To be honest I’m kinda glad to know that I’m not the only goofy ork lover who likes to make ork oc and write stories about it. I’ve recently created an evil sunz big mek OC, and because of some regional cultural reasons, warhammer was a pretty unpopular franchise in China blah blah blah. I was being mocked by other people for having an ork oc. This video gave me the confidence to “be orky”. Thank you Gaijin

I think part of the reason Oda nobunaga is remembered as the monster it's cuz he never got a chance to go beyond the conqueror phase of his rulership. Unlike the other two unifiers he was assassinated before he had solidify his rule and transition from the military warlord to the ruler. So all people remember is the conqueror
@starmaker75 Жыл бұрын
Also keep in mind he was tolerant toward the foreigner and even the Christian(even a lot of it was making sure he gets a good deal of weapons and stuff) . Oda also fought the alot of warrior Buddhist monks. Including one aftermath in which he killed a lot of them in a temple. Also when Uesugi Kenshi and Takeda shingen (devout Buddhists) challenged him, Oda jokingly said on the lines "then I'm a demon of the 6th hell". So a lot of the daymino most likely propaganda oda selling his soul to demon foreigners

And the burning part? Isn't that like Mitsuhide doing to kill Nobunaga? Unfortunate because it is a temple too so he gets blame for "hating temples" Like from how I recall he's the victim of the burning strategies. Not the other way around too.

...honestly, Glitzdakka being this tale's Mitsuhide makes sense. He's even got a reason for trying to Honnouji the hell out of Nobudakka's forces baked in: he's resolved to never let another git take advatage of his teef again, and fears Nobudakka'll eventually succumb to the temptation.

While this isn't what I expected for the "Nobunaga isn't as bad as everyone thinks" video, it is what I should have expected from your channel. Japanese Historical learning from the lens of modern media. And I can only imagine if an Ork met Nobunaga they would: challenge him to a head butting contest, admire each other's daka and choppas, have a drinking contest, and then go krump some gitz. Repeat as necessary.
@Nehfarius Жыл бұрын

Kamen Rider Zi-o also used Nobunaga as a plot point. Since the main character is a Nobunaga fanboy and in the future he goes crazy and becomes an evil dictator. But his younger self wants to be a king to unify the world because of a horrible tragedy in his youth.

This just made me realize something: Oda Nobunaga was literally living the roman Caesar way. Rising to power, accepting new recruits, as long as they see themselves as his subjects, getting back stabbed by a close member of his "senate". Even the interest in taking modernization inspiration from other nations, to improve his own army is similar. Would actually be interested to see a video about Orcish Roman Kaizerz.

My first introduction to Oda Nobunaga was actually an otome game called "Sakura Admist Chaos" where he's the main poster boy for this game. They didn't hide the fact that he's publicly considered a "demon" due to his ruthlessness and tactic, even in the game he can come off as not a great dude even to you...but the story really showed a more human side to him, which for an otome game makes sense you're supposed to love this guy as your love interest, but it got me thinking once I heard the historical side: is this *really* all there is to it? Glad to see that my thoughts on there being more to it the pop media representation of Oda isn't just mine alone. Thanks Gaijin!

Games and some people constantly go on and on how evil Nobunaga was. I remember watching Extra Credit's history on the guy and thinking "this guy isn't evil. He's just effective." And, when it comes to the burning and slaughter of the temples...That was less "evil" and more they didn't give him any other choice. After 10 years fighting at a previous temple and him needing his armies elsewhere, he did the only thing he could do to end the bloodshed early. Honestly, it was the same rationale as using the atomic bomb. It cost a lot of lives, both innocent and military, but it ended the conflict with those people quickly. When the enemy fights on the terms of "Victory or last man standing"...you kinda have to take them up on that offer.

Ah, yes cant wait to hear more about the exploits of Orka Nobudakka, like that one time thw white scars chapter invaded his teritory twice with massive fleets of battleships, but both times they were stoped by a giant warpstorm, which the orks nicknamed the "The GorkaMorka winds"

The biggest reason I think that Nobunaga has been so demonized in Japanese media is because of a simple concept: history is written by the winners. Because Nobunaga was killed and his ambitions thwarted, he made a convenient boogeyman for those who won the Warring States Period to ridicule to prop up thier own power. The same thing happened to Benedict Arnold. If the Continental Army had given him the respect and recognition he earned, he would have stayed loyal and probably gone down as one of America's greatest heroes.

My space marine force has, largely, been a mess for a while with more modern editions (well, since the Heroes of the Imperium supplemental list was removed), and might work with a Death Watch one now since the force, in my lore, started out as a Death Watch force that was stranded in an Imperial system under siege in a warp storm for who knows how long. But it was long enough that the apothecaries and others started recruiting and training new marines using the various gene seed due to a lack of other options there. Cue generations later with only a few of the originals still alive and who knows how many passes of the Inquisitor leading the group to have passed down his rosette, the storm ended and you have a mishmash of gene seed and, essentially, a chapter that founded itself there because they're surviving members are more comfortable with each other and have little real connection beyond gene seed with the progenitor chapters...and the Inquisition is trying to figure out hoe they ended up with a chapter of Space Marines that aren't from a founding and have none of the normal issues with other chapters as most due which isn't entirely true in reverse as well as several annoyed chapters who see their gene seed having been used there. They're fun to play around with lore wise because they also have less idea about what's going on in the galaxy.

Great video! Just a small correction in 9:16, the Onin War happened way before Ashikaga Yoshiteru's death. In fact, Ashikaga Yoshiteru wasn't even born back then, as the Onin War happened in 1467 to 1477, while Ashikaga Yoshiteru died in 1565 in what is know as the "Eiroku Incident". Basically, as a result of the Onin War, the Shogunate lost much of its power, kickstarting the Sengoku Jidai, and for roughly the next 100 years became merely influenced by surrounding clans, like the Hosokawa, and later the Miyoshi clan. Ashikaga Yoshiteru was very unhappy with the Shogunate's lack of power and even came into conflict with the Miyoshi, but was eventually killed in the Eiroku Incident by the Miyoshi and Matsunaga, later to be replaced by his cousin as a puppet Shogun for the Miyoshi.

Honestly, my favorite version of Nobunaga I've seen in modern media has to be from the Nioh series. They do a pretty good job building up the idea that he was supposedly an absolute monster during the first game, yet when he's brought back from the dead and fights you, he simply chooses to walk away. He was content with how things were going and saw no reason to restart his conquest despite being given the chance. This, plus his development in the sequel, really helped to show how despite how horrific some of actions supposedly were, he did not do them because he enjoyed them but because he saw them as necessary to unite Japan.

The best depiction of Nobunaga has to be one in Kurosawa's Kagemusha. Restless soul who can't stay in one place, has to ride his horse around in circles, has deep fascination with the west, is explosive and impulsive in his actions, but with good judgement and reasoning. God I wish there was more period dramas centered around great unifiers. Also: Great army. I always liked Orks because of the player base. Now I kinda want to see more factions hit with japanesing beam.
@TheRevanchrist Жыл бұрын
I enjoyed the Nobunaga history. He is personally my favourite of the three unifiers. Toyotomi is second as his story maybe Orkish in his own right. Going from possibly lowest level of grunt to the big boss. And while Tokugawa was the one to make a successful dynasty in the end, he was mostly lucky that his patience was rewarded. And being mostly portrayed as a villain in media, I call that a successful PR campaign by Oda Nobunaga. And while I enjoy the historical Oda Nobunaga, my favourite portrayal is his character in the Type Moon Fate/ franchise, as a gender bent joke character who nearly causes the end of the world on multiple events then laughs if off as the carefree character she is.

The anime Nobunaga the Fool (at least in the English translation) is this bizarre mash-up of science fiction, Historical figures, mythological figures, and world mythology in general. It is a place where entire nations are planets in a massive system of individual planets, and almost everyone fights in giant mechanical armors that are uncreatively called "armors," and the bigger armor units being called the uncreative "Giant Armors." In the series, Nobunaga is more of a bro-type character, often referred to as a fool by those around him that aren't his friends because they don't really know him; I think Gaijin Goombah might get a kick out of that, mainly because just how different their portrayal of Nobunaga is, and that's mostly because they are focusing on a younger Nobunaga that wants to prove himself as warrior and leader, which is a bit different from the established warrior and leader that is often demonized or mysteriously given demonic-esque powers for story reasons. And Nobunaga is an outlier in all of this; he's a clearly oriental individual, but the Giant Armor he uses is of a European design, and he can't come up with a good name for it. So when Leonardo Da Vinci and Joan of Arc, yes they really do show up as supporting cast to Nobunaga, come to the planet and make a reference to how one who can overturn fate is called "The Fool," which in the Western world is an obvious reference to Tarot Cards and what they represent (in Tarot, the card known as The Fool is one of the Major Arcana and is often used as a representation of an individual, object, event, or force with the power alter and/or overturn Fate and Destiny), Nobunaga unironically doesn't get the reference but thinks that's so great he actually names his armor "The Fool," from that point onward, and that's how the series refers to it throughout the rest of its run. At the very least, it's a break from the norm that can feel like breath fresh air at times. But like I said above, the series is a bit of mash-up. In addition to Da Vinci and Joan of Arc, they have King Arthur, made Charlamegne (the ruler of France, and also where the concept of King Arthrur's Round Table comes from) a woman for whatever reason, and the whole series also takes the time to include mystical gemstones that can grant Armors and Giant Armors additional abilities.
@aliastheabnormal Жыл бұрын
I saw the Japanese version and it is that weird. It was made by the creator of Star Driver after all. Also you forgot that King Arthur was a dirty old man that wanted his girl back. That Da Vinci literally got dragged off to hell just because. And that everyone was wrong and it was Mitsuhide who was the savior king.

I've never been able to afford the 40k habit, but have enjoyed the lore, especially Orks and Necrons. Hearing about Nobudakka inspires me to pitch a successor of sorts. For an ork, he would be unusually patient and compassionate, which obviously means he'd be a runtherd, and his name would be Toku-Grimgrot. His army would mostly be made up of grotz with a few squigs and oddboyz mixed in for flavor. A secondary warboss for him would be a grot warboss named Monsta Anzo, and all the grotz would dress in purple and have purple warpaint, "Cuz dey is sneaky grotz." The army itself may also be decked out in purple as sneaky goes hand in hand with patience. This was just a weird idea I had while watching the video, not meant to be taken seriously.

Interesting truly I love how you put everything into context, I would like to point out that the modern laws of war would classify any peasants, who picked up arms in service of a political, religious organization without any kind of uniform or other means to distinguish themselves from ordinary civilians, would be classified as unlawful enemy combatants, meaning that they aren’t protected by the Geneva Convention, meaning that if Oda Nobunaga was tried in a modern war, crimes tribunal, he would have a legitimate defense that would have to be considered by the tribunal seriously, meaning that he’s not a monster of a general just a cold and pragmatic one, not necessarily better but people defend Vlad Dracula and I would argue that more evidence shows that he legitimately had serial killer tendencies than Nobunaga, you’re ability to combine history and pop culture in away to illustrate and educate is one of the reasons you’re among my favorite history KZbinrs. Also if I ever get to my Ork army I might have to steal some of your Noobadaka for the main warboss, my idea was for a unification of several distinct war vans with distinct fighting styles including everything from Apache orks to Baron VanRikdaka and his Flyin Mob but I lacked a proper Big Warboss to unify them, would you mind terribly if I used your Noobadaka as a starting point for my own OC?
