Good morning aunt. Thank you for your lovely recipes. Please can you advise why my dhall roti is not cooking in the center. I am toasting the roti on a thawa over a gas stove
@GaithreeDeviLuckan Жыл бұрын
It could be a heat distribution issue with the thawa - use your spatula to press the center down and make it brown. It could also be that the rotis are not evenly thin - try to roll it as thin as you can and as evenly as you can.

I have got used to using my hand. I think you must start with about 2 tbs for the first one and roll it out. If the roti busts then it’s too much and you can adjust to a lower amount.

Lovely dhal roti.. My only question is if we place hot roti on lunch wrap will the paper not get wet from the steam of the roti?

Hi, it normally doesn't steam up. Maybe because the container remains open for the duration of making the rotis.

We call it Dahl puri in my country of Guyana, SA. Traditionaly we make it this way, but the only difference is adding baking powder to the flour before mixing it with the warm water. I always have issues with averaging of the baking powder when making large amounts. This looks good without baking powder. I will try this way.
@GaithreeDeviLuckan3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think I refer to it as dhal puri at some points in the video as well. It is how we call it here in South Africa as well!

Can the filling for the roti be done a day before
@GaithreeDeviLuckanАй бұрын
The dhal and garlic can be ground/processed the day before and the braising with the oil and jeera can also be done. Add the spices and the fresh dhania before making the roti.
