Making home made hot cross buns - our straightforward method just in time for the Easter weekend

Hot Cross Buns are definitely a family favourite. There are so many different variations out there including extra spicy, no fruit, chocolate chips, double chocolate, extra citrus and so many more. We decided to do a straightforward base recipe that we enjoy and can be modified to your own taste
Ingredients
1 1/2 cup milk (lukewarm)
5 tbs brown sugar
3 tsp yeast
4 1/2 cup flour, sieved
1/2 tsp crushed clove
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp salt
grating of nutmeg
2 tsp ground allspice
1/2 cup sultanas and 1/2 cup fruit cake mix
1 large egg
50g unsalted butter
For the crosses
1/2 cup flour
1 tsp oil
water to make a thick paste
For glaze
1/4 cup water
3 tbs white sugar
Serve hot, buttered or with jam and cheese
