I recently saw an interview where Terry said that Good Omens was 75 percent written by him. It's also Gaiman's work, and I can't discount his work on the series' scripts, but the foundation always seems to be more Terry than Neil Gaiman. That Neil seems to value Terri's legacy more than his own ego is a good thing. I wish the whole story never happened, but I'm glad the women were able to tell their truth. And I think it's a good thing that Neil will hopefully be replaced. I believe in a team that loves Good Omens as much as we do, and will try their best to do good for Terry, and, let's not forget, for Neil too.

Yes it is correct to not condemn anyone just based on words and without listening to the other side and cancel culture Is very very problematic BUT we don't have only words alone. The podcasts made a really good job in working through text messages, emails, voice messages. There were witnesses and friends of the two women in the podcasts and everything seemed to be very Very believable. Unless all of that is faked, and I don't believe professional journalists would have any interest in doing that because they would almost certainly lose theire jobs, there really is too much proof to deny any of the allegations. Also two more things that bother me about what you said. Women RARELY get believed in these cases because women never get taken at face value and suddenly everyone is always like "well women can lie too", especially when the allegations are against a famous man. The least one can do, especially with this overwhelming amount of proof, is believing and supporting a survivor of sexual assault. Secondly WHY would someone fake allegations like this? What interest would they have in mind? It is hard work, it is emotionally draining, you are in constant fear of getting found out and you get absolutely nothing out of it. Hell, you even get negatives out of it. Online hate, threats, suddenly being all over the media. People always seem to think that women who make allegations like this just want their little piece of fame but first of all they stayed anonymous and second of all you never ever ever get fame out of that, it is always in every case just online and real life hate and threats. You probably didn't mean ill by what you said, but as a surviver of sexual assault it takes so so much courage and energy to come forward with this, all knowing that probably nobody will believe you, probably you will get retraumatised, probably the case will be dropped, that most women don't report their cases because the cons outweight the pros. All this times 1000 against someone this famous. So when someone works up the courage and makes themselves go through all of this it is a hard punch to the gut to getting dismissed by "Well women lie too. " so please think about your words more carefully and reflect your own bias against someone you look up to. Especially, again, with this overwhelming amount of proof.

I don‘t see how this is happening, since Pratchett can no longer contribute to the storyline. Gaiman has his faults, and him stepping down is a necessary decision, but however badly he behaved towards women, I don‘t believe that he held any of Pratchett‘s drafts back.

Given that I know Gaiman's association with the show can't be entirely removed, I'm sure this whole mess will end in the loss of at least some fans regardless. But it seems like him at least stepping back from the more front-facing side of things would probably be the best case scenario for fans who are still hoping to see the final season made. I'm generally in agreement that it would be a shame to see the work of so many people go to waste because of one guy. Good Omens is more than just Neil Gaiman, something I think has been easy for people to forget because of how involved he's been in production and how ever-present he's been in the fandom. And it isn't like the show is some new random project. Amazon has already invested so much into it over the years, and I highly doubt they want to throw it all away without looking at every possible option. I'm not going to sit here and deny to myself that my desire to see the show go on is about anything but my own selfish attachment to the universe and its characters. I'm not going to deny or downplay the work Neil Gaiman has done on the book and the show as I've seen some fans trying to do in order to rationalize this. Neil is clearly smart, talented, and wickedly funny. But he's also a human being, and human beings are capable of making harmful decisions and hurting others. So if he hurt those women, then I hope for justice and peace for them, first and foremost. I HOPE the whole show isn't sacrificed as a result, but if it is, then... c'est la vie, I suppose.

I think TBH, some fans will be campaigning about boycotting etc. But the general public genuinely don't even know or care. This is always shown in practice, people watch stuff anyhow. Look at Mel Gibson or the recent Will Smith film that was number one. I think most people don't really read celeb stories, very few would listen to Rachel Johnson's podcast. I expect Amazon know that as long as the story doesn't take off during a promo period, the show will still do well. Also... I'm gonna say it, I bet those fans who insist they'll boycott will just watch it. They won't be able to resist.

It isn't especially mainstream knowledge at this point and not everyone is deeply entrenched in the fandom. I'd go so far as to say most people are not closely following the social media fan communities or searching for every tidbit of news about the show that they can find. And even then, I agree that a lot of people who find out won't care. At least not enough to completely drop the show.

If Gaiman steps back as show runner, I would prefer if they don't bring anyone new and someone who's been with the Good Omens show from the beginning replaces him. We don't need someone who would try to make it his or her owns show and attempt to diminish Pratchett's and Gaiman's creative influence. People who have already worked on GO are familiar with the show in a way that a newcomer could never be.

@@Sendarya I’m gonna use this opportunity to say my peace. I appreciate your GO content a lot and found your thematic deep dives super interesting and illuminating, which is why I subscribed. I also think the idea to bring the fandom news in an 'unbiased' way is meant well, but in cases such as these it has the unfortunate effect of treating NG and the allegations with supposed neutrality. But neutrality isn’t really possible because by giving NG the benefit of the doubt you automatically ascribe the same doubt to the victim’s accounts. I see no reason to doubt their stories. And statistically SA/rape accusations are overwhelmingly likely to be true. (Personally I’d amp up the chances of them being true even more if the man in question is rich, white, powerful, influential, respected and revered. Nobody has to gain anything from coming up against THAT.) We also all know that people in power abuse said power all the time. With all that said, I’m convinced you don’t mean any harm. But I do think trying to be neutral towards someone credibility accused of rape/SA, is false-balancing and will ateotd benefit the perpetrator to the detriment of victims speaking out. Seeing the video title and thumbnail and then the actual part where you speculate why NG made his offer etc. even come off as positive towards him. At least they did to me. If you believe his victims, then it’s actually quite galling to think he’s still in the position to make any offers in the first place. I’d prefer him far far away from GO and the cast and crew. I also don’t think it’s relevant why he made the offer. I don’t know if that’s what you meant by saying people look for negativity in an already difficult situation, but you might better understand where they’re coming from now. Anyway, I’ve found the little corner of fandom you’ve created here is unfortunately not a place I can be at ease anymore. Given that the majority if not the entirety of the show has already been written I find that Gaiman leaving shouldn't really have a huge impact on what comes after as it moves into production. Personally, I am a little concerned for him stepping back not because I'm a fan of him but because I believe in the vision for Good Omens he shared with Terry Pratchett. Whoever comes and steps into his place will need to share that vision and love for the characters more than trying to make a name for themselves. That being said I don't think Season 3 needs to be overly complicated anyway. We know from the end of Season 2 that there's going to be some conflict that inevitably ends up being resolved and hopefully with Aziraphale and Crowley being together. Really, so long as that simple plot comes to fruition I think a lot of fans will be accepting and happy with the ending.

I have hope that Good Omens won’t be canceled. The show gave Amazon a ton of money. It’s so loved and Good Omens was a HUGE project. I feel like it won’t just be abandoned. And the fact that Amazon paused production means that they don’t want it canceled. I feel like if Neil Gaiman was fired from his job, like said, someone could take his place. I've listened to the allegations, and I don't think any legal action is likely. That's often how SA cases go, there's rarely enough evidence to do anything. What's happening to him right now is likely going to be the worst he suffers, and the podcast(s) are likely to be the best voice the women can expect at this point. Which is sad as those podcasts were atrocious, and did these women few favors.

Gaiman's silence makes sense. SA is a legal matter, so he isn't able to publicly respond until he's gathered records and gone over everything in court. SA accusations always leave me uncertain how to feel, because on one hand there's a long history of SA victims being disregarded, but on the other hand studies have found we have a nasty habit of assuming "guilty until proven innocent." I suppose the best we can do is simply wait and see.

It's possible, considering their ongoing activism for marginalized groups, that David and Michael would not want to tarnish the show, and their hard earned reputations, with Gaiman's mess. It must be incredibly difficult as the three seemed to have a friendship outside the show. Although I appreciate his offer to step aside, it sounds like he can't be removed completely, and I'm conflicted about whether I want him to be. It's so difficult in these situations. If he's innocent, he's paying a horrible price, but if he's guilty, can he ever be absolved? Can the show be given the love and attention that it deserves in the creation of season 3 without Gaiman? Or would his presence disturb everyone, and poison the creative process? Ultimately the decision lies with Amazon. They are financing the show, and could be the target of backlash if they support Gaiman, as well as have some liability for creating a hostile work environment if he is an active part of the creative team. They may already be getting some negative feedback from the activist community. It's all just so sad, and frustrating and disappointing.

BUT there are right and wrong approaches and there are also people using the compassion of others to get not justice but smth else and these are the ones to make us less believable. Gaiman has denied committing crimes, but in the process he has not denied having sexual relationships with women over whom he has power such as a nanny 20 years younger than himself, whom he took to bed within hours of meeting, and a tenant with whom he exchanged sex for rent.

My take of the situation is the following: - The scripts for S3 are finished and NG's been paid for that. He's no longer needed. - The crew (probably led by Terry Pratchett's estate and DT) have been pushing to kick NG out behind the scenes. - A negotiation between Amazon and NG has been taking place to force NG out. NG was resisting. - The negotiation got stuck because NG refused to go. - Amazon stopped production and leaked the news to pressure on NG to accept their proposal and to test the fandom waters - Most fandom has reacted saying we're not only ok with NG being kicked out but we even welcome it - NG has accepted he needs to go and his PR has leaked the second piece of news to make it look like it is NG the one offering to step down to protect the production (we don't know the economic compensation he is asking for). -Now Amazon just needs to negotiate the price for him to leave (and that will not be leaked) - if Amazon and NG reach an agreement, NG will be kicked out for good and we will have S3. In order for that to happen, Fandom's pressure is essential.

I would like to think about person is innocent until proven guilty. I appreciate that he has offered to step back if it makes sure the show gets done. While I don't like saying the women were lying, but until.we've heard more, for all we know this could be another Johnny Depp situation, or even a matter of perspective or perception. I want Season 3 ans I want it to be as true to Pratchett and Gaiman's original story as possible.

I see some people noticing that while Gaiman has denied committing crimes, he has emphatically not denied pursuing sexual relationships with women over whom he had considerable power who are in vulnerable positions, such as bedding a nanny 20 years younger than him within hours of meeting her, and pressuring a tenant of his to exchange sex for rent. It's certainly true these women could be lying. But as you can see in the reaction these accusers have gotten, the risk in coming forward (risks of being immediately doubted and denigrated and even attacked both online and in real life) generally outweigh any positives. Some of the accusers have voided contracts whereby they received money for their silence, so they'll likely suffer financially. The word of ordinary women is generally doubted while the word of a famous, popular man is generally accepted, as you can see from this thread. The actions he's accused of are generally not crimes, so they will most likely never go "to trial." Actions don't have to be against the law to be immoral, unethical, callous, cruel, or wrong. And people are free to draw conclusions from the evidence available. Since Gaiman has chose to remain silent--which is absolutely his right and, yes, doesn't guarantee he's culpable--we have to judge the best we can from what is currently in the public domain.

If you search KZbin alone (let alone AO3, Reddit, Tumblr, and most other social media) for "season 2 Good Omens" you'll find tens of thousands (if not more) posts, videos, memes, essays, discussions, compilations, cosplays, animations, reviews, visual artworks, fan stories, and other media that will answer your question. Amazon probably wouldn't have renewed it for a third season if you were the only person who liked s2.

@@StrangeFacinations no idea, it was great, we saw more of their history, Crowley's influence on Aziraphale, we got to learn more of their lore with a new mystery of where they go when they're truly stripped of their roles, a promotion, progress with their ship, I liked the new human characters (I'd rather follow the stories of two women over a bunch of little kids), we had a sweet and catchy recurring song too. Loved it.

Because I do not really know where I stand right now. Should I "cancel" a project because of a person I cannot condone, but there are so many more people involved in it!

I believe everyone has to make their own decision about something like this. There are more than two positions to take. You have to evaluate how you feel, and go with what is morally acceptable to yourself. It's never easy.
