It’s worth noting you can move at a crawl speed while guarding and and while doing so you will regain stamina slowly, while you will not regain stamina while guarding standing still. So it’s almost always worth crawling around slowly to make sure you keep your stamina from dropping too low, and keep yourself facing any incoming threats.

Small correction - unlike in past games, you can do the larger back hop more than once in the 3-hop sequence, just not twice in a row. So you can do large back hop->small hop->large back hop. With Evade Extender this gives INSANE distance. Similar to wide sweep in the 3-poke combo, where you can do sweep->poke->sweep (just not 2 sweeps in a row).
@100hundert3 жыл бұрын

A few things I want to add as a lance veteran: 1. After the guard dash, if you press A to use the leaping thrust, this counts as move 1 in the thrust combo. This adds an alternate loop for elemental builds. 2. The jump during the dash can be used to vault over certain monsters when they're downed. This is notable because in solo play, a downed monster usually falls with it's feet towards the player. With practice, you can vault over the monster and to a reverse attack to break the back if that's something you need for a part. I know for sure this can be done on Mizutsune, because I discovered it while farming it's fins last night. 3. Be very careful using Guard Up against certain monsters, the final boss of the hub is a notable one. Many of these normally unblockable attacks (such as the beams fired by the final boss of the hub) actually hit many times in rapid succession, but when you don't block, you get sent flying and are thus only hit once due to invulnerability when airborne. HOWEVER, with Guard Up, this is removed, and the attack can hit several times in a second, erase you stamina, and result in more damage than eating the attack normally. 4. When guarding and standing still, your stamina will lot recover. However, if you move around while guarding (which is something the lance can do but many shield weapons can't) your stamina will recover. It's slower than during idle, but it can make a difference when blocking a multitude of attacks. Thanks Badger's Den for reminding me about this one.

@Gadsmarr3 жыл бұрын
Per second? Yes it does big damage but does its dps hold up? Also... the joy of lance is quick precise attacks. The wide sweep when charged is powerful, but less precise to aim. I think on the dummy is may outdps but take a monster like rajang when enraged, and it just isn't practical. I may be wrong but thats my speculation. Be nice to me. Lol
@epic42423 жыл бұрын
@@Gadsmarr It definitely isn't something that you can do the entire hunt, but if you are using anchor rage rather than the other skill, it's the best option on a downed monster assuming you can hit the weakspot. The charged widesweep does about as much damage as all three pokes in about the same time as two pokes without as much repositioning.
@AhChaac3 жыл бұрын
@@Gadsmarr Nah, the sweep is still practical. Of course it's not very spamable like our traditional combos but is nonetheless important to get used to. Hey another Lance main here to help you, You forgot to mention that after blocking a strong hit, if you get into that idle animation where you are been pushed, you can convert it into power guard, which means you press B after been pushed (no knocked back, just pushed) and you can go from there to 3 options, one of them is the charge (X+A), so you are always on the monster tail even if you couldnt block it fully . also, I dont suggest using guard trust for waking up a monster, id suggest the swipe move, even if you get propulsed by the explosion its so easy to get back right in the action with the wirebug recover, I'd say the 250 dmg youll get from a swipe charge on a sleeping monster is more worth than a 60 hit from a guard trust. Great Tutorial as always, this game is so complexe it's hard to know everything right away. :D

Pro lance tip for Offensive Guard: -Place Large Bomb -unsheathed Guard -backhop -guard thrust bomb -Immediately use either Anchor Rage or Spiral Thrust This triggers Both Offensive Guard & your silkbind buff And you counter attack with said buffs. With Anchor Rage(and no guard) Large Bombs give red buff And Mega Bombs give orange buff. Spiral Thrust always gives blue buff Offensive Guard Anchor Rage Spiral Thrust Buffs are all approx. 10 seconds.

Brainstorming: Twin vine would be neat if it was one bug or acted like the assist palico's silkbind harpoon keeping the monster grounded or close by. Side note: Something they could add to the lance that I thought of, Imagine if lance could quickly charge up a powerful poke at the cost of stamina. Or if some pokes shot out a short ranged cone of air (like corkscrew thrust from MHGU) And it behaved like the HH shockwave, fixed damage. The shockwave hit wouldn't use up sharpness. Or let us spend all our stamina (Gradually) for a flurry of pokes in quick succession (kinda like the Dual blades demon dance that has 3 parts and you press attack to continue to the next part)

Late to the rise party, but despite what I heard people say, the lance is absolutely fantastic. In the video you mention how there are 2 things you can do after you finish a 3 hit combo, that being evading or countering, but from my experience, the best thing to do a backwards guard advance and then do a jumping poke. It takes a bit longer than an evade, but the damage output is clearly higher, and you also have the benefit of being a bit more precise with your hits, since you can slightly change your direction. I over utilize this combo like crazy. And yea, funny thing, the guard advance can be used in all 4 directions. Who woulda guessed?! Well... Me, I guess... Anyways I know this is all known information, but I love the lance, and I felt like sharing my favorite strategy with the weapon, so yea.

shield dash imo is the bread and butter connection in between combos, since it guards you during the animation and you can transition seamlessly into another attack, if you’re still in danger you’ll still be in the guard stance after the motion is over, or you can chain it with another step. Another important fact about the shield dash is that it procs offensive guard pretty easily, reposition as much as possible with shield dash can give you good coverage of the skill since you’ll constantly proc offensive guard.

Another thing about power guard is that is also doesn't drain stamina when hit and actually stops it from decreasing when you do, making it very good for guarding multi-hit attacks that could normally drain your stamina and force you to eat a hit.
@CiromBreeze3 жыл бұрын
Though you shouldn't over-rely on it for multi-hits. While your stamina doesn't go down, your HEALTH will. Even small knockback attacks which the Lance usually takes no chip damage from will deal 10% damage in Power Guard, while large knockback attacks deal 30% damage instead of the usual 20%.

The amount of chip damage from some hr monsters makes the use of guard up lv3 almost mandatory if like me you never want to sheathe a weapon to heal during a quest. also the ability of guarding any attack is really cool in many situations and greatly increases dps against some monsters. On the other hand, guard only decreases stamina depletion when guarding and knockback. Sure it's a good thing to have but not as game changing as the effects of guard up.

It's very important to master the second dash to position yourself to the monster head so that you can do the last hit. Many speedrun user is using the dodge and come back attack to get good times. But if anyone can master parry and come back attack.... You get a 1.1 boost plus OG3 1.15 attack boost. Highest damage i did was around 1.2k

@@weefred830 yeah, the deepening on if you cam land tge seconds on or not, it can make or break that silkbind imo. Still using it because it's fun to use even when missing the target.

@@jet-blackjo2455 incase you didn't notice, after the first dash of spiral thrust, there's a 1 second pause that allows you to decide where you want to aim for the second dash. So, don't hold on the analog. Let go the analog after the first dash and proceed to decide where you want to go before pushing the analog again.

Constitution is also a great skill for Lancers (especially those without Guard for them Anchor Rage buffs), as it reduces the stamina loss when guarding (or evading, if you're into Evade Lancing) Also, a note about Power Guard: It actually reduces the damage blocked by 10%. Normally, the Lance blocks 80%-100% of the damage based on how much knockback you take (more knockback = more chip damage), while Power Guard reduces that to 70%-90%. The guard power doesn't get any stronger, so if you take large knockback in standard guard (80%), you're taking large chip damage in Power Guard (70%)

Quick Sheath is super nice for knockout build. Use a switch skill not covered here, shield charge, in your loadout. Then you can regular wirebug at the monsters face and press ZR to shield bash, and transition into to two more shield hits when you touch the ground. Closes gaps, doesn't burn up stamina like grounded shield charge, lets you fill in the gap when twin vines isn't active.

Here's a Lance Tip: If you are guarding, keep moving while doing so, this will make you regen stamina. This is useful for guarding multiple attacks.

I'm never saying I'm a main of this or that weapon because it often changes on my mood, HOWEVER Lance has to be my favorite weapon at the moment. It's aggressive, yet defensive and i like this.

Lance is my first love in World. Then I moved onto S&S in Iceborn and am now trying Greatsword in Rise. While it took some time to get used to compared to almost every other weapon, I feel as if I was playing on easy mode with the lance. I love guard dash and never really see the need for normal hops. After watching this, I'm tempted to go back.

I picked up this weapon inbetween the end of World/Iceborne and the release of Rise and after a short while of bumbling around and learning things bit by bit its now just my most used weapon, even passing the Greatsword as my most used and by a wide margin too, its just so much fun.

I've been a lance main since PSP days. The silkbind leash is just so hilarious to use, especially on a high mobility monster. You basically role play as a vespoid.

Just one thing you missed. You can press Guard when performing a Dash Attack to stop your momentum and hold the shield up being able to block an attack instantly. Helpful if you start charging at a monster and realize it turns on you for an attack.
