I worked for Rural King when I was in high school at the Henderson, KY store. This was in 2003/04, and they weren’t as big a company then. I think they only had about 3 stores in Kentucky and 2 or 3 in Tennessee. They even got stores in Florida now. I still like to shop there, but don’t miss working for them! Anyways, hope your farm operation continues to grow.

As far as land goes, a little hear a little there adds up over the years can gain a farmer an extra fifty to a hundred or more acres. Man, y’all got that farm looking pristine. Rural King blows Tractor Supply out of the water in my opinion. We don't have an AgriSupply around here, but I have ordered a few things from them online. Robert goes back tomorrow to get the tube out of his nose and should be good to go again. Hoping to have an update video here in about 2 weeks on how things are going. We should have some pretty good content in the next 3 videos.

I was contacted by a land owner asking me to farm their ground. I thought this is cool, I will be able to pick up some more ground. He wants more money per acer because he has seen the market prices go up the last several years and his current farmer will not pay what he wants. After looking at his poorly drained field that has woods on 3 sides with a rr track and woods on the 4th side, I walked around and flew my drone around to fine a ⅓ of the field had no crop on it from either flooding or animal damage. He told me what he wants pre acre. I couldn't help but laugh and offered him a ¼. He said he would get back with me, lol. I had one of my landlord ask if I could pay more for his ground because property tax went up. I showed him on paper that I had broke even on his field the last 2 years. Around here it is insane what land owner want for their rent. I'm glad you were able to get more land to farm. I have several fields that I could get more ground if I pushed the fence row back, lol.

Do you get many rocks in your soil? Here in northern Michigan we always brought up rocks when we plowed and disked. We built a dumping rock box on the back of the disc to help with field clean up.

I have a field question and you seem to know how to work around non ideal fields. My field is shaped like your hand. I'm working it right now cross ways so from thumb to pinky. At the fat part the field is 1400 feet. From the heel to fingertipes is 1500 feet. Across the fingers it gets tedious with 450 turnarounds. I'm thinking to work the filed up and down the length of the hand so my shortest rows would be 1400 feet, this would mean an east west field instead of north south. I don't see any drainage issues, about 2%. So this year I ripped it inline with the rows, then done a 45 degree cultivation. Next would be a cultivation pass in the new row direction. Let me know what you think. Thanks for making excellent videos.
@DylanJoyceFarms
@DylanJoyceFarms Жыл бұрын
I’ve always tried to work fields so that I have the maximum number of long rows possible. If you notice in this field it is L shaped. Next year I plant to have one set of rows running North-South and one set running East-West. The way our farms are cut up in West TN we’ve always just had to plant them in a way that our equipment can efficiently work them with the exception of fields that we need to plant a certain direction for drainage issues.

Could you try to adjust that disc so it tills the ground evenly or is that too much work
@DylanJoyceFarms
@DylanJoyceFarms Жыл бұрын
The disc is set for normal field operations but in the newly cleared ground it doesn’t hardly have enough weight. We have a tool that we can use to finish leveling it up in the spring.

Excuse the stupid question but how does the government know that you aren’t farming CRP land? Do they audit it periodically?

@DylanJoyceFarms
@DylanJoyceFarms Жыл бұрын
4640s were always more popular around here. Almost everybody around here avoids the 4840s because of the 8-speed power shift transmission. Our 4650 has an engine out of a 9950 cotton picker in it. It has a P-pump like a 4850 and is set at 200 HP.

Why would you pay rent on 44 acres if there were only 38 tillable?
@DylanJoyceFarms
@DylanJoyceFarms Жыл бұрын
Paying off the FSA acres. It just makes the rent per acre a little higher on the tillable ground but not dramatically. It’s the way the landlord wanted and it works out fine for us so that’s the way we leave it.
