Sinner Saved By Grace was written in Munich during the Munich hostage crisis in 1976. The first verse and chorus were written by the husband of my grand-aunt. Karl Eckman was the second in command of the East German secret police and had been a Nazi concentration camp commandant during World War II. He and Aunt Katrina were executed for giving my husband Ivan Castanza and I refuge during the hostage crisis. Ivan wrote the second verse after winning a gold medal in the men's 400 meter butterfly. This song was originally written in foreign language. The first verse and chorus were written in Austrian and the second verse in standard German. It was translated by my mother.
