well as the Twin ROM System which was being talked about in mid to late 1994 and the other capabilities like RAM expansion and CD-ROM to make the Sega Saturn a much more flexible and expandable machine compared to Sega MegaDrive and MegaCD or the WonderMega. The existance of the 32X completely defeats the purpose of the Sega Saturn continuing to maintain a ROM Cartridge capability... and the FEARS of "Sega Saturn being too expensive" were mainly being spoken by a certain Sega of America president in 1993, 1994 and in a 1995 Edge/Next Generation interview which begs the question of what if Edge/Next Generation had started much earlier and performed interviews as far back as early 1993 on these topics... since it is well known that the 32X did not get officially talked about or even shown until the June 1994 Tokyo Toy Show and also some talk given by Sega of America around that time where their staff was on an EGM magazine press release claiming that the 32X was a Sega of America idea and that Sega Japan would manufacture it and because of it's lower price, that it was gonna win which is just crazy talk and rather insulting towards the Sega fanbase back then... We were very well connected to knowing that the 3DO was a stand alone machine that was gunning at Sega and Nintendo (just look at their insulting television commercials and the 3DO Presentation by Trip Hawkins where he claimed either a 20 to 30 times the power increase over previous home consumer hardware. and the real trigger that got Nintendo ramping up their next gen since 1993 barely three years after launcing their Super FamiCom and Atari's rather arrogant re-entry into the game console world with marketing that was telling the gamer fanbase that they were stupid for not doing the math... see the hardware engineers may have made excellent hardware but the marketing department could have destroyed that credibility and those comparison commercials, even by Sega had a tendnecy of backfiring by making the Nintendo fanbase much stronger and later somewhat the Sega fanbase which was barely being supported or respected by Sega of America... In Theory with no 32X and no Sega of America interference, we could have seen a rully High Performcance ROM Cartridge and CD-ROM home Amusement Machine backed up by Virtua Fighter 1, Virtua Racing, Star Wars Arcade and posibly Wing War (since we do not know how many projects were being split around) and in Japan at least even if the hardware would have retailed for around $500 to $550 USD equivalent (note that the 1991 launched MegaCD retailed for 50,000 YEN aka around $500 USD equivalent unless I'm mistaken and those big Sega Model 1 arcade games would have made such a manchine look far more credible in Japan than the Sega Saturn with only Virtua Fighter 1 causing hardcore Sega fans and arcade fans to buy up machines resulting in over 500,000 units sold by the end of 1994... perhaps with the factory focused on only Sega Saturn (since 32X was definetly derailing chip parts, game development time and effort and financial backing that in Japan the Sega Saturn would have ramped up much higher in terms of game production focus and both the MegaDrive and MegaCD would not have suffered as much from the losses caused by the 32X... plus Core Design programmers kinda wasted their time on 32X...iirc the lead programmer for Tomb Raider made either one or two 32X games which were financial losses..., those games on Sega Saturn instead would have meant more experience with the hardware and a much higher level of coding on the Tomb Raider SS version which in the long run as the 1MB RAM cartridge or maybe skip that to 4MB RAM Cartdridge we would have seen a very different and longer term 32bit console war were while Sony PS1 would still have the same level of distribution... the Sega fanbase would not have been destroyed by Sega of America like it was.

@@GTV-Japan I feel that in Japan, the Sega engineers were planning their Project Saturn in a proper next generation manner up to that point because most of the development and planning had started since before the press released in January 1993. In a way you did have to consider that the SNK NeoGeo AES/MVS was a rival to Sega and NEC was probably very successfully expanding with the PC-Engine Duo combo in Japan alone plus the Arcade Card giving them a boost in potential and many games immediately supporting it... both the PC-Engine Duo and Victor-JVC/Sega WonderMega's were combo units started around 1992 and yes they did have high prices due to the tech... but proper marketing to late teens and 20 year olds with working income would eventually pay off.... plus the eventual arrival of advanced games fully using the PC-Engine Duo Arcade Card Super CD-ROM2 set up as adventure, shooting and JRPGs as the potential... and with WonderMega and MegaDrive+MegaCD there was also a major potential if it wasn't for Sega of America just prioritizing live action FMV games as the image of the CD expansion... SoA should have been more worried about investing money in having in-house NFL football, NHL and NBA based games and less blocking of Japanese loyal Sega allied 3rd parties that made Sega MegaDrive and later MegaCD exclusives. No matter what is the hear say... a problem does crop up in the pages of Edge/Next Generation early 1995 (which was being written in 1994) aritcles on the Sega Saturn where there is a "hearsay" or "we heard from a Sega staff that prefers no to say his/her name" with regards to the Sega Saturn in that the preference was to ONLY make the next generation hardware and fight it out like that... and that the 32X, from the Sega Japan minor staff perspective seemed redundant... when you think about it no matter how highly skilled a Sega programmer or dev team was, they definetly knew it was time for next generation or NEW powerful hardware... which is what makes the 32X something that definetly was rejected and then forced with salesman tactics of promises of Genesis owners in U.S. just blindly buying what was ordered by Joe Miller to be an add on and be upgraded to have dual SH2s... increasing the cost. Sega Japan staff... namely Hayao Nakayama may have been a softie at heart... unfortunately... if we analize what was going on with S.C.E.A. before and after the launch of the Sony PS1 in 1995... all those claims of a successful launch seems like total B.S. when Olaf Olafson, Steve Race and Bernie Stolar... all big rank management staff were essentially REPLACED because there was something that they definetly did not do correctly. I can say from back then being the PS1 image of mostly drab 3d games, saved by the Namco arcade games and Midway MK3... however in the gamer mags there were games... 2d graphics games that looked like super super better versions of SNES games on still screens in mags... it was pretty frustrating how many of these 2d games, rich in colors were simply missing... and there is another problem with that... Sony openly targetted older gamers...if you were in your 20s and knew about Konami's Parodius having arcade hardware graphics... by the same people who made Gradius... there was a high chance that you would have been interested... instead it took a while and eventually 2d games became more abundant on PS1... which is funny in a way because the 3d image was being projected in 1995 and at least from 1994 to 96, only Namco and a few others had impressive 3d graphics games. With the 32X it was just unfortunate.. a bad idea that split resources and should have een rejected... a theoretical Sega Saturn with additional engineering time and all in one solution.. NOT JUPITER would have been more preferable... since a great deal of the FEAR of price was spearheaded by Tom Kalinske making claims of "magical $299 price points" While it is true that the 3DO launched at an insane price... there actually were hardcore gamers who were buying it... and the U.S is a first world and wealthy country... eventually 500,000 units to 1,000,000 could have been reached or more plus it was said to have done very well when it launched in Japan in early 1994... The Sega MegaDrive or Genesis and SegaCD could have simply continued to offer units and software regardless if the Sega Saturn was priced like the Japanese 3DO around $500 to $550 and a late 1994 North American test cities launch with those three Sega Model 1 games would be more than enough to show any arcade fan and gamer who craved power, a reason to buy plus it would have made it far easier to make a 32bit Sonic game on the Sega Saturn running on a ROM cardtridge... this is the key detail of hindsight... the Jupiter was no doubt borne from a certain person whining about the high price and putting their fear based opinions which can be damaging to technological advancement. Sega's Japanese staff most likely never knew how impactful Virtua Fighter would pretty much push sales of the higher priced Sega Saturn... but also having Virtua Racing Deluxe be a Sega Saturn launch game with Star Wars Arcade...... that is just the hindsight killer... Nintendo 64 had a successful 1996 launch in the U.S., I purchased one mainly for Super Mario 64 and did not care about the critics claiming no games... got Pilotwings 64, WaveRace 64 and others... and the only real criticism I can aim at Nintendo during 1996 to 1997 was the abandoning of 2d games... there simply was NEVER a so called "consumer demand" for 3d games... those are all American gamer magazine lies... if you dig up old reviews from around 96 to 98 you will often find remarks claiming (by EGM, and others like the crap fest Next Gen) that ____ 2d game should be lower priced because it looks or they implied that it was less than the 3d games... and honestly if that was not evidence of paid shills I don't know what is. 3DO was the main disruptor and later Sony... the M2 was very close to launching but Matsushita did an accounting assessment and despite having the strongest hardware, fully backed out because they knew it would only trigger another console generation jump, even if it would cost Sega, Sony and Nintendo millions.

In my opinion final fantasy 7 really helped Sony out and set the course afterwards

@@GTV-Japan There definitely was some insecurity and uncertainty being painted back then due to the fact that because of the 3DO alliance (Matsushita Heavy Industries as Panasonic, plus Sanyo and GoldStar in 1993 and 1994 had the biggest financial backing over even Sony and was the true trigger that made Sega re-organize their next gen plans, Sony as well and Nintendo to have to announce Project Reality in 1993. This then shifted when Sega Saturn reached one million Saturns sold in Japan around April 1995 mainly thanks to Virtua Fighter 1 shifting those arcade gamers and late teens early to mid 20 year olds in Japan. This question was posed to Tom Kalinske in that Edge/Next Generation January or February 1995 interview based of November and December 1994 sales data where Tom Kalinske flat out rejected the notion that adult gamers existed. Based on that interview alone and the few who read it, it was easy to see that he was the wrong person in charge of the subsidiary branch for North America so as far as catering to late teens and 20 year olds... most of those potential buyers, like myself and others went to Sony... not because Sony was better but because of the actions by Sega of America during 1994 and 1995. As such despite the successful build up in Sega Saturn sales in Japan... irrc by mid 96 they had passed 6 million plus Saturns sold... such a number all of a sudden becomes attractive to companies like Square or Enix or other former exclusive companies and it was not like they were the best... Sega Japan had their own first party RPGs and Action RPGs most of which were deliberately not being translated and localized by Sega of America but also Sega Japan had GameArts and other companies making exclusive RPGs and Action RPGs which could have become widely known if in North America we did not have people treating owners like toddlers from Nintendo news reports in the states which is almost insulting to Nintendo of America in a way because their staff had been very STEADY at building up the fanbase, telling them about RPGs, telling them about how super successful Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy (Dragon Quest was the bigger one way before the Sony deal) so knowing all of that and knowing that Sony was not pushing two 32bit machines or splitting resources between two 32bit machines like Sega of America had forced things while also just being overall dismissive towards any confidence in the Sega Saturn which really starts from them... and then we can see bad information... low numbers of existing Japanese releases not being localized thus painting the image of lower number of games in 95... a delayed launch... if Saturn launched in 94 Japan why wait and then why force that horrendous Sega of America pattented game pad which had people writing letters and articles... More importantly is that 32X just created a further BAD BLOOD among certain Sega owners... the fact that all the information we were officially told by SoA was to go buy 32X just did not help at all... we were not stupid... we knew what was released in Japan... remember just because some hot shot salesman had what seems like a win, does not mean they were doing the right things or not holding back technological advancement and third party and first party dev profits. In mid 1996 the successful Sega Saturn sales were centered in Japan. Virtua Fighter 1, Virtua Fighter 2, the rise of Sakura Taisen (and later Grandia which many Japanese Saturn owners saw greatness in it and not the FFVII is automatically better belief) which became a megahit there as a high quality game software... To think that the Genesis had a ninja based game that if certain staff were there in 89, they would have blocked it is telling something... So by late 96 if we were counting beans and had to make a decision at Square... we would have to go with Sony, not Sega... and Nintendo would have had to pull a miracle in one year because from a certain perspective it was not even about CD-ROM... if it really was then Square and Enix were not really making money on FamiCom and Super FamiCom.... the FamiCom alone since 83 had reached 10 million units sold by 86 Japan... as good as the Super FamiCom/SNES was, especially thanks to SF2 giving a 6 million cartridge sales boost in 1992 alone... that reign was cut short because 3DO stepped in, Sony stepped in, Sega actually reached number one in Japan until January 1997 where Super FamiCom was still less than six years old. Also Matsushita lost millions on 3DO and M2... they had decision power to release their machine... but again despite having an advantage and interviews where they knew that older gamers existed and could be a vital factor... they made the right choice in a way because later when Sega did it Dreamcast it nearly killed the company away from the security they had with Sega Saturn. Also... I know I ranted a bit to put some perspective here but as far as Sony... their strategy was to push PlayStation like other Sony electronics... that meant not treating gamers like twelve year olds even in North America... why I say that? well in early 1999 there is a GDC conference which can be found on yt where SoA chief presented a 12 year old boy as "the target gamer audience" talk about insulting and clueless... In Japan they targeted the whole family, both genders and different ages... Atari initially did that and NoA initially did that... at some point the image got changed and confused... Sony's deal with Square was stated to be that Sony would essentially handle all marketing for FFVII... so even a mediocre RPG like FFVII on PS1 would be seen as a must buy product by casuals who did not know what an RPG was, Sony's marketing heavy handedness is what made FFVII successfull outside Japan... and in a way also bigger in Japan because marketing was everywhere... at bus stops, train stations... not just billboards... here I recall there was similar material but more so at the movie theater during trailers, the FFVII trailer was shown... so it wasn't just a television blitz... commercials are forgettable really... a gamer magazine does more effective marketing than a television commercial back then... but the way the commercial trailer was done was short and made it seem "like a movie" anyways I feel people tend to forget those details... that Sony made sure that FFVII was a hit and the only reason I say it was mediocre was because it was fairly easy to beat compared to previous FF games yet the 3d and FMV CGi did make it seem next gen This is why it becomes about hype... there is also organic hype too where actual gamers gravitate to a particular game or RPG... which mainly requires Japanese to English translation and the PS1 truly became the RPG game system afterwards where most of the former Sega Saturn exclusives went to. However for Sega, it's really about the SoA management being the wrong people... if S.C.E.A. staff were let go at the end of 95 and early 96... Sega Japan should have reformatted the subsidiary branch... with no Dreamcast all it means is steady sales and install base in Japan and steady sales in the rest of the world... Dreamcast disrupted that... even me as more of a Sega fan despite having all three, found myself thinking how funny it was that FFIV had returned to super deformed anime style CGi characters and a game that must have taken at least two to three years to make or more versus Sega starting from scratch only to have Microsoft announce in 2000 that they were gonna be stuck in fourth place. Might have been different if no DC... MS released xbox in 2001 and then Sony, Sega and Nintendo release their hardware in 2002 and 2003.

Yeah well it’s all in the past. I don’t have that much time to dwell on it. Just happy to have the games
