Note; I mispoke about one thing; to get the Magnificent Trio to become available you do need to have 1 of each color not in the music staff, but you don't require it to be like that when you activate it. I guess I have only ever purposely went for a triple note combo so i never noticed! Sorry!

Additional info on the Infernal Melody as well: If the buff is in effect due to it already played by your teammates, you are not allowed to perform that mechanic, which meant you have to start queuing on when to play the infernal melody.

GaijinHunter what do u think about that the HH is now op? Because for me the weapon is now more fun and easier to play, but its feels like the buffs got nerfed. (in mhw u could do double buff if u play it again) - So MH RISE = ATK S (first song) = ATK S (second song) and in MHW = ATK S (first song) = ATK L (second song) i play HH since psp and mh since PS2. :3

When stringing into Crush, you can use it in any direction you input. This is part of what makes the ZR>A combo so safe. The Backslam is also easier to use because you can readjust your direction with a Crush incase you end up in an awkward position.
@william_sun
@william_sun 3 жыл бұрын
Crush and Double Swing both have this property, and it's no coincidence that these are the A and X+A moves that are used out of both Backwards Swing and Perform. Crush will read your directional input when you press A to determine which direction to face. Double Swing is a bit more complicated. The directional input when you press X+A determines which version of the attack you use: holding left will result in the attack hitting from right to left, whereas any other input or no input will result in the attack hitting from left to right. If you hold the same direction until the first swing, you will end up facing that direction at the end of the attack. If you initiated the attack holding one direction, but change direction or release the directional input before the first swing, you will end up facing forward at the end of the attack. If you initiated the attack not holding a direction and then hold a direction before the first swing, you will end up facing that direction at the end of the attack, but only if the direction is to the right of your hunter's original direction (you can turn up to 179 degrees to the right, though).
@T00NDRAG00N
@T00NDRAG00N 3 жыл бұрын
@@william_sun Yup, the Double Swing makes it a good follow up to correct your direction after a Backslam. You don't get the same safe precision of the Crush, but you do end up playing 2 green notes.

dude the hunting horn in rise rubs me the wrong way, it really feels like they mae it absurdly braindead, with tons of super armor, shockwave attacks literally headsniping for EZ KOs, your songs basically being playing without any input from you whatsoever, it really does everything for you with little space for placement, thinking or strategy... the complexity and thought that went behind the weapon is entirely gone and what's left is probably the easiest weapon in the game to both pick up and master...

@@LJAndrews1986 yeah even regular moves are from gen/gu. The recital from rise is the adept recital/ invigoration hunter art from gu. The magnificent trio almost looks exactly like the valor recital. Something about the drawn out animations when you're performing songs was so satisfying. You can obviously doot before the fight and then again after the monster leaves to another area and that is an absolutely valid playstyle. but dancing with the monster and weaving in songs and performances while fighting really showcased your skills. Now its more hit and then song happens automatically. Not saying you don't need skill for it, its just a different feel now for the weapon.

I feel weird saying this, but I don't really like the new moveset. It gives me the same "unga-bunga" feeling I get from Hammer, while I always considered HH a more...technical weapon that could still be great solo. I was kinda hoping you would talk about Echo mode in this, since I have yet to find any info about if it's better or worse than Melody. Also, is the hilt stab really gone? Doing the motion for it just gets the kick up. I guess it really isn't necessary now, given how little you actually need to play notes in any semblance of sequence.

So I love your videos and think this was very informative but I'd like to give a little feedback. I think for future weapons tutorials, covering switch skills in the main tutorial would probably be better. As an echo mode player, I won't lie I was pretty disappointed because I wanted to see if there were any echo exclusive combos or tech I hadn't picked up on yet but instead all I got was a tutorial for the mode I don't like. Idk if you plan on doing an expanded version of this similar to how your MHX/GU videos were just added to each other in the definitive editions, but I think whatever you do, it should all be in the same video eventually so new hunters can compare their options and at least be aware of them even if they haven't unlocked them yet. Like I said, I don't know how you plan to tackle it and I don't want you to do it all at once if all the extra content per video would burn you out obviously. I was just personally hoping to see your take on echo mode and whatever other switch skills there are that I haven't unlocked yet. Best wishes, thanks MH Dad.

Thanks alot for another fantastic video and guide Gaijen. It's thanks to you years ago that I kept trying to learn old HH, until it eventually clicked, it's been one of my favourite weapons and adept HH in GU is my addiction. I've been so excited for the change but the hype died down after release. I kept looking at every guide to see if I'm missing something, or doing something wrong. I wanted to wait for your tutorial and here it is. I'm happy to say I'm no longer confused, but I'm really sad to realize that I absolutely do not like new HH. You yourself said that you could do whatever combos you like, and I really do not like that. if it all does similar damage with slightly different angles, I really don't see why I should care about doing the combos, which is something I loved about old horn. You have a few moves each with its own trajectory, but you have songs to guide which moves you plan to do next. And speaking of songs, the new song system is just sad to play with, I find myself doing one of each attack the perform, or magnificent trio, and violla all 4 songs! now what? it's so easy to keep the songs to the point where I don't see why they just don't become a permanent passive buff for you, that doesn't apply for active buffs like heals but they're also so easy it hardly matters. I really find myself finding no joy, challenge or satisfaction from mindless button mashing even after learning kick up and some other moves. no satisfaction from lining up songs and decking a wyvern in the face with a big recital hit, I miss strong perform attacks. by all means this is a success for the weapon, except for a few people like me. its great seeing this awesome weapon get the love it always deserved but I find myself not enjoying rise much as a whole because no weapon fills the void that HH once did. I've tried all weapons, I like most but none stand out. I waited for this guide to see one thing thay could change my mind but sadly no, this weapon is no longer for me. Hope everyone has an absolute blast dooting and booting. maybe a compromise with at least the singing system next game is enough for me, I'd hope but I'll be holding out for years.

Edit: I have only played the demo so if there is anything inaccurate about this please tell me. I appreciate that the self improvement is separate from the note attacks, if it was in a older Monster Hunter game then that could have opened up the song list to include more effects and songs, but that would be too complex and people would be scared off even though it's not that complicated. For bringing new hunters to the horn it's appreciated, sorry for moaning about what could have been rather than appreciating what we have.

Actually about the Earth Shaker move. I never get the same amount of damage output with the sound wave at the end. Unless I'm keeping my weapon in the same sharpness constantly. It goes based of raw damage of the weapon and the grade of sharpness you have currently when using the move. White I got 636, blue 536, green 436-463. I never go lower than green so I can't relay the rest of the numbers I get.

I'm not gonna lie I'm sad that people are picking up the hunting horn so much in rise. Since tri it's been my favorite and it's been the least played weapon in every game since its introduction. It made it feel uniqe and special. And now everyone's playing it because it's "easy" which is not what it was supposed to be. Its supposed to be a complicated but high reward for those who can get good at it.

You really shouldn't be. I've been playing HH since 3U (i started with Tri) and adore the weapon and still say it has quite a bit of nuance to it still, but now more people will appreciate it. Honestly, the only serious change is the recitles and repeating songs and frankly I'm sort of glad they're gone. I didn't play in World unfortunately, however in GU the animation I frames didn't kick in until the notes played and you could easily be flinched out in G rank making it only used by people who were in multiplayer or by people using high defensive armour which limited the sets you could make. This is way better. Sure, I miss it a little but I don't miss being flinched or stunned before I can get a note off!😆

Some people will probably get upset at you for saying it, but yeah I totally feel the same way. I've been using it since MHFU, and the changes that the 3rd and 4th generation MHs added were the right kind of changes to make it more accessible and powerful. With Rise, it just feels more like they looked solely at its popularity, and decided that to "fix" it, they needed make it much more powerful and simple. Sure it's more effective and easy to use now, but it kind of lost its identity (and that weirdness that made it so interesting to begin with) in the process.

That intro brings me back to 4U when I was looking to get into a new weapon and I was told about Gaijin Hunters tutorials. His Charge Blade tutorial opened my world up to want to try new weapons more and more as each new release came. I started as a Gunlance main with Hunting Horn alt in Freedom Unite and it wasn't until I wanted a better solo Weapon to use in 4U that I decided to get into something other than Gunlance (which I was admittedly trash at due to not knowing what I was doing). Thank you Gaijin for being my Monster Hunter Guide.

Also a nice combo loop I use. X+a(pound)...a(kick)...X( 3 hit pound)...A looping kickback to X again to earth shaker. Not the biggest damage combo, but the loop does hold the player steadily in front of your target. No messing with any directional this and that. Fantastic on knock downs and focussing on parts. Love your content. Keep it coming.

Personally I‘m playing a build that focuses around annoying the monster as much as possible (max stamina thief, max slugger, max evade extender, max paralysis attack for 23 par, max bludgeoner with long green sharpness) while keeping me and my team as healthy as possible (horn maestro, max recovery up, health recovery songs on rampage horn, echo mode, though I do play with earthshaker as switching it for bead of resonance removes one of my greatest sources of damage) and it’s so much fun! >:D

Thanks for the very easy explanation of the basic kit for HH Gaijin. A lil addendum for your part at 6:43 about draw attacks. While yes, the normal X, A, and X+A inputs are a 2 step process for hunters to choose which note they want to start with, they can also initiate a draw attack by doing a perform (ZR) while the weapon is sheathed (in the event of a wirefall or a change of location) just a lil something that can also be done that might've been missed, I'm not too sure how many hunters actually engage the monsters with a perform but its there (prob more useful when your get the 1st switch skill so you can preload b4 fighting the monster, which wouldn't be mentioned this video)

Question for players who are better or understand Rise better than myself. If playing all three notes gives you all your buffs, why would you use any other attack pattern during your hunts? I played horn as early as World and just don't understand the simplicity change between games.
@sabata2

I'm very conflicted about the changes in Rise. Capcom has always been trying to make the Hunting Horn less of a Corner-Buffer and more a direct weapon, but this incarnation feel like it has let go of the weapon's roots too much. I loved the concept of the Double Note in Generations. I loved the Song Queue in World, as well as the visual indicator to your buffs. Both were built to allow skilled play the ability to keep songs up with less effort. But this... this makes the songs a secondary aspect to the horn instead of the primary one. There are now ONLY THREE songs per horn. And those songs literally get played without you thinking about it. I think that, not discarding Rise's changes, the following would be the best implementation of the Hunting Horn: 1) Songs require the Recital to actually take effect. (Recital grants Self Improvement) 2) Self Improvement has 2 Stages like in World. 3) Songs can be queued like in World, but not directly selected for recital like in world. 4) Songs are 2~3 Notes long as opposed to 3~4. (This allows a possibility of ~18 songs per horn if taken full advantage of, but maintains the ease of songs introduced in Rise while not accepting the 3 song limit) 5) Recital will take more and more time the more songs built into the queue, like in World. 6) The visual indicator of what buffs you have, what level they are, and if they are about to expire (like in World) exists for everyone affected by the horn (not just the icon buffs currently seen in Rise) This would make the Recital a key component to your combat, while not being your ONLY component (looking at you i-frames). As well you would need to keep an eye on your song list so that you don't end up stuck in place for a 10-second long recital because you decided to whale on the monster instead of focus on the key component to your weapon.

If I may provide some criticism. I feel like the timing on some of the points felt off, like you would be ahead of what the video was showing. Outside of this, I feel like the lack of the titles when entering things like "Special Combos" or naming each Silkbind attack felt weird. Still, it's really awesome to see you back at doing weapon tutorials man. Have a great day

My only problem with the sound shockwaves is that they always hit the softest spot of the monster in the wave's radius or the head, if it's in range, for KO/Exhaust buildup. They aren't very good for part breaking since they'll always avoid the hard spots.
@Highlaw

Interesting choice to leave out silkbinds and different attacks. Perhaps it would be best to title the video "Basic/Quick Tutorial" and even leave an indicator like "Part 1/2" so that people who are interested can then search for "Complete/Advanced Tutorial" also indicated with a "Part 2/2" if they want to see what the other silkbinds do. I'm aware this is vaguely explained within the video and description, but 90% of people only click based on thumbnail and title - it would also really help in the future when looking up your videos to be aware that there's some sort of continuation, instead of thinking this is a 1-off tutorial and then realise there's more to it and not knowing what to search for in order to find the related advanced guide video - since this one seems definitive/solo based on the thumbnail and title.

Amaizing video, short and to the point, very clear and well executed as always. Your videos were the ones that helped me to understand and play mh4u (my first one) so thanks for the thousands of hours of fun. The idea of separating the switch skills into another video seems great for new players but only time will tell. Meanwhile, only 2 notes (hehe). About the magnificent trio, the wording could be a little bit clearer about the need to play the 3 notes, it isn't clear that the 3 notes have to be in the "partiture", or whatever is called the 4 notes arrengement at the top, at the same time. Also, just as a personal preference I need to say that I liked better the cuts in your older videos, this style is more fluid but the cuts that you did in other guides helped a lot more to ilustrate what are you talking about in an specific moment, because when you don't know the weapon, some inputs aren't super clear (like the dual blades). The general timing you're using in this video seems ok but, again as a personal preference, I think it could be tighter. Other than that great video as always, and even if I know a lot more of this game, to this day your content is always helpful, enjoyable and a great inspiration. Thank you.

Now that I've played rise for so long, I'm beginning to think the perfect Hunting Horn load our would be a combination of the world, rise, and GU horns. Worlds move set +the echo note from iceborne, GU's double note mechanic and song list with the only slight modification being the double notes just acts like you played the song twice. And rises performance mode with the right trigger having a new note to go with it, a beat note as I been calling it. Where we remove the echo notes shock wave attacks and put it onto that instead. Meaning echo note only makes bubbles. And like I said since we'd be using performance mode, it would mean playing out all the notes will have the song activate immediately. But also like I said we would use the old song list, so attack up would be purple red light blue purple and not just red red. That's my thoughts anyways. I guess only other minor things to mention is that since the game uses the double eighth note for the X+A input, visually they can use what is known as a staccato note to show you hit the monster with the attack. Also I guess maestro can be a 2 tier thing again where lvl1 makes songs come out at the start of the note that activates the song like in rise, with lvl 2 making songs last longer like maestro use to do in the older games. Infernal melody also coming back would be cool but I can take or leave that one. Anyways like I said, that's just my thoughts on what the perfect HH could be like. One mechanic I hope we never lose is the draw into neutral that we have in rise, no matter what they do with the HH in the future.

That one hit during Multi Crush is reminiscent of an attack from world that had sever damage. Any idea if HH can still sever a tail, I haven't been able to test it yet. Obviously this would only be really useful for hunting solo, as HH focusing the tail in a multiplayer hunt doesn't really make sense.

I'm a complete novice to MH and I can safely say that this is the best weapon for noobies to start with because it's so straight forward. Press all the colours and then hit the nuke button, repeat. I still needed a few tutorials to show me what was happening but I went from being smoked by Mizutsune to kicking its ass really quickly consistently. The other weapons are cool and I wanna learn them eventually. Hunting horn is so intuitive now that I bought MH Rise because of it!

5:28 "You don't need to have all three music notes on the music staff, either" - not quite. The trigger for readying the Magnificent Trio is for all three colour notes to be on the music staff simultaneously at any one point. If the newest note pushes one of the other colours off the staff entirely, you don't ready the Magnificent Trio, even if you would have otherwise played every note colour. Not that this is a problem or makes it much harder to work with, granted. But it's worth noting. Once it is readied, however, you are free to do what you want as it will never be consumed without you executing the attack in full. Even if you get interrupted, you can try again, so that's nice, at least.

Worth noting, Multi-crush -> Kick Up -> Multi-crush is also an infinite combo. Eats through sharpness like nothing else, but at least that little poke does some cutting damage if a tail is close to coming off.
