The fact that Primordial Malzeno managed to get rank 13 in the Hunters Choice poll even though it was the newest Monster in the series at that time and also was added as a bonus update after the official support for Sunbreak ended and it still ended up this high in the ranking just shows how good of a Monster Primordial Malzeno is.

Why should they have to worry about making the Qurio fit in? The Magalas still had the frenzy virus in GU and Sunbreak without it being a main story point. Edit: So i don't see a problem with Malzeno useing the Qurios in Wilds.

@@lubbo5261 GU aside (since it was an anniversary title), they did have an explanation for Gore in Sunbreak. They said the Quiro were able to neutralize the Frenzy virus for the time being but needed to hurry and kill the source (Shagaru) before the Frenzy overtakes it (it's why Shagaru was the Urgent quest at the time). And obviously the subsequent ones don't require explanation (they're just for gameplay and can be hand waved using the same explanation). A nice thing they could do for Gore/Shaggy would be to have Frenzy only effect monsters when it's present on a quest (maybe just a recolor or something to reference it), not that it really matters.

More fun facts/additions for Early Gen Elders: [Fatalis:] -Despite what others may say, he actually does have different AI in the Gen 1 and 2 games. -On top of that, his MH1 quest plays almost entirely differently to any other elder and version of himself, and is likely the inspiration for what would later be the elder repel/damage retain system. -Fatalis's MHG high rank event had frankly crazy stats and is in contention for the hardest boss relative to it's rank -Fatalis's AI kinda got bugged in MHG, which would stick around till the end of Gen 2 -If you didn't know, Schrade had a gate you could drop on Fatalis, which would bug out in Dos if you paralyzed him (at least on an unpatched disk, we don't know if the patches changed that dynamic) -Additionally, despite being one zone, Fatalis's AI respects Schrade as being two Zones -It is completely immune to paintballs, but not autotracker/dragonseer balloons [Crimson Fatalis:] -Crimson Fatalis, along with White/Old, would originally be classified in-game as Subspecies in Dos. It's found in the Library and in the Gallery. -Crimson would instantly kill you with its dive, if you didn't move after it's cutscene in MHG or MHFreedom/Portable (it was changed completely by MHF2/P2) -It would also share the same armor mode as White Fatalis until MHF2, where it would get a unique armor mode tied to it's rage mode and would rage more frequently as it's HP lowered -Both it and Fatalis would have Lances that would be the strongest weapons for the first two games [White Fatalis:] -The first ever White Fatalis Event quest was originally marked as ??? on the official website, along with a few other monsters (Crimson and the Rare Raths) -If that wasn't enough White Fatalis had a special quest requirement, involving you obtain special hidden Tomes/Books to assemble the Ancestral Dragon Book. (Dos had a few of these treasure items, if you'd like more details I've got videos on it) -White Fatalis had spots on the map where you could stand to dodge all the lightning strikes from it's pinnacle attack [Alatreon:] -The element and horn dynamics found in World actually had their roots in Monster Hunter Tri. -Ala's AI is not the same throughout the third gen games, and was tweaked quite a bit. -You can get Ala stuck in a wall similar to Tigrex in the Sacred Land. [Lao Shan/Ashen:] -As I mentioned with Shen, in Dos due to the time system, if you fought them at night you could shock them and get a giant electrical effect with Lightning Rods due to the rain (which also disabled bombs, except the Anti-Dragon Bombs -Throughout MH1 you'll do quests and get NPC dialogue that builds up to Lao's fight, it's a really cool storyline. -They both had a subquest in MH2 involving carving a special drop, the Dragon Stone, which is a requirement for one of the Explorer's Tools needed to unlock the Metal Raths. -Lao's AI gets bugged in the second generation in the final area and doesn't correct it's position well relative to the gate, which can save a lot of Fort integrity -Like the other seiges, Dos had a really cool siege system involving the Dragonseer Balloons, which would contribute to the siege outbreak on the server. -Alongside Fatalis, Lao would not get Dragon wind pressure in 2nd Gen, despite being an Elder Dragon. -Like the other elders, except Kirin, Lao would do Dragon damage from its physical attacks in 1st/2nd Gen. [Kushala Daora:] -Unlike the other Elder Trio members, being Chameleos and the Fire Dragons (Teo/Luna), Kushala doesn't require the Dragon Element to break it's horns in 2nd Gen. -The idea Elder Trio, where each of them counter each other wouldn't fully get implemented in Dos, but would eventually get fully fleshed out by Freedom Unite/P2G, where each elder has a compound skill called Anti-(FirDrg/Daora/Chamel). -Rise is the only game with both a Snow Map and Kushala, but no Rusted Skin on it. -Like the other Elder Trio members, in Second Gen, Kushala can regrow its horns by eating/drinking/sleeping. (There’s also an odd bug with White Fatalis that will also cause it to visually regrow its horns upon death.) -Kushala can elevate the weather to prevent the placement of bombs in the snowy mountains. [Rusted Kushala] -Alongside Jhen in Tri, Rusted is an Elder can be fought when it’s siege is up right at Hunter Rank 1! These Town sieges and Sandstorms even visually change both Dondorma and Loc Lac, respectively, outside of the quest ^.^ -Rusted Kushala would get unique noises in Freedom 2 -Rusted’s Town encounter in 4U is potentially a reference to Dos’s early online experience [Chameleos:] -Chameleos is the only Elder in the Trio to not have its Aura fully disabled by either breaking its head or temporarily poisoning/flashing/staggering it in 2nd Gen. It instead required you to sever the tail too. -Chameleos’s stealing would work differently from the Melynx/Gypceros, prioritizing healing/consumables, it steals Spiribird buffs in Rise -In MH2, Chameleos had two “layers” of invisibility, which you could interact with by using Sonic Bombs, this would get altered in F2, and again in FU (along with it’s AI) -Also in Dos, Chameleos had a unique debuff, called Vocal Cord Paralysis, which would prevent you from typing in chat and silence pings. This would be changed to Fatigue and Defense Half in F2. -Originally it was weak to Ice, though this also gets changed by F2. -It has a really cute limping and sleeping animation, which doesn’t appear much in F2/FU, due to the nature of the repel quests being used predominantly unlike MH2’s online quests. (This can be said of the other Trio Elders too) -It also has a cool Tongue fishing animation for eating in the ponds [Teostra:] -Teostra is the only elder Trio member, aside from Rusted to attack the Dundorma (until 4th Gen) -Teostra has a crazy strong JUMP event in Portable 2nd -Teostra had a rare drop, bring it’s powder that was used in the vast majority of Dos’s endgame equipment -Teostra/Lunasta can be seen eating at the powderstone gathering points in 2nd Gen, alluding their lore [Lunastra:] -Lunastra started was the first of final bosses to be spoiled in the intro cutscene, later with Dire Miralis (and Amatsu in the village intro). -Like Monoblos, Lunastra used to be a solo/village only encounter. -Lunastra is the only Elder in the Trio to be fought in the Tower, despite Rise’s cutscenes [Yama Tsukami:] -As Gaijin mentioned, Yama has three different fights, one in the Tower in Dos, another in the Town, and a rework in Freedom Unite. They’re all fun and different. -Yama has an Easter Egg in Dos where it flies over the Jungle Camp in the low rank Rathian quests (I have a YT short of that if you’re curious). That version of Yama has a duplicate monster entry in the data, it can be hit, and will not appear on the map. -On top of that, it was the only monster that could appear in camp. -The tranq bombs making it fall was a change in Unite, not a part of the original fight. -(Bit of a tangent) I’ve spent years trying to solo his Dos Tower fight/urgent with every weapon type (mostly to make a guide). The bowguns and lance remain, Light Bowgun should be done this weekend ;3 [Kirin:] -I’ve mentioned it before, but Rajang eating Kirin’s Horn was actually hinted right from the start, where Rajang had the horn as uniquely strong PVP food in Dos’s Grand Tournament -Most of Kirin’s attack telegraphing was a change made in Freedom Unite, before its lightning patterns weren’t as obvious -Kirin’s Warm Season Mountains Quest had the unique subquest to Raise the Guild flag, which also had its own title associated with it. -Kirin would play Crimson Fatalis’s theme if it was fought in the Battleground. -Kirin, along with the Raths, have a unique version/layout of the Tower in Dos [Ceadeus:] -Ceadeus has multiple secret shortcuts that open up throughout the fight, my favorite is the one that can be found in the ruins of area 2, which leads back to camp ^.^ I am sure I have forgotten stuff, if ya know any others feel free to add them. An interesting fact about the three Dos dragons is that back when Teostra was still fire, they formed a rock-paper-scissors-like triangle where Kushala was weak against Chameleos who was weak against Teostra who was weak against Kushala.

Additionally, in MHGU the G Rank Armour has a Combo Skill that would be called Anti-(whatever Elder it was strong against) & contained Skills that would help deal w/ that Elder. For example, Chameleos' Armour Set had Anti-Kushala & gave Windproof Hi, Polar Hunter & Negate Bind whilst Teostra had Anti-Chameleos. It was a real cool feature

You were spot on with Blackveil. When it has its veil in place it is blind and immune to flash pods, however if you break its face the veil is removed exposing its eyes and now can be affected by flash pods. Its an awesome little addition.

One fun fact about Goldbeard Ceadeus: while the normal monster has one overgrown horn covering its eye, the variant’s eyes are both obscured by its horns. By all accounts it should be blind, and yet it can still detect hunters in its lair! I just think that’s kind of neat :P

The Shagaru Magala fight from MH4U was a memorable fight for me. Alatreon arrived in the new world specifically to destroy safi's nest and eggs. The disappearance of 2 black dragon level monsters (safi and alatreon) is what made fatalis become active as well

Actually narwa doesn’t normally kill Ibushi in mating it was a last ditch effort to stop us from killing them and there offspring

There is even the possibility that she can achieve the Allmother state without needing to drain Ibushi. Because there is a Sunbreack quest were you face a single Allmother Narwa and there is no Ibushi to be found not even broken parts like in the original hunt. This is a cannon hunt, NPCs even tell you it was to prevent a nother rampage from happening. We also already have defeated Ibushi before her but she still somehow became the Allmother without him, which means they met prior and Ibushi survived. So it's likely that what happened in base rise was a abnormal for the storm serpents and that normally Ibushi ether leaves or in the case of base rise stays to defend Narwa. Also Narwa was also desperate and was literally cornerd in the events of the base Game to.

Ceadeus is pronounce like "Sea-Deus" (or "Sea-Day-Us"). This is because it's localized name is derived from the words "Cetacean" (the biological group containing whales), "Sea", and "Deus" (meaning God); effectively his name means Whale/Ocean God.

This is how I always saw it too. Used to drive me a little nuts when people went for the "Cae-dus" pronunciation when they literally spelled his name Sea Deus in the game. All they did was make the S a C. You know, this huge sea serpent, almost like a god of the sea or something right? nah, man. gotta be CAEDUS!

My favorite memory either an elder dragon was when I was using arial IG in GU agaunst Shaggy. We kept clashing in midair and during his lunge attacks. It really felt like I was fighting for the title of King of the Skies (even though technically that was Rathalos’s thing)

While I do not like Gaismagorn that much I do like that it is basically based on the Devil, with its pentagram-shaped mouth to its relation to Malzeno through the qurio (as the original Dracula became a vampire through a pact with the Devil) and the literal fact it ascends from the ground, like it was hell.

About Shara's eyes you're both right and wrong. It's eyes are concave which creates an illusion of them always looking at you and it's a well known illusion. It was definitely made on purpose and is my favourite thing about this dragon Also I'd suggest watching Gaijin Goomba's videos on Shara. I don't remember in which one out of two he goes in depth about his eyes sadly but he does amazing job explaining it and Capcom's possible ideas on it

The Magala Elder Dragon types I like to Fights in Rise SunBreak. I like the fight against Magala evolution and variants. But also the Armour sets of Malala is like a Devil and Angel like design. My favourite is the Chaotic Gore set of Half Angel and Devil design.

Gaismagorm was freakin amazing, what I always thought was that you could find his skeleton in the volcanic region in one of the waterparts of the map, its kinda hanging from the ceiling (just what i think) also its claws are very similiar to the ones of moles which explains the whole digging thing and creating craters and stuff. Of all the final boss monsters in MH he was my fave, also remember how my best buddy reacted when he watched the cutscene before this (with galleus and the ship) he was like, I dont wanna grind for a weapon or armor right now... I WANNA FIGHT THAT!

3:52 For For White/Old Fatalis, I would describe the word 祖 as old but not ancestor although this Chinese/Kaiji can mean either way. The reason behind is that in a recent official book モンスターハンター 発想の法則2 禁忌の書, which consists of collections of interviews between the devs sharing their thoughts and background story when creating the monster, Kaname (the lead art director of MH series) mentioned that the White Fatalis is just a very very old Fatalis and hence the word 祖 is used. For long period of time and still untill now, many people think that the White Fatalis is the ancestor of all wyverns or creatures, but it turns out that it is just a wrong speculation.

I have the book and read about it, and he didn't say it was necessarily an old fatalis, he said that he wanted to create something that gave off the feeling of something being ancient to those who saw it, but if this is older than the base Fatalis or vise-versa is totally undecided and not what they were aiming for anyways. 祖 certainly doesn't mean just old in Japanese, so we have is those who saw and named this monster in world felt it was the most ancient thing they ever saw thus the cool name.

The Rusted Kushala weapons may be bad but the armor sure is not. The arms had the essential edgemaster+3 and the other pieces had evasion and razor sharp so you could use his armor in a lot of different mix sets in MH4U

Hub Monster have about 150% health, and some extra resistance. Its whit the right approach actually very easy to solo. Even Hallowed is managable.

Ceadeus is a lot simpler to pronounce than it may seem at first glance. JP being Nabarudeusu gives us a hint. Navaldeus. Naval Deus. Sea god. Sea Deus. Ceadeus. Just swap Naval for Sea and you're golden.

I know a lot of people like to argue that Elder Dragons like Kirin or Narkarkos are much more similar to other kinds of animal and should get reclassified, in this case "mammals" (Fanged Beast?) and cephalopods, but official ancillary information seems to imply that they are a genuine clade. The way I've made sense of it is by just counting limbs. Elder Dragons ancestrally have six, but several lineages independently lost a pair. Fatalis, Valstrax, Teostra, Narkarkos (you got that right lol), Zorah Magdaros, Giasmagorm, the 'jiivas, etc... have three pairs, while Kirin, Lao Shan Lung, Yama Tsukami (?), Narwa and Ibushi, the Mohrans, Ceadeus, and Dalamadur all lost the pair that formed their wings, with the latter four also having only vestigal hindlimbs (in Ceadeus they've been completely absorbed into the body, but the booklet packaged with the Goldbeard Ceadeus statue shows the skeleton, and it's got two useless legbones).

No. Stop pushing the vertebrate narkakos agenda. I've heard it going around recently, and it baffles me how people can come up with mental gymnastics to justify it being a fucked up dragon instead of clearly being a giant cuttlefish. Yama tsukami, maybe. But if it's a vertebrate it's likely some sort of amphibian. The tricktoad in Rise has shown that amphibians are capable of floating in MH.

@@shylight9731 I know. Its face specifically resembles that of a Fatalis. They're not close relatives (the closest relative to Fatalis is Dire Miralis according to the official phylogenetic tree. This is also consistent with them sharing an in-game rig), but the similarity further supports the classification

Safi'jiva almost become the next black dragon based on the concept art. I think a pitch black body combining with the nova make the whole concept of a cosmos dragon evolve from Xeno the alien dragon is super awesome but I guess Capcom have a different idea...
