Playing realistic and aim maps gets you results insanely fast compared to just grinding BR. I think many people end up becoming rats because they try to get a rank out of the range of their combat skill level. Also I can vouch for rank solos being the fastest way you can improve your gameplay and decision making. Most people don't even bother playing solo and only play duo or squad. I think that only playing duos and squads handicaps your skill level because 90% of decisions are team decisions and when that isnt happening most people just autopilot around until the next team decision is made. Playing solo is almost like playing a fighting game where pattern recognition and quick decision making is standard.

Yes, yes and yes!!! I feel like you’re speaking to me. And really take this post to heart. I wasted ranked on my main acct to get the umbrella and am waaaayy out of my league. I rarely play solo b/c I have kids and there’s always someone to play with but problem is they’re MUCH better than I am. They inherited their fathers game sense/skill. Even my 7 yr old is pretty darn good. So while we win 80-90% of games, I’m not improving. My 14 yr old has over 50 crown wins. She’s amazing… but I’m forever being carried by her so I have to step out of the comfort zone and play solos… at least a few games a day 😉

the reason ppl don't play ranked solos so much is at least so far in this chapter its hasn't been worth it. for the first two seasons you got 3rd partied from 300m away by a Reaper Sniper you never knew was there, ratted by a kid hiding in a stairwell, or beaten by chains. Now you get run over by a spiked bumper on a car, fisted into next week, and with the magneto stuff you you now to get have rocks hurled at you. Its just not fun and its not worth it

@@CrazyGamerJC-YT Theres ways to avoid a lot of the problems in the game when you play solos cars being the only exception because they force people to team in solo. I think its almost impossible for players to avoid dying to these sorts of things even if its duos or squads. I would argue that playing solo gives you better uptime for your practice because when you die you go back to lobby instead waiting 2-8 minutes to get rebooted

Imo red vs blue maps have helped me alot, especially the one you played in the beginning. If you use relevant weapon load outs and everything it can really help you practice your aim, weapon swapping and movement

No kidding. You have to go at it with a brain. Don’t use the cheese weapons. Work on weapon swaps, aim and some movement. If you can’t win your fights here, you won’t anywhere else. Plus Don’t expect this to be the only practice you will ever need to improve.

3rd partying is part of the game, you always need to be ready for it so I don’t believe reducing the player count is the best way to improve and get better game sense since you mathematically get in less than half as many fights

I agree. However, you also need to consider the size of the map and how much and how fast you can cover ground with the available mobility. Personally, I really like Shinobi FFA and think it is really balanced. The only comment I have about it is that he could bump the number of player per match a little, maybe 10 is a good quantity. I wish I could play more often, but I’m brazilian, so my ping is often too high.

Yeah I definitely think shockwaves is probably best to just be bought instead of infinitely spawning. Otherwise players rely on it too much instead of using cover properly and having better movement. They either jump on people or shock straight up.

One don't give up 2 always keep at least one shock wave in my slot if 3rd party and 4 watch my game play over and over again.

Toby: I've been playing FN around 7 months now, I've had experienced vets and even some Twitch streamers ask me how I became skilled so fast. I told them I practice 3 hours a day on creative. The map I use is red vs blue by Typicalgamer. The average player on this map is pretty sweaty, not many novice players. There isn't a speed boost, or nametags. There is however a speed boost in a spin wheel for coins but the players who luckily get speed are usually novice. You mentioned these maps are full of chaos and just 50/50's, thing is I don't care what guns they use, I use guns that are in Pubs and usually kill the players using Exotic weapons, another thing is, anybody can use positioning and tactics to worm their way to victory, but NOT everybody can rush in and win 2v1's in a 50/50. Also I've played your map, no disrespect but imo its just a bunch of sweats shockwaving around constantly hitting me in the back

It's fun for sure, but you saying my map is just a bunch of sweats is a signal that you haven't played much realistic maps where players take full advantage of the sandbox movement and hit their shots. No problem with playing red vs blue, again it's good for aim and movement practice - but real BR games are won with positioning and tactics, in combination with mechanics - which is not what red vs blue will teach you.

@@TobyWanShinobi I play Duo's quite often, I win in 2v1 situations frequently, the one's I lose is either the team has better guns or get a lucky snipe, magneto hit, tow hook. But end game when I have gold-mythic weapons, it's just a matter of who has the high ground and can land shots. No I've played your map, I played it yesterday and got 17 kills. Even won a few 3rd party situations. It can be interpreted as a signal sure or it can be a signal that I don't wanna sweat against 3rd parties and vet's on a practice map...

If you feel like red vs blue is continuing to strengthen your weaknesses, that's great. But for me, I realized it was making me take constant 50/50s in BR, not use cover, and ego challenge everyone because they should be "easy."

Well I of course use cover, and positions, I just know when to push and when not to, looking for openings. But when I do push its usually risky most of the time its 50/50's. I used your tips on to land far damage and then push. So I kinda balance out 50/50's and defense

@@cyzukay007 Honestly, that tells me you haven't done a lot of VOD reviews of your gameplay and analyzed it deeply. Everyone has the "weakness" of not landing enough headshots and getting shot in the back. Those are not real weaknesses. Perhaps for the top .01% of players that is their weakness, because they've perfected everything else - but for 99.99% of players, they have much more glaring issues to work out. And this is where red vs blue doesn't help because everything just comes down to "hit more shots, get shot less." there isn't strategy involved - its not realistic to BR. Perhaps your issue is combat decision making or lack of utility use. 3rd parties shouldn't be a problem in FFA, because you should have enough utility to deal with them and be able to use your environment to turn the fight around - just like a normal BR game.

Great advice as always thanks. I play on the Asian server from the Philippines. Unfortunately, I’ve loaded into your ZB Realistic FFA map many times and have not yet ever found any player in there. I don’t suppose there’s anything you can do about that. I have a similar problem with Ranked on the Asian server. At season start its ok with maybe a 2 to 3 minute load-in time, but as soon as I’ve reached Platinum (last 3 seasons) I’ve never had a match made so I’ve never had a game at Platinum level (or above). I’ve waited as long as 35 minutes and then just give up (any warmup I did is long since cold!) I’d be interested to know if anybody else on the Asian server has a similar or different experience. So just got done playing the Shinobi FFA for awhile. Love the whole set up, the current season’s guns and the ability to get the mythics is sweet. Do I feel I got any better? No. Big problem was the dickwads that we’re ten times better than 98% of the other people. They are running around constantly killing everybody else and you couldn’t get any actual good battles going.

Question for the master: When does it all pay off? I've worked hard to improve. My reward...is being put in lobbies where I will NEVER get a win. My son...same. He has improved exponentially in the years since season 1. Now he and his buddies...wow. They can get Diamond ranked or whatever but they are in lobbies that are so sweaty that they are just forced to hide out and not take fights or they will never finish top 10. Anyway, so he has quit playing. Now I just run AFK XP maps for him to level up enough to complete the battle pass and get his rewards/skins for the season. Poor reward for someone who is untouchable from my point of view but is otherwise fodder for sweats.

That is one of the reasons I don't recommend it for skill improvement, a lot of broken and unrealistic things to be used or used against you. Additionally all players have passive abilities that aren't found in games (25% speed boost at all times, wall hacks at all times)

Ok so my experience so far is that I load into a lobby and someone has nitro fists and is just stomping on me or running away with the fists until they heal. I don't see were they got fists from and if I want to practice I would rather the equipment be even, and not just get stomped because I dont have fists. Everyone also instantly puts a drum on their shotgun, which doesn't help me practice ,since very rarely will I just go into Br with a drum on my shotgun right away, but I have to here because everyone else is doing it.

actually you just said " I don't like your map because it replicates real game scenarios" Granted the fist thing is something he is trying to fix but with saved loadouts its hard. For instance I haven't been in there in weeks and when I loaded in yesterday I had a fully mythic loadout and fist, took a minute for the map to realize this and pull my stuff, but its the nature of creative. However the idea that ppl have fist and you don't or a drum and you don't are situation you will encounter in game so I am not sure what your complaint is?

Red vs Blue Rumble is unrealistic because: 1°: At the start of the map if you emote in front of the banner the place where you can like and subscribe (on the left/right side where’s the air ducts) you can get inside the cheat room, you get one mechanical part and access the secret vault. So you ask me, why is this problematic? Inside the secret vault you toss one mechanical part and inside you can get +300 hp and hidden weapons, imagine fighting someone with 100 shield + 400 normal hp? Some people know how to stay inside the cheat room and farm tons of mechanical parts, so they will pick +300 HP the WHOLE MATCH. 2°: most people use grappler to run away, problem is: the map is small so they use grappler to rush you, one pump with Mythic Havoc Pump and run away, which is very unrealistic. 3°: most players are casuals and pros are gonna use something like Skye’s AR + Mythic havoc or Heisted Accelerant + grappler + slurpfish. Most problematic is slurp fish because you just spam that item and heal while you are running away from someone. 4°: you can buy damage power up for 600 gold inside your base, it lasts 2 minutes and each kill is 50 gold. Imagine a maniac with heisted accelerant + 2x damage? Yep, you can get more than 600 gold in 2 minutes, deleting the whole lobby. I’ve at least 100+ hours on Red vs Blue but I just gave up. The Pit is bad because of infinite EMP/Boogie/Shockwaves, if someone gets mad at you they will spawn and throw bombs at your head 24/7. People might team up just to kill you if you are good.

I'm not the worst play but when ever I go on your maps I get killed in min. so its hard to really learn from my mistakes if I don't even get a chance to even fight before I'm dead. I played over 2 hours on your map and only killed 2 people which were just luck because they had no health from a fight. So I don't even count those as kills.

@@DadNoBuild-df4vn mythic weapons are removed from inventory and need to be replaced, unless the countdown timer in the center of the map (floating in the sky) is completed, then mythic weapons spawn in and can be kept until the round ends.

I like you content, but for a guy at my skill level to have stuff arbitrarily disappear after I've worked to get it just makes it too hard to play. I'm just canon fodder for the sweats. If I can keep the stuff I have a fighting chance of getting 1 to 2 kills per round.

The majority(not all)of players in the FFA map are about the same quality of player in the red vs blue. There have been times that some of the members end up teaming against a solo. Literally all in the same roof waiting for the person to respawn. I agree that this is just a promotion for the map. By saying don’t play other maps and then later saying, they can be helpful is kinda disingenuous. IMO

Great video, Toby! :) I actually enjoy playing Zero Build solo ranked. Unfortunately, I now have to wait for longer than 30 minutes and even still, I don't get a game. So I've started playing build. Hopefully it's more like cross training and won't ruin my zero build game :)

Sorry Toby but I hate build mode. It's filled with so many lazy campers! All of the destruction and trashy builds are so distracting! I stopped watching Typical Gamer for those reasons. I started watching you because you are the most creative gamer on zero build I have ever seen. I won't be watching the buil videos.

If you want to push your own map, and you really want to boost the population numbers on them as you claim, then you need to address the *severe* cultural shortcomings and sportsmanship issues that are plaguing them at the moment. Your maps don't have skill-based matchmaking (which you oddly criticize as an issue for RvB - pot calling the kettle black?), so most of the time, you've got players like Thad spending hours in the lobby just instantly dunking on everyone else all day long - so no one else even has a chance to grow. Yeah, playing harder players is important to get better, but no kid's going to get better at basketball when they go up against an NBA player who's playing full tilt. There's no sense of proportionality or sportsmanship, and thus there's no real chance at getting better on your servers. I can get better playing people who are 10% or 40% better than me. I can't get better playing people who are 300% better than me and instantly kill me as soon as I come out of spawn, or third party every fight I'm in before it's even over (so neither me nor my original opponent have a chance at a fair fight to improve). I've enjoyed most of your videos, but this naked promo - criticizing other maps when your maps suffer just as severe, if not identical, issues - is disappointing to see.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm currently working with a developer to make a mechanic that highlights the 1st place player anytime they have 10 or more kills than 2nd place. This to make things much harder for anyone going in here to "dunk on" lower skills. Additionally, the major problem is that there isn't enough players on the map so you can’t swap servers easily if one is unbalanced... therefore map promotion is necessary

@@frakking hey dude, I haven’t played this map since ranked was introduced, and only played an hour that day. I don’t think it’s fair to criticize my sportsmanship when I’ve been nothing but respectful over vc and in game. I dont enjoy dunking on lower skilled players, I usually win, then leave in those scenarios and lobby surf until I find more advanced players. If I stay in those lower skill lobbies, it’s typically so I can fight against the one higher skilled player in the lobby.

@@thad4242 I can't speak to when you last played, as I know I've given up on these maps thanks to people like you (after many different tries, over the course of several months). Based on the apparent dwindling playerbase in those servers over the course of time, it seems I'm not the only one who was driven away. But I do think it is fair to criticize your sportsmanship as reflected by the behavior I *have* witnessed. Here are some of those behaviors observed: -Dunking on players much lower-skilled than you (I'm talking ten times as many kills / ten times fewer deaths). Whether you "enjoyed it" or not, you certainly kept right on doing it - even when it became apparent that you were out of everyone else's league. -Not leaving in those scenarios - either when the skill difference was quite apparent before the round was even over, or after the round was completed. You always seemed to stick around, and when it was clear you weren't going to leave - even when called out - others (including myself) decided to leave. -Not sticking around to "fight against the one higher skilled player in the lobby." I don't know where that fantasy comes from - every game I witnessed, you were ten times better than *all* players in the lobby. There was no one that came close to being a "higher skilled player" in the lobby at your level, or even measurably between yourself and the other players in the lobby. And if you *were* gunning for someone you truly believed was "higher skilled," it certainly didn't stop you from continuing to dunk on the rest of us in the meantime. -You haven't been disrespectful on VC, but the last thing I remember you saying on VC (when called out on VC for your dunking) was something along the lines of "If you don't like playing with me, you're free to find another server to play on." Sorry, but that in-game VC statement doesn't really match your claim here that you "usually win, then leave in those scenarios and lobby surf until I find more advanced players," now does it? -I would argue that your dunking on much lower players, sticking around, not leaving, and putting the burden on *those* players to leave - when you're the odd man out who clearly doesn't fit in with the skill level of the rest of the server's population - *is* being disrespectful in-game. Read the room. Check the scoreboard. If it doesn't look like it's a remotely fair fight, then the proper sportsman-like thing to do is for *you* to leave and find a place more suitable to your skill level, allowing the other players to have a meaningful chance to train and improve (it's why they're there in the first place).ad the room.

@@frakkingmight be a hard truth, but playing against players as good as Thad is the only way anyone will ever get to that level of skill 🤷‍♂️ Toby’s map was created with the vision to help players improve, and the better you get the more players like Thad you will come across - learning how to outplay them is essential if you want to improve at Fortnite. It is completely unfair to insinuate that Thad is ruining the map because he’s winning every round. Instead of complaining maybe you should be learning ways to beat him and bettering your gameplay in the process.

@frakking I’m sorry but @thad is THE MOST respectful player I’ve encountered in my years of playing this game. Everything you have pointed out is simply the game being played and has zero to do with his sportsmanship. Your comment is full of assumptions and unfair judgments. He is a phenomenal player and the truth is that it SUCKS getting destroyed by that type of player over and over. For you to say that because he is better, he should go somewhere else, or that it is equal to a lack of sportsmanship is so unfair. Every time thad wins he immediately tries to build those around him up and not put them down. If you’ve been around many comp players (which I can guarantee by this comment you haven’t) you would think the world of him. because 95% of comp players would be toxic about winning, emoting on you, calling you names and attacking you personally. You’re interpretations of how he plays in game are simply based off wrong judgments. I’m not negating the fact that it sucks to get destroyed, but I do feel inclined to defend him, seeing as my experience with him as a person and player has done nothing but challenge me to be a better player and human.
